• I slided my fingers across the ivory keys, making a lovely weaveing tune.
The maid, servant and my dog Athena glided through the house humming to my music. I was closer to Mildred and Pier better then i knew my own parents. When mom came home she was always pounding on the piano and Dad was either getting drunk, or playing golf with his friends. Mildred and Pier were the best. They tucked me in at night and complimented my piano playing. And Athena, was my loving Husky. She would comfort me as i cried in my room at night, lick my face when i was hurt and best of all she protected me. As i was walking home from school on Friday, Athena came running from around the corner as she always did. I bent down on my knees and stroked her silky fur as the licked my face. As we headed down the block to our apartment on 31st street I smelt the sweet scent of pie. Athena lifted her nose and I whimpered. "What girl? I dont have any money on me." I whispered to her. She nudged at my pocket so I slipped my hand in a found some paper. I pulled it out and there was a not with $40.00 in between. I smiled and read it.

    Maya,
Why dont you stay out and get some fresh air. Here take this money. I heard theres a new bakery on 21st street. You should check it out. I put some more money in the small pocket of your bag to get a cab home. If anything happens call me. I love you and take care.

    Mildred

I smiled and slipped the note back into my pocet. Sctaching Athenas back we skipped to 21st street.
