Left, Right, Left, Right, Left, Right. Stop. Turn. Face forward to the screen. Look at it unwavering. No emotion. Listen. Cheer. Stay still until screen turns off. Turn back. Left, Right, Left, Right, Left, Ri-

Achoo!

Freeze and turn. The person beside you sneezed. Everyone is staring now and you get that lump in the bottom of your stomach again. You know what's going to come next. You know they are going to take him away. There is nothing you can do. Nothing anyone can do.

The guards move forward to the man, the man starts to cry.

"Please. Please. No. I'm sorry. It was an accident. Just the flu. Please I promise it won't happen again. I'm getting better. Please."

The guard reaches out to grab him and time seems to slow. The man before you is your best friend. You've known him since childhood. He's the only one you can confide in, the only one you can talk to about your problems. The only one who understands. He looks at you pleadingly. Your heart clenches and suddenly, subconsciously, you turn and punch the guard in the jaw. You then, without thinking, grab his hand and run as quickly as possible away from that area and into a nearby alley. Twisting and turning, you keep running over and over before finally ducking into a house and turning. Your friend is standing there, shocked. He doesn't know what to do, what to make of this. The two of you are bound to be caught, you're sure. You're bound to be sent off far away, and either retrained or killed. It's going to happen. You're sure of it.

Shaking in your boots, you stare at your friend, just taking it all in, when suddenly you feel yourself get pulled forward into a kiss.

"I love you. I love you and I'm sorry. I-I never wanted this to happen, not to you. Just know forever though. I lo-"

He's suddenly cut off as a gunshot goes off and a bullet whizzes through his head, blood spitting out all over you. You catch him as he falls into you and hold him close for a moment, trying to remember that warmth for just a few seconds more before being yanked away and dragged off.

---

Hours later you awake in a dark room, a calming voice speaking over a set of speakers. It's a voice your used to, a voice that you hear in your day to day life. It's your mother. Or, well, the mechanical voice you've been told to call mother. She's the computer model that helps lead your life at home, dresses you, takes care of. Now though, her words are alittle less helpful and more disheartening. To you she repeats your sentence in that soothing voice, a voice that rather than panics you, helps you keep your calm, the calm required in all situations by humans these days.

Over and over she says, " Crime: Stepping out of line on the way to Brother, Disturbing a sentence, Murder. Sentence: Institution in Sans Espoir until properly rehabilitated or until rehabilitation is found impossible."

At the words, you calm. Rehabilitation is not ideal, but it was better than what could have been sentenced and ideally it meant you could go home and back to work sooner, through which you could try to forget. You didn't want to forget your friend, no your lover... but what choice did you have other than this..

Later you are escorted out to a train, handcuffed to a suspicious looking man, who looks back from time to time. And who smiles and smirks unlike anything you've seen for quite some time. He holds no fear of showing emotion, that much is clear. In fact, he seems to almost taunt you with how much emotion he shows. It's something meant to be suppressed you know, especially in public... The man annoys you with his complete disregard for the rules, the laws, and social norms, but you keep your mouth zipped and gaze ahead. You want no trouble.. none at all.

Little do you know how much this man is about to bring you.

*A dystopian future similar to 1984 or PsychoPass.

*You are near constantly being observed in day-to-day life to make sure you are acting in accordance to the laws.

Name: November 2nd Pan
Age: 24
Occupation: Doctor
Appearance: User Image
Personality: Calm under stress. Curious but generally obedient. In the perfect society, he was seen as the ideal subject. Never argued, never too emotional and never involved. But never doing anything that humans need to show, would eventually cause something to snap. At least that's what some psychologists believe. To him, however, perhaps that theory seems all to true. Because now... now.. What used to be sealed so tightly, emotions that he never dreamed to show in the daylight, are now barely being controlled, under a very thin layer of discipline and control. Even through all of that, he could still stay composed through pressure.
USS: Seme

Name: February 16th Carpo
Age: 25
Occupation: Engineer
Appearance: User Image
Personality: Calm, collected, and cool. For a moment, Carpo could convince you he's just like the rest, but that's just because he's good at acting. Really, he is chock full of emotions. He's very passionate about the things he does and determined to get them accomplished. At times, he can be a bit over-confidant, but never would he let that ruin his plans or let someone get hurt. Never too serious, he knows how to take a joke and has not much of a tendency to yell.

