• Chapter 1

There was a little girl who walked into the woods alone because she had an alcholic mother who abused her. She ran away from home because of her problems and felt she would be better off alone.

This girls name was Gold-E-Locks. She didn't prepare for the runaway trip so all she had were the clothes on her back. Her dress was gold and made her hair match. Her skin was porcelain which contrasted the darkness around her.

She didn't know where she was going, she just wanted to walk to get away from the troubles of her life but the dark woods were eerie and she started to feel nervous until she came upon a log cabin out in the middle of nowhere. The log cabin was as big as a small house, the ones you see in little kids stories. Gold-E-Locks was an only child since her father abandoned her mother the day after her fifth birthday. She guessed she was like him now, running away from her family. She remembered his face but nothing more, not what he did or how he smiled. Just his always blank expression on his face. That's the way she always remembered him.

She walked up to the cabin window, there were two on either side of the door, and looked inside. She wasn't surprised by what she found, this place was really nowhereland. Why would somebody build something like this way out here?

The log cabin was empty, empty of everything except for the wooden floorboards which was carpeted by dust. She looked around but out of common sense, knew nobody would tell her anything if she just walked in. So, she did.

    Chapter 2

When she opened the door, it groaned like her Uncle Ricky when he tried to go to sleep. A loud, ungodly groan resonated from this door and made her jump. Immediately she felt silly about this since the door wasn't going to come off its hinges and attack her. She sighed and walked briskly inside.

She hated to say it but the cabin looked even more dreary than the woods outside. But she still felt relieved for finding this cabin sine night was coming and she certainly wasn't going to sleep on the forest floor and get her dress all dirty. Although sleeping on this cabin floor would get it dirty all the same which made her sigh. The dust of the floor kept making her sneeze too. She decided this place would be hard to go to sleep in because of the dust and how cold it was in there. Also, there were cobwebs that hung all over the place and on the inside of the chimney to left of the door. This place, Gold-E-Locks assumed, had not has occupants since the turn of the last century since log cabins were "in".

Gold-E-Locks laid on the hard, wooden floor and waited for sleep since her long walk in the woods had tired her out. She was surprised to find later on that she had fallen asleep so easliy on dusty, hard floor.

That's when they came. The family had come from the shadows of the trees slowly to check if the coast was clear. It was a family of bears! When they stood on their four legs next to each other, you could tell who were the parents and the offspring. The biggest of them all (which must have been the Father) had a meancing look about him as if, at any moment, would destroy anything that came in his or his families way.

    Chapter 3

You can call the Father the, "Protector" of the family. Next was Mother who gathered the good. The father would stick by her anywhere she went because her nose tracked all sorts of food and her nose never lied.

Last, but not least, came the littlest family member, the Cub. He was a playful sort who always wanted to go on an adventure. Much to the dislike of Fathers opinion on, "adventures," Cub wanted so much to see what else was beyond these horizon-filled trees he's only known ever since he could open his eyes. Ever since he could remember, too, his father kept telling him to never seperate from his family. The Cub didn't know why his father kept telling him this and he didn't dare ask. So, he kept those words in his heart and in his brain until he would need them.

Anyways, this family had come upon this cabin, not accidentally, but were following a sweet scent that Mother had smelled on the side of a road just a week ago. The smell was so appealing; nothing in Mother's whole life could compare it to anything that she had smelled or eaten before. This was a one of a kind food that just had to be tasted.

Hastily, with Father leading, they walked around the cabin to the only entrance. By the looks of it, no one has been here for quite awhile, is Mother's nose working today? Suddenly, Father nudges the door open with the top of his nose and a loud groan came from the hinges.

A loud noise awakened her from her peaceful sleep. She had dreamt of all sorts of gorgeous things such as rainbows and flying ponies. Angry that the door would open at the best time of her wonderful dream, she stood up (rather quicklly) and turned towards the door.

    Chapter 4

For a little girl, what she saw was an awful sight. Her only way out of this cabin was blocked by three different sized bears. She couldn't do anything for fear of them attacking her made her freeze like a statue. Little drops of sweat began to trickle down her forehead and plop onto the floor.

