They were once great friends. They were like two atoms put together; you couldn't pull them apart. They were so close, they knew each other so well, they knew how to make each other happy. They had grown up in a small little town in the middle of nowhere, spending their days in the neighbouring forests and lakes. It seemed like it would never end, but little did Aniyah know, it would. [Your Character] has always thought about leaving town, to explore what was out there. He had mentioned it to Aniyah a couple of times, and she had told him he was crazy. He supposed he was, since one rainy night, he up and left, without a trace. With no goodbyes, no warning. Gone. At first, Aniyah was in a panic. She had thought that he was kidnapped, murdered, all that could possibly go wrong. Though the more she thought about it, the more she began to realize he had gone on his own accord. Her fear and worry would soon turn into anger, and almost hate. How he could leave? How could he not tell her?!
She felt like her heart had been torn from her chest.
That was their senior year of highschool. Now it has been a few years and [Your Character] has decided to come back. Will Aniyah still be angered, or will she be forgiving and simply glad that he came home.

She prefers to be on her own, and tends to keep to herself. It takes a lot for Aniyah to show her true feelings, as she doesn't to speak about them in fear that she would come off as annoying or a bother. This is due to past relationships where individuals would constantly dismiss her feelings, saying they don't matter, or that she's was being a crybaby.
However, Aniyah can be pretty cheerful around people she knows well. Once someone is close to her she can be seen as kind, caring, and a joy to have around. She likes to joke around with friends, and enjoys their company, however, due to her unstable mindset she often fears they might get tired of her some day.
When in a romantic relationship, she becomes timid all over again, blushing at every touch and every kiss her significant other makes. Finally a day off for once! Aniyah let out a sigh as she took in the air, looking around their small town. She had originally planned to have lunch with her boyfriend, but that wasn't until later in the day, since HE had work, so she thought she'd just relax for the day until she had to meet up with him. Shutting the door to her home, she made sure it was locked before adjusting her bag on her shoulder, then began to walk off in no particular direction. She wandered around town, going around and saying hello to people she crossed. Almost everyone was still around after high school, expect a select few that had gone off to college elsewhere or they left for other reasons; and that included Hayden.
She had honestly tried to forget about him after he had 'gone missing' that night, but it always seemed to stick in her mind like a parasite. Of course, she missed him; there wasn't a day that went by where she didn't, but she was always just being dragged from the stress and emotion that came with thinking about him. So, she just tried not to stress herself; she didn't want to have to go to the psychologist more than she already did, mainly because she didn't want to worry her boyfriend.
After some time of walking, she made her way over to her work, to see how business was doing that day. Of course, it was slow as usual, with most of the patrons being from out of town, passing through to go to some big city a while away. She ordered a drink, and once it was ready, she sat outside to take in some sun. She sat down and took a sip of the cold liquid, scrolling through her phone aimlessly while she did.

Aniyah glanced up from her phone when she heard the sounds of the bus pass by, dropping off a couple of passengers. It wasn't often that people actually got off that bus in their town; it was rare, and even when people got off that thing, they usually didn't stay long. Then again, no one, in general, stayed long besides the locals, and even then, quite a few leave. She hummed lowly in curiosity, wondering who possibly got off. She couldn't see from the distance, but she could only assume they were tourists. A buzz from her cell pulled her away from her thoughts, and she quickly looked down to see what it was. On the screen was a sweet little nickname with hearts surrounding it, showing that her boyfriend had texted her. Her face suddenly brightened, and she unlocked the screen, only for the brightness to fade once she read what was on screen.
Her boyfriend had said he had to be at work longer than he needed to, and he couldn't make it to lunch. This wasn't the first time he made that excuse, and she was starting to wonder how true that actually was. After all, they lived in a small town in the middle of nowhere, the closest big city being at least an hour away. How could he possibly be busy? With a sigh, she responded okay and asked if she should just bring lunch, to which he replied no, and that she should just enjoy her day off without her. She shrugged, tossing her phone onto the table before taking another sip of her drink. She was a bit bitter about it, but she supposed she could make the most of her day somehow...

Aniyah huffed, scrolling through her phone. She was trying to think of ways to occupy her time since her boyfriend was 'way too busy' to spend time with her. She would look up again when she heard a flurry of people begin to whisper around her. That instantly spiked her anxiety since she was never comfortable hearing whispers in the first place. She quickly noticed that they weren't even looking her way. She followed the gaze of a couple of girls that were nearby that went to the same high school, and noticed someone sitting a little bit away. She looked at him, confused, and she tried into listen to their conversation to understand what was going on, and once she heard his name, she froze. No...it couldn't be. She could feel her throat go dry, and her stomach turn. The more she looked at him, the more she began to realize that it truly was him. After these years...She could feel a lump in her throat.
She felt frozen; she didn't know what to do. What does she do in a situation like this? Even with these questions, she found herself slowly getting up and walking over. She could feel her fists clench, and she could hear the girls stop as they noticed that she was moving. When she reached his table, she stopped, obviously tense. She looked different than how she did since he last saw her. She had cut her hair a considerable amount, and it was now lighter than it used to be.
She lingered for a moment, trying to shake away the web of words in her throat. She didn't know what to think; her mind was fuzzy.