Heavy. Everything felt heavy as Pan was forced into that train. This train. With some stranger. Why? Why did this have to happen this way? What had he really done-.. no, punishment is punishment... but who is this guy? Pan thought he himself had always looked different back home with his white hair. But those freckles... Pan stared for a brief moment at them as if he'd never seen anything like it before. But then he looked away. It didn't matter. This guy could be some freak and he'll end up killing him in his sleep. Those freckles could be the last thing he'll ever see.

Guards forced the two into a corner of an empty train car. Then only one guard remained. There was nothing in there. Nothing but a window and steel walls. Cold, empty. It probably matched Pan's empty eyes. The guard told the two to sit down, and with out looking at his twin parolee, he sat down with out hesitation. His back up against the wall. It too, was cold and made Pan shiver sliding down until his bottom reached the floor.

All well... at least there was window to look out of. But as soon as Pan tried to look up through it, the guard pulled down a thick, opaque blind over it and darkened the entire train car. Wanting to clench his fists, he merely clenched his teeth hard and waited for his eyes to adjust to the dark room. It would take awhile so Pan just closed his eyes and leaned his head back against the cold, steel wall. He heard the guard talking, but it wasn't to them. Maybe someone else through a communicator. There were a few footsteps and then silence. Pan eventually opened one eye to see if his eyes were adjusted yet and he could just barely see the outline of the other prisoner. At least, he just assumed they were prisoners.. what else could they be now. He let a quiet sigh. Why was all this happening? Why wasn't he killed along with his best friend? He breathed in through his nose and exhaled tiredly and closed the eye.

...That red hair was pretty, though...

Humming some, the redhead smiled, moving his steps in accordance to the beat and tune rather than to the Left, Right, Left, Right that the guards had tried to demand of him. The tune was foreign, something odd that neither the guards nor Pan would recognize. And that, that seemed to bother one of their guides, as he'd been sure to 'accidentally' ram the end of his baton into his gut during their movement as a sort of punishment. To this, the redhead had stopped for a moment in both his steps and song, giving a pained noise in response. Almost as soon as he recovered though, he resumed with that humming, just a bit louder than before.

Chuckling a bit as they shoved him roughly into the room, he merely did as he was told and sat on the ground. He then proceeded to scan the room for a moment before frowning. He'd been hoping for a more public room on the train, one of the ones with more people, but it seemed he was out of luck this time around. He'd need to think of a new plan. And fast.

Biting his lip lightly, the redhead crinkled his nose and turned to look at the man next to him. On his uniform, he read the name Pan. With that piece of information, he looked at his face. Age 24. Birth month November. The month that year had been reserved for the birth of future doctors. It had been rather unfruitful, so Pan must of been one of the lucky survivors. The thought made him smile a bit more as he pieced the information together. His gaze then fell to the guard, he seemed to distracted to pay him any mind, talking with someone about something pointless and unimportant. He then watched him leave, making it so they were alone in that dark room, a place with no escape and where they'd have to stay put with the knowledge that the guard could be back any moment.

And stay put Carpo did, for the most part. He did fidget a bit with something and his lips too moved as he began to speak. "So, doctor? What'cha in for?"

A spark of irritation surged over his mind. 'What'cha in for?' How incredibly rude overly forward. Pan had a terrible gut feeling that he was really going to hate this guy, even his voice felt annoying. But then, now it would be rude not to reply. But still this stranger doesn't have to know anything about Pan. So he's not obligated to tell him.. is he? A long silent pause fell through before Pan felt comfortable enough to say anything.

"......................I don't feel like talking about it......"

