"Ahhh I see…," Lafayette murmured, reaching a hand up and absently rubbing his chin in thought. Well that certainly explained everything; he had a sneaking suspicion that the taste testing went much farther than Mel suggested, but he didn’t harp on it. "I think so… she seems ta have a thing for it." He remarked with a shrug. He listened thoughtfully as Mel explained (albeit, a little passively) what Brian’s deal probably was. He supposed that was fair; odd but fair. He wasn’t entirely certain if he believed her claim that he’d warm up to him; he seemed more like he’d keep his distance but well she knew better, right? What exactly could he claim to know.
"Sounds rough," he said. "Can’ imagin’ gettin’ scared into a fear." He didn’t scare easily though so maybe that was why it was hard to consider? Then again even if he did, to have it become something so serious it affected you every day? Damn, that was just crazy. He noted the look on Mel’s face, as though she wasn’t comfortable continuing the discussion and gave a curt nod, deciding to drop it for now. Instead he focused on the task of getting fed, stepping into the area, and looking around.
"Yeh wanna find a table firs’ then check the grub, sheila?" He asked, checking about and noting there were several booths and tables open for them to select from. Lafayette of course, was more readily staring out at the tray lines of food, preferring to hit that up as soon as possible. But getting a table… that was important, too right?
Noah gave Lucy a nod as she jumped down to join him, confirming that was who he was talking about. He thought… maybe. Had he heard her name before? Still though, the fact that Lucy pointed it out made him think it was right. He frowned though as Lucy spoke. Phia had always been like that? That was unnerving. "Realleh? She get in blues with yeh other team mates too?" He asked, frowning hard as he thought. "Well tha’ ain’ right! Yeh gotta let’em name yah! Wha’ she ain’ got no respect?"

Mel nodded, looking thoughtful. "You ever let her stay out of her pokeball when that sort of thing starts happening? Y'know, see what she does 'n all?" she asked curiously. She wasn't sure, honestly, whether to be concerned or intrigued about Cheri's.... reaction to sugar. Vibrating was not a normal espurr function, that she was aware of, not that she was exactly an expert on that particular pokemon.
She absently followed along with Lafayette, looking around. "Imagine it's sorta like gettin' pissed off into a trigger," she remarked with a casual shrug, very specifically not looking at him as she said this, and making it as obscure as she could whether she meant anything by that. Because, haha... she kind of did. It seemed like that had happened to Lafayette a bit, with pokemon. Though, maybe that was just a natural part of his nature-- but the degree to which he'd referenced those sharpedos in their argument, made her think they had at least had some effect on him.
She shook her head and waved a dismissive hand at his suggestion. "Hell no, food first," she replied, lengthening her stride and heading for the food, "I don' care where we eat." Plus, there seemed to be plenty of seating. What would be the point of sitting down without food? They didn't need to reserve a spot, and their pokemon might want something to eat, too.
Speaking of, Lucy tilted her head at Noah's slang. "Blues?" She obviously wasn't quite as good at picking up on things as her trainer. She gave another large shrug at the second remark. "I guess she already had a name? Or named herself?" she replied. She looked thoughtfully up at Mel at the mention of respect, though, humming in thought. Phia.... didn't seem much like the 'respect' kind of pokemon. More the 'begrudging obedience' sort....

Lafayette shook his head. "Nah, ‘cause it’s somethin’… jus’ found out ‘bout." He said, giving a shrug. "Onleh seen it one othe’ time, with the cotton candeh she got off the othe’ sheila." He tucked her into her pokeball at that time too. Maybe some time in the future, if he had to patience to test it, he’d leave her out and see what came from her sugar rush campaign. Assuming it didn’t cause massive issues.
He made a bit of a face at the remark, gaze narrowing as he gave her a studious look. He had a bit of a feeling of what she was hinting at but just took a deep breath and focused on the idea of eating. He was still too tired and hungry to go allowing his temper to go penting back up. Focus, focus, focus.
He gave a grin as she agreed on the idea of getting food first. "G’donya sheila! Let’s get to it then!" Lafayette gave her a gentle elbow before immediately heading for the bar to gather himself some food. Nabbing a plate, he slid it along to try and decide on what he wanted. There was a lot of tropical looking options, probably to help fulfill that whole ‘islander’ experience. Really, he didn’t care much for the fruity flavors, but did his best to load his plate with whatever variation of meat and potatoes that he could.
"Yeh! Blues!" Noah chirped again, raising a fist and faking as though he were punching a fist through the air to demonstrate what he meant. It probably looked a bit odd though, given that he had his new-found shell tucked under the other arm in the process. He frowned when she gave a shrug and informed that she’d already had a name upon falling into Mel’s possession.
"Oh?" He stared blankly a moment, clearly confused. "Well… she’s an odd one. She dun’ attacked meh earlier! S’mean," he puffed his cheeks. "nah like yeh though, yeh alrigh’ Luceh!" The Dewott grinned, attention briefly distracted as he felt a hard tap on his head, looking up at Lafayette who was holding another empty plate.
"Yeh hungreh mate?" The Aussie inquired, watching as the Dewott lit up in excitement, chirping and giving a solid nod of approval before jumping up to hook himself on a ledge to try and peer at his options.

