These cubs are the children of Queen Kimondo, sired by the God of Rogues, Al-Hattal. Their mother was not born to rule but she is of royal blood. She's actually one of a handful of lions who are a part of most of the major families within the pride!

Though they were not fathered by a King, Kimondo refuses to view her cubs as illegitimate. She was prepared to name an heir among them, regardless of what the pride might say, but most unfortunately, they were born on a night with no moon.

They may be princes and a princess, but they will live their lives as slaves.

---

About the Family

Kimondo (Ecavi) - A reliable and optimistic lioness, she will nevertheless struggle to accept the fate that has been assigned to her cubs. She is agnostic, leaning more towards theism due to the important role it plays in the pride. She may discuss this with her cubs in the future, should they ask questions, with the understanding that they don't go around telling everybody the Queen isn't actually sure about the Great Lion.

Haiba (Ecavi) - The oldest cub in the litter, takes being a prince and big brother a little too seriously.

Maalum (Safaia) - Second oldest cub.

Matumaini (mouselet) - Middle child!

---

Extended Family

Vesper & Ota (Ecavi) - Kimondo's parents. Vesper is a son of Princess Aapep, one of Queen Alcmene's daughters. He was a guard before he married Ota and now he is quite happy as a hunter. Ota is a Hunt Leader from a smaller old blood family, she was one of the two seers working behind the scenes during the rebellion against Shangyue and is much happier now that it's all behind them.

Hodari (belloblossom) - Kimondo's only sister (and favorite sibling, shhh). She is likely to be a happy influence in the cubs' lives and is the poor soul who almost got out of being second in line for the throne.. until the cubs were born two weeks too late/early. She has grown cubs of her own.

Kimondo has three brothers, and a large amount of family on both sides.

You will want to review the Lineage Tracking thread if you win a cub.

Al-Hattal got four Mwezi lionesses pregnant around the same time sooo.. they have more than a few half-sibs wandering around in the pride. They all look way more like Al-Ha, though. xD

---

About Being Seers

Grandma Ota's father was Faine, the God of Guilt. She is a seer with some control but, more importantly, significant understanding of her abilities. She is the reason Kimondo knows that her cubs will be seers, and she is more than prepared to help out if they run into any trouble.

The cubs will not be told their father was a God until they are old enough to keep it to themselves. It is one of those things you just don't talk about in the Mwezi'Johari. Their official stance on the Gods we all know is that they are lesser deities and while it is wise to treat them with some respect, they are not the same as the Great Lion.

As a family, though, they're pretty relaxed about it. In private, Ota doesn't hide that her father was a god and Kimondo won't hide that her cubs were sired by one either.

Liuhe is Kimondo's best friend, and he is married to Hivyo. By chance, the two families have had cubs very close together! Liuhe & Hivyo's cubs were born about a week after Kimondo's cubs, and they are likely to spend a decent amount of time together simply because their parents are close. Ucheshi (Excited Apathy), Nadra (Ecavi) & Asani (Epine de Rose) are in the Middle Class.

Liuhe and Hivyo are both Lords but they plan to change that, while their cubs are learning to hunt, they will learn to hunt! And since Kimondo misses hunting so much, it is the Queen herself who will be teaching everybody. Her cubs, her friends, and her friends' cubs. All at once!

Entering for Cubs

  • All names should be one word in Swahili or Zulu with happy meanings.
  • Unfortunately, none would be named after relatives or past kings.

  • All cubs must stay in the pride until adolescence. Traditionally, they would not be allowed to leave since they are slaves but Kimondo does not believe in strictly enforcing this. They will be encouraged to stay but they do not have to.

  • While they will always technically be Princes/Princess, that will only be their official title while they are cubs. When they are adolescent and adult, they will be Slaves.

  • You may enter for all three but you will only win one!

Cub #1

This cub was born fourth.
He is a throwback to Aureole, his great-great-grandmother.
Well, and Unyezi, his great-great-grandfather.
In a varied but pale litter, he probably stands out the most!

Give him a name!
Using only three words, describe his personality.

Entry for Cub #1

Name: Baadaye
Meaning: "future" in Swahili

Personality:
1.] Airy
2.] Magnanimous
3.] Simple

Entry for Cub #2

Name: Safi
Meaning: "Pure" in Swahili

About: Safi was born on the moonless night with gray eyes that would see nothing. Despite their blindness, Safi's seer ability gives her the power to 'see'. Feelings to not step a certain way where a cliff lays or to lift her paw higher to avoid a root. Feelings of moods from others washing over her, though emotions mix together when there are more than one other near her. Feelings of where her feet are taking her when she sets her mind on a destination. Her ability benefits no one than her and only in the sense of giving her a replacement for her sight. A price, she considered it. One of the three prices to pay.

She is born the only female of her mother. It wasn't something she scorned and gnashed her teeth at. She didn't curse the Great Lion for their favoritism towards males in her family. It was to be as it was to be. The same reason she was born blind under a new moon. She did not question her fate, merely lived on.