Aniyah stood there frozen for a moment, trying to piece together what he could possibly be there for. 'Passing Through' he says. She stared at him hard, watching him as he stood, preparing to leave. Within her eyes was a sense of hurt, which was easily visible with the obvious anger about how he was acting at the moment. Granted, he probably already felt awkward enough from showing his face after disappearing, but she felt awkward too; seeing her childhood friend right in front of her, now acting like a stranger. She watched as he began to leave, and in a fit of frustration, she started to follow, calling out to him after.
"'P-Passing through'!? That's all you have to say, Hayden? No, 'Hey sorry I disappeared,' or an explanation?! You have me worried after you disappear, just to show up like this!?"
The painful tone was dripping into her voice, and she sounded like she was about to cry. And honestly, she was. This was probably the worst thing that could happen. Of course, there was part of her that was happy and relieved that he was at least alive, but that didn't excuse how frustrated she was.

She didn't follow him after that. All she could do was stand in silence. Her fists opened and closed as she tried to rid herself of the feeling she had. Well, the multitude of feelings. She was angry; she was upset; so much for having a good day off. Walking back to her table she quickly grabbed her things before storming off, heading towards one of the dirt paths that lead off towards the forest. Just like how she used to do in high school when she was upset. She'd always head off into the forests by herself, and usually stay out there for an insane amount of time; to the point where her dad had sent out their large Russian Bear dog Stella out to look for her.
Aniyah walked for a good distance until she found herself by a cliff that dipped down to a deeper part of the forest. She threw her stuff down before sitting close to the edge, pulling her knees to her chest. Her mind was still frenzied with static, numbing any coherent thoughts. Tears were beginning to p***k her eyes now, and she wasn't bothered to push them back. That feeling she was feeling when he first left was back now; that feeling of abandonment. She had thought that he left because of her, that he wanted to get away from her. And for some reason him coming back, brought it back. A sense of anxiety began to turn her stomach more, and she clutched onto it as if that would help it go away.

Aniyah would spend countless hours out where she was, just hugging her knees and thinking. Of course, word would start getting around, since their town was so small, and people would start to question where Aniyah was. There wasn't any panic, they had a general idea, but they were just wondering if she was out in the forest, or in her home, and they wondered what got her upset this time. Though people who knew that Hayden was around had a very general idea, considering how Aniyah reacted when he initially left. No one decided to bother her in person, but when her boyfriend overheard the chatter, he gave her a quick text.
Her boyfriend went to the same high school and was actually one of the more popular kids on campus. He never really paid much attention to Aniyah, but he had always found her kind of cute. After high school, he was surprised she was still around, as he thought she had left, so he decided to ask her out. Since then, they've been in a relationship, and it was going on a year now. It wasn't perfect, but they worked through it.
Aniyah felt her phone vibrate, and she pulled her cell out of her cardigan's pocket to check it. She stared at the text for some time, then with a sigh got up and dusted herself off. He had asked her to come back, so they could just talk it through and relax, which she was dying for at the moment. That's all she wanted to do in the first place. She began to walk through the forest and back towards town, tucking some loose strands of hair behind her ear.

Aniyah happened to catch a glimpse of Hayden as she was heading back towards town. She was tempted to confront him again, but she had a feeling she just couldn't. Her face was reddened and covered in tears from her recent crying, and she felt she was in no condition to confront him again; at least not right now. She sighed and waited a moment before continuing to walk again.
She reached her house after a good while of walking, and noticed her boyfriend was already standing by her door and waiting for her. He noticed her and instantly straightened up, preparing to head over to her and give her a hug. She shook her head and declined the hug while she went to unlock the door. He remembered seeing how close Aniyah and Hayden were in high school, so close...He frowned as he watched her unlock the door, a sad expression on her face. He tried to look into her eyes, but he couldn't get a catch on her gaze.
"It's got you that upset, huh?"
"He didn't even apologize. He didn't tell me he was coming back...What the hell did I even do?"
"Aniyah, I've told you this once already, and I'll say this again, it probably wasn't your fault. Look at me."
She picked up her head, and finally turned to look at him. He gave her a smile and straightened up before giving her a hug, kissing the top of her head.
"I'm sure there's a very good reason why he did what he did, I'm sure he'll come around eventually."
Aniyah let out a sigh, then nodded, before slowly wrapping her arms around him. He patted her back then let her go, and they both headed inside.