,he spoke quietly. One feature that Pan liked about himself was his voice. It was smooth and refined. Sometimes people would compliment him for it, as odd as that may seem. But now.. it probably just sounded low and sad with a dreary tone. But...wait a second...!-

"................................ h-hey... how did you know I was ..a doctor?"

he asked rather astonished. Suddenly, this other Pan slightly shown through. Curiosity was suddenly getting the better of him as he glanced at the other's green eyes.

.... His eyes are pretty too...

Wasn't going to talk about it? Figured he'd be in a stick in the mud, he always seemed to have that luck when he ended up in these sorts of positions. Someone else he knew ended up with someone he'd find interesting and he was always left with that boring sap, that hung their head and seemed to grieve for their misdoings. Ugh. This was going to be a long trip if the man decided to merely give uninformative information to him each time he asked him something.

He sat in silence for a few moments as he tried to think of something else to ask, just for the other to ask him a question that made him grin. "Well, it's obvious I think, but I won't tell you why I think it's obvious unless you answer my question," he said, a playful smirk becoming visible on his face as turned a bit more towards the light. "I'll even give you another question if you answer." He had decided to be a bit more giving with this one, in hopes that he could keep this man's curiosity for just a bit longer.

Obvious? how is it obvious? Oh now this man has him by the ropes. He didn't want the other question, but something about this man. Pan was rarely pulled in by anything! Not even his late friend could do something like this. Usually he would tell him his problem because that's what friends did. They listened to each other. But this man... this total stranger is practically pulling the answers out of Pan. And not because he wanted to tell him, just out of sheer curiosity! He slumped and blinked a bit in the dark room. Sighing he brought his knees into his chest and laid his head on them and wrapped his arms around his legs, intertwining each finger. His magenta glanced passed his white bangs and into the man's green iris's. Those words his computerized mother said.. those words repeated...' Crime: Stepping out of line on the way to Brother, Disturbing a sentence, Murder'.. and echoed over and over. Until finally,

" Crime: Stepping out of line on the way to Brother, Disturbing a sentence, M.......-tch.."

, the last one was harder to choke out, so he didn't say because he couldn't and it wasn't true. He looked at the handcuffs on their wrists.

".........................you?" he asked quietly.

The redhead's grin widened all the more as the man finally uttered the answer he'd been hoping he'd give. Carpo was excited to hear that not only would he answer his question, but that he too would play his game of question asking. Maybe he wouldn't have to be so bored and miserable while he waited, after all.

Watching him closely, he, too, proceeded to pull his knees close to his chest, deciding from the other's stance than it looked more comfortable than his current position, warmer too. Wrapping his arms loosely about his legs, he set his chin on his knees, keeping green orbs aligned on him all the while as he spoke. Thinking on the other's hesitation to continue with the last word, he thought to ask on it, but instead moved to answer the one word question directed towards him.

"I lit some files on fire, so that I could help to erase a friend of mine from the system," he said simply, the vagueness and oddness of his supposed actions adding a bit of mystery to it. "Did you have any friends? Before you were imprisoned, that is."

The way this guy was so nonchalant. It was astonishing. Here they were about to be shipped to rehab, and he was talking and asking questions like a new kid in school trying to make new friends.

... friends.

That hit a bit hard for Pan. Especially when the stranger asked him about his friends. But, there would be no sign of crying. No tears. Just another sigh. The other looked cold. Pan wasn't necessarily cold so he took off his green scarf and handed it to the other, gesturing for him to take it if he was cold. Then, an ever so quiet,
" I did....." escaped his lips and he brushed some white hair out of his face. He then gave a bit of an empty stare to the other in curiosity.

"Why do you want to know...?" he asked blankly in case the other was going to ask about what happened to his 'friends'. His eyes glanced over to the name on his prison mate.

..........Carpo..huh?