And then something strange happened, the biggest bear looked at Gold-E-Locks and then looked at the middle-sized bear to the right of him. The biggest bear grunted to the other bear and the middle gave, what looked like, a nod. Then, the biggest bear, suddenly stepped forward and with each of four of it's humongous paws, it made the floorboards of te cabin creak and squeal.

It was coming towards her, slowly but steadily with it's eyes focused intently on her own eyes. She stood completely frozen as the distance between her and the door had diminished and what seemed like a very large bear was sniffing around her waist.

The bear nudged at her right pocket, but... this was the pocket she kept the chocolate bar in. "So that's what this is about, a little piece of chocolate!" she exclaimed joyfully. Gold-E-Locks reached slowly in her dress pocket and brought out a Baby Ruth bar. As she did with the dress pocket, she slowly unwrapped the bar until there was no more but a single bar of chocolate lying on the palm of her hand.

"I was actually saving this snack just in case I got a little hungry out here... go on, take it." The bear was hesitant at first but then took it inside his mouth and expertly bit off a small chunk for himself and then took the rest of it to the other two bears, who were still standing at the entrance of the door.

    Chapter 5

They each bit a chunk for themselves too and chewed.

Gold-E-Locks breathed a sigh of relief. Finally she would be able to get out of here, but then, things took a turn for the worst. The largest bear turned around from the others and looked back at Gold-E-Locks and, without hesitation, went back up to her and nudged her right dress pocket. "What do you want? I don't have anymore chocolate," she said. The bear was getting more and more impatient by the second. "What do you want Mr. Bear?!, she exclaimed as loud as her voice could go, "I don't have anymore chocolate, don't you understand me, no more chocolate!"

That's when the bear had enough and suddenly it got up on its two hind legs making it really, really huge. It towered over Gold-E-Locks and she suddenly fainted, dropped to the floor like a sack of potatoes. Before she fainted though, she heard somebody scream. She only found out later, that it was actually her that was screaming.

Nearby, a hunter heard Gold-E-Locks scream and quickly dashed for his trusty gun. The gun was actually made to hunt mountain lions but since he wasn't a sport to kill them since they lived in the mountains (hence the animals name) but hunted wild deer who grazed in some of the open spots of grass. As he raced through the branches of trees and jumped boulders, his unkempt beard would itch him but he knew not to scratch for fear of tripping over a rock and critically bruising himself.

    Chapter 6

Actually, the whole hunter himself seemed dirty and unkempt because he hadn't take a shower in three days.

When Gold-E-Locks' screams diminished, he ran even faster for fear he would be too late. Then, as he came to the break of the woods, he braced himself for whatever he may face.

What he saw when came out of the woods surprised him because you don't usually see a family of bears in these woods and then he noticed the big figure of one of the bears hovered over something lying on the floor. The bright gold caught his eye and, from where he was standing, could make out the outlines of a girls face.

The hunter then took his gun and aimed at the standing bear. "Sorry," he said and fired two shots. The big bear went down beside the girl but then the middle-sized bear looked at the hunter and became furious.

The bear charged the hunter and, as it did, the ground shook. The hunter stood his ground and replaced the bullets in his gun. The angry bear was almost upon him but he pulled the trigger and the bear suddenly went down and gave a whimper. The hunter walked by the bear and suddenly focused his eyes on the remaining bear. He picked up his gun and aimed at the helpless bear who stood confused at the entrance of the door. As his finger hovered over the trigger, the girl screamed, "No!"

    Chapter 7

The hunter looked up from the bear to see the little girl run to him. "Please! Don't!" She had started to cry. The hunter then looked from the bear to the girl and put the gun down. The girl kept crying as the bear went to its mothers body and nudged and nudged her to get up. But it was to no use, the bears body did not move.

The Cub then looked to the hunter and the girl and trotted off into the woods.

The hunter looked back from the cub to the little girl and said, "What's your name?" The girl sniffled and cleared her eyes before she said, "Gold-E-Locks." She looked up and gasped because it was her father, the same one that left, that was looking back at her. Except this time, he didn't have that blank expression, he was actually smiling.

She suddenly hugged him and he hugged her back. After all these years, Gold-E-Locks thought, we're finally a family again. But then she remembered the family of bears and felt sorry for the cub who would have to fend for himself in this harsh, cruel world.