Mel looked thoughtful. "Huh...." And perhaps a bit intrigued. She couldn't help it. It clearly wasn't normal, but she was curious. She wasn't sure if it was worth ever giving the pokemon sugar again in the future just to see what happened, though. Tempting as that might have been. Maybe if Lafayette sanctioned it first.
Yep, casual. She stayed oh so casual and nonchalant, pretending to take everything in, but she noticed the quick look he gave her, and the expression on his face. It seemed she must have timed it right or something, though, because he didn't address the matter. Silently grateful for that, she let the focus shift to the food, and grinned as Lafayette agreed, picking up a jog to totally not sort of kind of race him to the food. She slowed and snatched up a plate to get some food for herself, eyeing Lafayette's choices, while getting some of her own. She wasn't that hungry, buuuuuut.... Well, Mel didn't normally need to eat a lot, but when she wanted to, she could. As Brian was sometimes reminded when he offered to pay, or they went to a place with really good food. She was typically more conservative on her eating, though. But somehow, she felt compelled to get more, with Lafayette piling it on. She stuck with some of the lighter stuff, but picked up some of the sweet meats and tropical dishes they'd put together.
Lucy tilted her head, watching a bit, and then dropped into a fighting position, both her hands up with her feet shifted to balance. "Y'mean fighting?" she asked to confirm, then straightened when Noah did. "I don't think so.... Not that I know of, anyway." She blinked and tilted her head again when he mentioned Phia attacking her, tail swishing thoughtfully behind her. ".... Does Mel know?" she queried. She perked up at the compliment, though, a big grin slowly crossing over her face, before she did a little hop, hands dropping to the ground to give extra lift. "Thanks!" she chimed happily, clearly pleased at the compliment. She looked over as the trainers interrupted, crouching back down a bit, then striaghtening as Mel looked over. "You too, Lucy. Help yourself," she urged. The monferno promptly propelled herself up, onto the shelf and grabbed a plate, before taking Noah's, and looking down at him. "What you want, Noah?" she asked.

Lafayette’s focus was on loading his plate at this point and boy, he didn’t hesitate. If there was any greenery it was hidden under like the ribs and legs and potatoes and mac salad he’d piled on. It was a shame really that he only had one arm because he felt like he needed a second plate. Instead he just stacked a roll on top and carted it off to set at the nearest open table he could find, doubling back to grab a drink and some utensils to before finally taking a seat. He waited (as patiently as he could anyways) until Mel joined before digging in, trying not to be rude in his eating habits, as hungry as he was.
"So Mello, what’cha up for afte’ this?" He inquired after a bite of what he presumed was ribs. They had a sort of sweet-tangy taste which momentarily caught him off guard before he continued with his munching.
Noah grinned and gave a quick bob of his head as Lucy understood what he was saying. "Yeh! Exactleh! Yeh got it!" He tilted his head curiously though as she remarked that as far as she knew, there hadn’t been any other fighting. He wasn’t sure how to feel about that to be honest; but then again maybe the dynamics were different in their group.
"Yeh! She does! That one guy tha’s always with her told ‘er!" He responded, puffing his cheeks at the thought. Brian had been properly angry which was good; Phia had deserved it. It reminded the Dewott that Lucy wasn’t out to know, it made sense why she was asking. He grinned though, giving another nod. "A’course!" As attention turned back to food he stared in awe a moment before throwing a fist into the air. "All tha’ fruit they got sheila! Ever’bit!"

