Monday in homeroom Miss Patterson continued to write on the board. No one cared though, most kids sat there with their heads on the desk waiting for announcements. I was too busy thinking about Mason. Would he ignore me and hang with his friends? Would Piper find a way to break us apart? Would-
My thoughts were cut short by Miss Patterson saying “Oh good you’re here! Class we have a new student today!” I looked up and saw the girl Miss Patterson was talking about. Her short curly blond hair sparkled under the florescent lights and her blue eyes darted nervously around the room. Her left hand covered her right wrist as she held it tightly to her chest. “What’s your name child?” Miss Patterson asked.

“Melody,” She said, her voice filled the room making the boys heads turn to her direction to check her out. Pigs I thought.

“Who would like to show Melody around?” Miss Patterson asked. No one raised their hand. I raised my hand high and confident into the air.

“I will Miss Patterson,” I said and everyone’s head swiveled towards me.

“Thank you Ivy,” Miss Patterson said. I nodded “Why don’t you sit at the empty desk next to Ivy, Melody.” Melody nodded Sitting down beside me her small bag sliding off her shoulder onto the cold unforgiving floor. She let her right arm rest on the desk and I saw what she was trying to hide the scar shaped like and S. The announcements came on and I watched as she covered her right wrist again.
Once announcements were over I took Melody outside and waited till the hallway was almost fully cleared. “It’s tough isn’t it?” I asked.

“What is?” She asked her blue eyes searched mine for an answer.

“The thoughts ramming inside your head unable to control when it happens,” I said looking back.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Melody said turning away.

“Yes you do,” I said rolling up the sleeve to show my right wrist to her, showing her my scar. “Because, I have the same problem.”

I walked to the lunch room with Melody and Tammy; my eyes searched the busy lunchroom looking for bronze hair and green eyes, perfect green eyes. “It’s great to meet another one like us right Ivy?” Tammy said elbowing me.

“Yes it’s really great,” I said smiling at Tammy and Melody. I watched as Melody looked nervously around the huge lunchroom eyeing the back of her right wrist. “Don’t worry,” I said as we walked over to a table. I double checked the table he usually sits at, no sign of him or Brian. “Brian’s not over there either,” I whispered to Tammy as we sat down.

“I know,” She whispered back. “Check out Malibu Barbie.” I looked up and watched Piper as she looked over the lunchroom she stopped and looked at me. She started to whisper to the rest of her group as she continued to stare in my direction.

“I’m going to be right back,” I said to the two of them standing from the table. Melody and Tammy nodded as I walked over to the bathroom.

“Ivy!” I heard someone yell. I turned to see Piper running up behind me.

“Yes Piper” I said as I snuck a quick look down the hall where I saw Mason and Brian walking down.

“Would you like to join the T.J Bullfrogs cheerleading team?” She asked.