The last price she had to pay was the irony of her status. She was a princess yet a slave. It confused her, as a cub. How could one be both? But although she was born with royal blood in her veins, she was of the lowest caste and meant to serve the pride. it was to be as it was to be. She would recite that to herself during her hardest times. There weren't many; she wasn't mistreated, she had no misgivings about her life.

Her mother may be agnostic but Safi feared she had proof of the Great Lion's will. She had been born on the new moon, when the Great Lion was asleep and no longer watching their pride. The misfortunes were the result. But the Great Lion took pity on her, as she saw it. Took pity on her and gave her another method of seeing the world. The Great Lion gave her a chance to prove her worthiness towards her pride and the Great Lion.

Entry for Cub #3

Name: Tumaini
Meaning: "Hope" in Swahili

About:

Tumaini doesn't have visions; his seer ability manifests in the auditory subtype. Regardless, the ability isn't too strong. It's a bare whisper majority of the time, speaking in a language he doesn't know but somehow understands. Most of the time, the whisper is barely there and Tumaini misses it completely. There are a rare few times where the whisper turns into a scream, causing him to jump and try to cover his ears, despite not being able to block the noise out. The whispers do not say anything about the past or future, only about the present. And they do not speak in full sentences. More like "Look" or "There" or "Coming". Vague words like that. Rarely are there more specific words like "death" or "birth" or "life" and these words do not point to a specific person.

Tumaini only gets the feeling of understanding sometimes. There are a handful of times he is trying to figure out what the whisper is saying and ends up missing the event he was supposed to observe.

The whispers are nearly always there though they become background noises as Tumaini learns to tune them out. They do quiet down for long periods of time, however. Tumaini is always looking or talking back to the whispers as a cub, though eventually learns to be discreet about it. He hates the gift but once the whispers are quiet for several days, Tumaini is overwhelmed by the sense of loss and loneliness. He was born with the gift, afterall.

Tumaini has no control over the whispers at all. He cannot shut them out or force it to talk. Nor can he pick out the more important events. The whispers will whisper loudly in time for him to witness someone trip or barely call his attention to a thievery. He cannot tell who, what, or where he should be looking. The whispers do not say "yes" or "no". Instead, they continually repeat "look" or "this way" until Tumaini is finally looking or going in the right direction. Even then, sometimes they decide to give up on letting him know which direction and fall quiet.

Entry for Cub #2

Name: Nofoto
Meaning: "Like her grandmother", Zulu

About: As similar as she may look to her mother, Nofoto holds very different beliefs than Kimondo, devoutly believing in the Great Lion and the traditions of her pride that she had been taught. If she and her brothers were destined to be born slaves, then it must be so for the betterment of the Mwezi'Johari. The only personality trait she seems to share with her mother is her optimism, as she believes that her unfortunate time of birth was meant to be a test by the Great Lion himself.

With her optimism comes vanity, confidence, and a bit of naivety; she takes great pride in her appearance, likening her white coat to the stars in winter, and she fully believes that if she had been fortunate enough to be born under the Great Lion's wide eye, she would have shined brighter than all of her brothers. But she is determined to rise up to the challenge presented to her, and has vowed to be the hardest working of all the slaves to earn her star in the sky. After all, what other hope does she have, when her brothers may rise above through marriage when she cannot?

While she has no idea who her father is, she will not react well when learning he was a God later on, viewing it as the reason she was born a lower class than what she feels she deserves.

Entry for Cub #3

Name: Sifiso
Meaning: "Wish", Zulu

About: Sifiso's visions are something of a mixed bag for him. They come fairly regularly, and though he doesn't know the exact time he'll have one, they do fall under a pattern. A pattern, however, that he finds both highly ironic and annoying, and as time goes on and he gains a greater understanding, frustrating beyond reason. His visions are slightly jumbled and chaotic images of faces and events, though with time and analysis he can manage to get a decent understanding of what they're referring to.

The ironic part, however, and the part that upsets him the most, is in the timing of his visions: they happen only around the time of the full moon and the new moon, and those that take place during the full moon tend to be foreboding in nature, foretelling of something negative that is going to occur or that occurred in the past. His visions that fall around the new moon, the time of his own birth, are nearly always about a joyous event or experience.

He's not sure if there's any meaning behind the nature of his visions, particularly with his birth, but it makes him particularly grumpy around both points in time, and are a strong contributor toward him eventually losing faith in the Great Lion. Because really, having pleasant visions on the new moon and terrible ones on the full moon? It feels like the Great Lion is either not as real as most of the pride things, or that he's being punished unfairly by the deity, or even worse - that he's the butt of some joke he wants no part of.

Entry for Cub #2

Name: Wema
Meaning: Virtuous

About: As a cub Wema loves being a princess she things she is destined to follow in her momma's foot steps and wants to be all that she cant be. She is a little confused about who her father is but in he end loves her little family and doesn't give her absent father too much thought. Wema loves being the only girl in the litter, its something that makes her special in her eyes.