Mel blinked at the question, looking up from her food. She'd been able to grab her drink and utensils with her food and headed back, but, in turn, waited until Lala was also ready before beginning to eat. She paused, then swallowed, straightening up some and wiping her mouth with a napkin. Hadn't they talked about this already? She could have sworn they'd talked some about their plans.... or maybe that was just what they'd been doing. "Oh, am... Didn't I--" she started, but stopped when, suddenly, Brian sat down next to her. She raised her eyebrows in surprise, but her eyes widened when she actually took in his appearance. His sopping wet appearance. His tank top under his jacket clung to him, his jacket hung heavy, and water was already seeping over the seat and dripping onto the floor.
He'd managed to climb out of the ocean and onto the shore with Bubbles (who had flung himself over the bridge to promptly land on Brian's head, after attacking his kidnappers with a Water Gun attack), and begrudgingly returned to the bridge after he was sure those punks were gone. They must have been pissed at the dousing they got, because they'd ditched the horsea's pokeball, letting him reclaim it, and return his pokemon. Once he'd gotten close enough, Z had telepathically informed him of his companion's location-- and her company, though at this point, he couldn't really bring himself to care.
"Wha.... what the bloody hell happened to you?" Mel asked, a smile of disbelief slowly crossing her face. Brian just stared dead straight, at nothing, an unamused look on his face. ".... Fell into the ocean," he replied after a moment, moving to bring some of his jacket around, and try and wring it out. Mel gave a short laugh, clearly not sure how serious to take that. "Did you know," he started, pulling out some of his things, including a now very dead communicator, some receipts, and a few other bobbles, "That there are a bunch of hooligans running around here, mugging people?" Mel almost laughed out loud, her eyes wide. "You got mugged!?" she laughed in disbelief, her companion's expression remaining deadpan and neutral as he just stared ahead. Obviously, she wasn't taking this serious. But Brian didn't seem to be exactly surprised or particularly angry about this.
Lucy was pondering what Noah had told him about Phia, but looked down when he gave his request for food. She nodded, hopping along the counter, holding her plate in her tail, careful not to set the food on fire, while gripping Noah's in one hand, and tossing food onto both with the other. She swung the plate around to her other hand once she'd piled them both high, and leaped down, landing and handing the dewott his food, while looking curiously over at the table. Huh... It looked like Brian was back.

Lafayette was shoveling (sort of) food in his mouth, awaiting an answer for his question from Mel that’d she’d already shared with him -he was racking his brain a little bit trying to remember- when another individual plopped down at their table. He blinked, chewing slowly as his eyebrows rose high at the sight of the drenched Brian. Wow… he certainly looked awful. The Aussie swallowed his mouth full of food, staring in awe at Brian as he answered Mel’s questions. He… fell in the ocean? Well Lafayette could sympathize though he was curious how the man had managed that. Last thing he recalled, Brian hadn’t been anywhere near an ocean, right? Did he miss something?
And then the man mentioned getting mugged and Lafayette couldn’t help but be confused. Mostly because of the laughing that followed from Mel. She didn’t seem to be taking his claims of being mugged all that seriously; that or there was something funny about the whole scenario that he was missing. Maybe Brian’s wording was wrong? Over exaggerating what had happened to him? Something was going on that was for sure and it was going over his head.
"Yeh got mugged mate? " He blinked and titled his head to the side, brow furrowing. There were robbers on these islands? Really? It was a good thing he didn’t let the pokemon wander then. "Realleh?"
Noah grinned as Lucy fetched his plate, taking it from her in pure delight before skipping towards the table their trainers occupied. He was practically drooling as he eyed all the scrumptious fruit on the plate and set it down on the ground to start eating before his attention was distracted by Brian’s sudden sopping wet appearance. Oh wow, what happened there?

