THE VALE

Vale is the oldest of all of the seven kingdoms, having been created nearly ten centuries ago. It is also the largest, most secluded of the seven. Those of Vale are not normal physically, or even mentally. They are not human, and have never been. There was an ancient tale told that said they could have even been Gods at one point... but were they? It's possible, but now they are no where near what humans imagined as "Gods", or well.. not the friendly ones. This was said according to many of the nobles who fought in the war, accusing those of Vale to be vile creatures who did not hesitate to kill. Humans were never accepted in this kingdom, the parents of the current King had been convinced they were lower beings who did not deserve to live the luxuries of the demons. The past King and Queen continued to expand their empire, eventually causing great tension between every Kingdom. As the war began and the new King was appointed, things began to slowly change. King Belwen watched as tension grew throughout the provinces, acting only once the war had already started. The war lasted for years, and finally the six contracts were sent out and signed, trading one child from each royal family for peace, Vale promising they would step back and allow each Kingdom to rebuild. These contracts forever allied the kingdoms, at least until one of them acts up.

To be able to enter Vale, each group has to take a boat and enter through the main gates. The kingdom was created deep in the mountains which as the years passed, was exposed to the sea. The river that leads to the main entrance of Vale also leads to the ocean, mixing the pure water with salt water. There are two giant statues carved into the mountains that surround the kingdom, one of the past King Edolas, the other of the current King Belwen. Both statues give off the feeling of power, intimidating many. Moving past the statues is the Vale Harbor, where mostly trade and passage ships are found. The Kingdom is very large, each building crafted from argillite and/or carrara marble. It is obvious that the kingdom is ancient because of the designs, the different statues of the Vale ancestors, almost every corner has its story. Many expect the city to be dark and lifeless, but it is quite the opposite. Even though the empire is asleep during the day, it is still quite beautiful and breath taking. Different kinds of animals are found throughout the kingdom, many that would not be found anywhere else. During the night is when the empire begins to come to life.

At the east end of the city is a giant tree, sacred to the kingdom. It is said that that very tree was the beginning of Vale, a tree that never perishes. The very first palace was created at the base of the tree, the home of the Royal Family. The palace is very big, holding enough rooms to seemingly hold an army. The King and Queen host events quite often, even weddings for any couple of Vale. Here is where the royal guests are being housed, females on the same floor as the Belwen daughters, and males on the same floor as the Belwen sons. The Royal Guests are not permitted to leave this place during the day, but doors are unlocked during the night.

Past the Sacred Tree is a waterfall, an opening of the mountains that allows the water to flow through Vale and return to the river, eventually moving to the open sea. The waters are crystal clear as well as warm, welcoming anyone to jump in.. though it's best to avoid going past the Sacred Tree, as currents are strong and are not very friendly. Below and around the waterfall are hidden homes of the poor of Vale, also known as the slums. Houses are built along trees housing many, inns even created, welcoming all, keeping whoever visits confidential. There are also brothels here and there. Anything that would not be permitted, or considered unacceptable in the city is found here. Illegal goods are also smuggled into the slums to get into the city, not many know about this.

Behind the waterfall continues the slums, though the homes begin to appear more.. ancient, elegant, as if they had been created during the first years of the empire's life. It is as if there is a completely different city underneath the main city, and there is. This is another sacred artifact of Vale, an ancient temple where few, if not all of the Royal Family come to worship their ancestors. Here is where each Belwen was born, in a closed off room. They were born within the lukewarm water of the Ancient Temple. The waters are even warmer, steaming, keeping the temple warm and humid.

Sky Whales are found all over the sky over Vale, entering or leaving the Kingdom to transport goods to different provinces. They are a main source of transportation through the city, even to different kingdoms. They even house some as they are very large, home-y places.