Blinking a bit as the other handed his scarf out to him, he stared at it for a moment, not sure whether to accept the kindness that was the offer or let the man keep it. Green eyes the strayed up from the scarf to the man before looking back down and taking the scarf. "Thanks," he said with a smile as he wrapped the piece of green cloth around his neck. The warmth of it felt nice and hinted at a much better circulation flow on the part of the other. Looking at him, he had a moment's temptation to grab the other's hand to test his hypothesis, but instead just flexed his fingers in thought before setting his hand flat on own pants,

As Pan answered him, green eyes flicked over to the door, the young man hearing noise on the other side of it. He then proceeded to shift his eyes back to Pan, a new sort of nervousness reflected within them. "I was just curious is all, don't know many people nowadays that do," he said with a smile to mask his worry," It's a great judge of character really. Let's you know who is worthy of your trust."

As he spoke, he continued listening to the events unfolding on the other side, events he was supposed to be a part of, but wasn't. Their door was supposed to have opened by now, or did Dex not realize that he was in this compartment? The thought made him feel a bit uneasy. After all, if that door wasn't opened, they'd be trapped in here. Not him, nor the man he'd decided to bring with him beside him would be able to get out. They'd be stuck straight on a path to Sans Espoir.

At first, noises sounded more just like the train clicking and clacking down the railroad. They weren't noticeable to Pan. When Carpo answered, the other began to think again. Why would he ask that? Pan only had that one friend his whole life up until now. Wasn't it normal to have friends?... Yes.. it was normal to have friends but Pan only had one. Just one... and now he was truly alone...

"...heh... you really think you could trust a total stranger?.. How do you know that I trust you?"

He glanced over at Carpo again, who seemed to be a bit fidgety when he answered. Maybe the nervousness didn't clearly show but, being a doctor, Pan could see some of the sure signs of worry. Maybe their situation finally began to sink in for him. Pan looked around the room, his eyes wandering to see if there was any sort of escape... or at least some way to look outside. Pan always wondered what the outside looked like. Not the outside halls, but real outside. Pan had only seen things in books and dreams. Dreaming... would they even be allowed to dream at Sans Espoir?.... would they? Pan thought he probably couldn't live if he wasn't allowed to dream anymore.

Those thoughts ran passed his mind until the same question blinked again to him. His eyes furrowed a bit and his lips pursed slightly.

"h-hey... you still didn't answer my question. How did you know I was a doctor? Have we met somewhere befor-!"

A loud noise came from somewhere not in their car and caused Pan to jolt his head up. What was that?! Focused, Pan stared at the compartment door that the guard walked out of earlier. He looked back at Carpo as his curiosity was getting the better of him again. Pan wanted to find out what it was, but he was unsure if it was safe or not. And if there was trouble, he didn't want to force Carpo to follow, since they were still handcuffed together.

"What do you think is going on?" he asked much more quietly than before.

"I could.. to an extent," Carpo said as he continued looking in the direction of the door, biting on his lip just a tad as he continued to listen. From what he could hear the guards were out of there, locked out electronically after having been pulled away by a distraction in another compartment. That meant there were ten minutes left. Ten minutes to escape and here he was, trapped in a room with a bulletproof window. "And I don't know that you trust me. You probably don't and that's fine, but you trust me enough to lend me your scarf, which means you do to a certain degree or that you are just kind enough to push away your concern that I might not return it."

Listening closer, he kept his gaze glued to the bottom of that door as if the shadows that snuck beneath would share what he knew was going on. Carpo jumped as he faintly heard the glass windows break in the next room over At this, a hand moved to the scarf he wore, the ends of which he began playing with.

For the most part he ignored the man's next question about his knowledge and only reacted to the loud noise nearby, which made him jump just a tad. It had been a gunshot, he was pretty sure, but there was no retaliation, hinting that noone had actually been shot, but more likely that they'd shot at one of his friends. One of the ones who had jumped down to the lake below, the one that surrounded Sans Espoir and been their plan of escape. He worried about their safety so, but more about his own. After all, if they had figured out what was going on quickly enough, they'd see his name, too, had been electronically removed from the list, along with those who had escaped.

"Someone was escaping and proved to be successful," he said simply, thinking it best to perhaps not disappoint him with thoughts of what could have been. At these words, green eyes finally strayed from the door and back to Pan, his fake smile back on his lips. "I knew it from your name by the way. The government plans out names like a code..."