Lafayette wasn't particularly missing anything, this was just.... how things were between them. If Brian didn't take something seriously, neither did Mel, but she always had his back. If he did take something seriously, she knew it was severe. She was the one that kept things lighter, but moving. He balanced things out with his skepticism and caution. It was probably why they were able to tolerate one another so much, when either could easily (and likely) be found irritating or hard to get along with for an extended period of time, by others.
Brian glanced at Mel, then gave a bit of a sneer as he looked at Lafayette. "No, I'm joking," he replied flatly. Mel punched his arm and he jerked away, grimacing at her. "Don' be a jerk, Bri," she chided, withdrawing her hand as he rubbed the bruise, "They didn' take anything, did they?" Brian frowned at her, but lowered his hand back down after a moment. "They tried to take horsea, but I think he water gunned them or something, 'cause they left him and his pokeball after throwing me in the ocean." Mel raised her eyebrows. "They threw you?" she asked, a bit more focused now. "Yeah, off that bridge leading to Hee-heh city. Or whatever it's called," he explained, grabbing some of her food. She eyed his hand, but decided to allow it, then frowned when she noticed the bruise on his face. ".... They do much damage?" she asked, reaching over to take a better look. Brian pulled away. "Not really," he replied, popping some food into his mouth. He would... forego the details of that unpleasant encounter.
"Well, we can hunt 'em down after this," Mel decided. "They certainly oughtn't be allowed to roam around. Wonder where the police even are here..." Brian shrugged, eying Lafayette. "So.... what've you two been up to?" he asked, more than ready to change the topic.

Lafayette watched in confusion as Brian and Mel talked, still gradually consuming the food on his plate. No joking, huh? It was still hard to tell with the way Mel went about it at first, inquiring further about what had happened. He shoveled another spoon of potatoes in his mouth, eyebrows going up as Brian admitted the thugs tried to snatch his pokemon. Oh yeah? They clearly didn’t know what they were doing if they failed.
"Dayum mate, sounds like yeh got lucky," the man remarked as he ate a bit more, eying Brian a second. He could kind of tell by the way the other man kept pulling away that he was probably hiding some kind of injury, but that was certainly more Mel’s concern than his own. In his opinion, if the man could stand and walk around then he was fine in his opinion.
"Hell yeh we can! Knock some heads ‘n show’em somthin’!" Lafayette grinned, taking a few more bites of food. He didn’t answer in regards to the police comment; that wasn’t entirely something he worried a lot about. If it was like any other region, than they were hardly doing their jobs. Which is why thugs got around in the first place. He glanced at Brian as the man inquired what they’d been up to, glancing at Mel curiously before giving a shrug. "Nothin’ much mate… jus’ a lil’ rough housin’." He commented. Because Lafayette wasn’t about to happily talk about the scenario that had played out earlier. He’d managed to shove that to the back of his mind to control his temper and he meant to keep it that way.

Brian gave Lafayette a look that suggested he very much did not share that opinion, but didn't comment. He glanced at Mel as she 'reassured' him, and Lala with a wary look when he agreed. "Oh yeah? You--""Are more than welcome," Mel cut in, starting in on some of her own food, "We could use an extra pair of eyes to look out for 'em, 'n if there are too many, it'll help to have someone to take 'em down." She gave a playful wink, before stuffing some food in her mouth, and slowing her chewing at Brian's question.
She returned the glance Lafayette sent her way, before shrugging and giving a smile as she swallowed. "Yeh, just hung out for a while. You go into the city, then?" she asked, swiftly switching topics back. Brian frowned. "Yeah, to make sure the pokecenter had room," he muttered suspiciously. She nodded, going back to her food. "Alright, well, once we're done here, we can go look for those louts if you want. You gonna get second helpings, La?" She addressed the Aussie and pointed to his plate before returning to her own food, but looked over as Lucy climbed up onto the table, placing her half finished food down to look curiously at Brian's face. She, apparently, was more insistent on inspecting the bruise than her trainer, surprisingly enough.

Lafayette shoveled some more food into his face, noting the odd look he received from Brian. What? He was! Thugs could be rough; he’d know, heh. He swallowed and grinned as Mel confirmed, giving a solid nod of his own in support. Maybe it wouldn’t be where he wanted to direct his new-found energy and previous anger towards but it was certainly something to do.
He listened thoughtfully as Mel interjected her own comments on what they’d been up to, falling silent for the time being to consume his food thoughtfully. The banter was nothing amazing and briefly, he tuned it out, glancing over at Noah and Lucy curiously as they seemed to be communicating with one another pleasantly. What were they talking about anyways. He perked back up though as he was addressed, snapping his attention to the pair. Blinking he looked down at his plate to note that it was pretty much empty, considering a moment before he gave a grin.
"A’course! An’ Dessert too! Can’ leave off tha’," he remarked as he stood, blinking and looking at Lucy curiously as she climbed up to address Brian and his wounds. Noah watched the pair curiously, still chomping away at his food as he did, a little curious himself what mess of wounds the other man had received in his tussle.