When she gets older Wema will struggle to understand that she is actually a slave and holds the lowest rank in the pride. She struggles with the fact that she isn't exactly the princess she always thought that she was. She does have the chance to marry up in ranks though Wema wont do this intentionally. She is a romantic and will look for love in life and if that happens to come with a higher rank she is a-okay with that.

Even though she is a "slave" she holds her head high proud to be who she is. She behaves for the position she believes she should hold not the rank that she actually is. Though she is always careful to follow the rules of the pride as she would hate to get her momma in any trouble.

Entry for Cub #2

Name: Amaris
Meaning: Child of the Moon

About: Being the only girl is rather frustrating. No one else likes to keep as clean as her so her nice white coat is almost always covered in filth. She hasn't thought much about her position as a slave, but it will likely hit her as a young adult. That's when things will get frustrating for her.

Overall she's going to try and live up to the expectations that are expected of her mother and help out as she can. But as she gets older she'll realize her position in the pride makes that a little hard to do.

Entry for Cub #2

Name: Aina
Meaning: Kind (named for the hope that she would be kindly and compassionate, despite the cards life dealt her)

About: Aina tries to live up to her name and to her mother's image as a beautiful queen. However, there are just some days where she can't help, but feel some scorn for this "Great Lion". She will spend a great deal of her time helping the pride, but in her downtime, she'll question the Great Lion on his choices. Were she and her brothers born without him watching over them because their daddy isn't the King? This will trouble her a great deal and it'll only get worse when her mother eventually has legitimate children who will have the life she could never, just because a giant lion in the sky didn't think she was pretty enough to look at.

Well-meaning for the lions and lionesses of the pride, it will be only the religious aspect of the pride she grows to doubt, though with her mother's warnings she won't speak of her doubts to just anyone. She'll be careful with who she trusts with her beliefs, likely just limiting it to family. Note that while she may doubt the spirits in the sky, she'll take care of what she can see in front of her: her family, her friends and her pride.

(Note: While I'd like her to have hefty religious doubts, I'm also interesting in having her eventually pose the question "If Momma's the Queen, can't she just get rid of all slaves and slavery?" Which could pose for some interesting family conflict.)

Entry for Cub #3

Name: Mkali
Meaning: Bright - Swahili (named for his bright coat and his future, which his mother hopes will be bright and happy.)

About: Mkali's visions aren't really... visions at all. He doesn't see anything and he doesn't hear it either. He tastes it. And most alarmingly for him, the only thing he ever tastes is blood. Something that will send him running to a Healer as a cub more often than not, the blood he tastes is not always that of another lion. Sometimes, it's the taste of antelope or zebra, and soon to follow he would receive the announcement that there would be a feast in a few days time. These are the visions he prefers, but feasts are uncommon and deaths... well, deaths are more common.

And so whenever a death occurs, whether they died in their sleep, from a sickness or if they really bled out, he can always taste the blood of another lion. Sometimes, he's also able to catch the scent of the lion or lioness who died floating around his muzzle, which helps him identify who died, though he typically finds out the following day.

These "visions" unnerve him greatly and he'll stick by Grandma Ota's side to see if she can help him figure this out. He doesn't like this power and wishes he didn't have it. As such, he's cross at the notion of his father being a god. It wasn't as though being born a Slave was hard enough, now he's got this weird vision-taste-curse to deal with too!

Entry for Cub #2

Name: Zithembe
Meaning: Zulu for "Trust your self"

About:
Lonely:
Her childhood will be enjoyed but there will be that underline worry that always is with her that one day her brothers will marry out of slavery and she'll be left alone in the world. She will bottle this up until adulthood.

Impostor:
There will be a huge shadow of impostor syndrome she'll carry with her always. Zithembe will never actually feel like she's part of the family as her fast approaching destiny of slavery lingers.

Deep:
Zithembe will be a very thoughtful lioness as she grows. She will never actually see her self above anyone and will be the type of lioness that is easy to approach and relate to.

---------------

Slavery is something she will struggle with her entire child/teen hood but I believe as an adult it is something she will come to accept and even take pride in. She'll see that being a slave is not the worst fate and hopefully learn to trust with in her self.

(( I can work with you if you'd like to make plans for her further too. smile ))

Entry for Cub #3

Name: Kibwe
Meaning: Means "blessed"

About: Kibwe seems to be a Visual seer. It seems to be varying between the past, present, and future, but only is able to see his visions while he is sleeping. Since he is just a cub it seems sometimes the dreams, are nothing more than dreams, I think as Kibwe ages he will have more strength in being able to control his visions. He seems to have his visions currently at random times. Although when the moon is half full it seems to give him a more clear vision.

Since Kibwe is a cub and just dismisses his visions currently as nothing more then odd dreams he has due to the randomness upon which they arrive, and the details that they provide. Eventually, he will be able to understand as he grows older that they are visions in fact, and not merely an altered dream state.

Right now he doesn't seem to feel a certain way other than a little confusion when he has had a dream vision of the future, and the time comes to the present he seems a little confused, as he recalls the events in a past tense when they are currently present tense.

While Kibwe Ages he learns how to better interpret the meanings of his vision, and will become more adept with how he feels about each vision as they come to him.