Mel chuckled a bit, waving her fork at him. "Go ahead. I'm still reeling from that drink," she replied. The one she'd gotten had been.... pretty sweet and fruity. And a lot of the food she had was along the same lines, even if it was more substantial. She took advantage of the break from Lala to talk to Brian some more in low undertones, and by the time the Aussie might have returned, Brian was heading out again, this time, with Shaie out by his side. It wasn't much more protection, but they could communicate better, and she could come find him in the city after she was ready to hunt down that group. Plus, Brian knew where to avoid, and to wait till others were in any area to bother traversing there.
She looked back up when Lala, presumably, returned, flashing a smile and still working on her food some. "Your parents cook for you much, La?" she asked curiously, still being conversational despite the departure of their temporary companion. Lucy had managed to at least somewhat succeed in her examination, and had settled down in Brian's spot to resume eating.

Lafayette cocked an eyebrow, chuckling to himself a bit at Mel’s admission before giving a curt nod and heading off to gather his second plate of eats. He went a little lighter this time, though there was still meat and more potatoes and then some mac and cheese and some basked green beans that he was willing to shovel down. He took a swing by the dessert table and eyed all the options before collecting himself a couple of strawberry short cakes and a few brownies. He managed to find a tray so he wouldn’t have to go back and forth for the plates, though the whole balancing act was a challenge but he managed to successfully carry it back.
He plopped it down rather unceremoniously, blinking and noticing that Brian was up and heading off with a Riolu trailing just behind. The Aussie frowned a little, taking a moment to realize that it was more than likely the same one he’d traded off to her. Boy, did that seem like forever and a day ago. He watched a moment as he plopped down in his seat, redirecting his attention to Mel as she addressed him, caught off guard by the question.
"Eh?" He remarked, settling in and picking at the food he’d grabbed to try and figure where to start before. "Eh… meh mum did. Simple kinda fanceh stuff, nothin’ big though. Dad’s not much feh the fanceh stuff. How ‘bout yeh?" He inquired as he shoved a bite into his mouth, giving a final glance in the direction Brian had exited.

Mel propped her head up as she listened, hardly at the "absently snacking" at her food point. "Fancy? She made you fancy meals?" she asked in minor surprise. It wasn't so much a comment on his mother's cooking, so much as Lafayette's eating habits. He didn't really seem like the sort that would go for "fancy".... But then again, maybe he had a different idea of what all qualified as that. She blinked as the question was (sensibly) turned on her, but smiled an odd, almost curious sort of smile. "My mum? I mean... sometimes, when she was home. My dad tried, but he was never too good at it. I'd say did most of the cooking at home," she replied, straightening her shoulders a bit and smiling, almost proudly. Of course.... that wasn't to mention the quality of her cooking, which was typically not good. But unlike her dad's, it was edible. Most of the time the family just.... got take out, though....

Lafayette quirked an eyebrow, cheek building a bit as he stopped chomping the current mouthful he had. He hadn’t failed to notice the hint of surprise Mel had when he’d given his answer, though over what, now that was what confused him. "Yeh wo’ ov et?" He spoke through a mouthful of food, a rather horrible display of etiquette. Not that he was one to remember such things on a constant basis. Still though, it was hard to miss that his words were far more terrible than usual and so he took a moment to finish chewing and swallow, swiping the back of his hand across his mouth before speaking again.
"Yeh, she made fanceh stuff. She’s from Kali ‘n all they do that I think… she use ta cook treats for the train so," he shrugged. He liked the sweet stuff but he could live without most the fancy meals which is probably why they weren’t nearly as frequent as he probably made them sound. He listened as Mel explained her own family habits, shoveling the final bits of his food into his mouth before pulling the dessert plate in front of him. He gave a grin though as she admitted that when it came to the cooking, that was pretty much all her.
"Oh yeh? Yeh got a special sheila?" The Aussie chuckled before starting in on his dessert. It didn’t last nearly as long as it looked like it should’ve, with the man downing the sugar within a few minutes. Clearly, he was well practiced in eliminating food enemies. He stacked the dishes off to the side before retrieving his water to finish it off.
