”Here you go cousin! A Rowlet and some other goodies to help you along the way!” Kukui announced upon his return. Sullivan gave a grin and a little bow before taking the goods, stashing the pokedex, pokeballs and potions away in the knapsack he had with him, slinging the bag back over his shoulder as he rolled the newly acquired pokeball in hand. It was evident from his face that he was pleased with his gains, tucking the ball away for now. He raised a flat hand to his mouth slightly, gesturing out towards the professor several times in thanks before he lowered it and gave a snap. Junpei jumped to attention, giving a yip of his own in recognition that they would be leaving now.
Sullivan gave Kukui another wave before turning and heading out the door. That was one task down and the next for them would be making their way to Hau’oli City. As they stepped outside he squinted, using a hand to shield his eyes as he looked up at the sky. It was still early after all, barely the afternoon to be honest. They had plenty of time to cover the ground needed. Perfect.

Professor Kukui's Lab: Though it took longer than he thought it would, Dallas Tucker was still in good spirits when he reached Professor Kukui's Lab on Melemele Island. "Heh. Looks like a dump," he said to himself. The building was indeed beat up on the outside, but hey, maybe it would be better on the inside. Besides, Dallas had a plan, and this was stop number one.
He had been away from anything resembling freedom for the last few years, and now that he was allowed to go off an do what the hell he wanted, it was time to make up time on his Poke'mon adventure. Though he looked like a common thug (and he was, don't be mistaken), the delinquent was smart and had come up with his plan to rise to fame and fortune. A lot of research and planning went into this, and it was time to get started!
Dallas stepped up to the front door and pushed it open like he owned the place. "Yo, Professor Kukui," he called out, "Heard you got some cool Poke'mon around here! Well, this guy's here to collect!" He had the cocky grin that was definitely punchable, but with the eyes that said 'go on, give it a try!' But it seemed that there wasn't anyone directly around. Dallas' brows furrowed, and he slumped a little bit. So much for that entrance, he thought. He started to wander around the lab, looking at the equipment and piles of papers. It was pretty impressive, to say the least. Supposedly this professor studies Poke'mon moves. It sounded pretty rad to Dallas; he'd have to come back here some time and see what Alola has to offer.
For the time being, however, Dallas' patience was starting to dwindle. "Hey! I said, I'm here to get a Poke'mon! Where you at, Kukui?!"

"Sorry about the wait, cousin! Here, take this Litten! And here, some potions and poke'balls for your journey!" Dallas took the items from Kukui and quickly stowed them, more interested in the Poke'mon in the ball. "Alright, a Litten! They're supposed to evolve into a real badass later down the line." The new trainer tossed the ball down, and it burst open to reveal the small Fire Cat Poke'mon. She looked around for a moment before spying Dallas, at which she ran over and started to fiddle with his shoelaces.
"..." Dallas only stared at the little thing, looking almost disappointed. The professor seemed to notice as well. "...If you don't like Litten, there's other-"
"Nah, I doubt you got anything better. I'll take the furball of your hands." Dallas returned the Litten, and slid the poke'ball onto his belt. "Alright, I'm outta here. Good luck with your move thing or whatever, I don't care." He gave a very half-assed goodbye, and headed outside...

...but as soon as he got outside, Dallas ran a good enough ways away from the lab before letting his Litten out of the ball again. She looked up and smiled at him again, and this time, the usually scowling Dallas smiled himself. "So cute!!!" he exclaimed. "Look at you, you little cutie! C'mere!" Dallas scratched her little chest, and she mewed happily. "You got great coloring, too! You're gonna be a cool little gal, aren't ya?" The Litten mewed more, but finally had enough scratches and swatted at Dallas' hand. He retracted, and laughed. If he was teasing a person and they swatted at him, he'd give them a one-way ticket to Pain Town on Knuckle Airlines:Fist Class. But with Poke'mon, he was almost childish.
Dallas sat down in the sand next to the Poke'mon, and gave her a pat on the head. "You don't take any crap either, do ya? Just like me! We're gonna get along just fine." The Litten climbed up on his leg, and urged him to pet her again. "Okay, okay, but after this, we gotta get goin'," Dallas said. "And we gotta be tough when we do it, alright? We got a reputation to keep...speaking of, you need a badass name so people don't get the wrong idea..." Dallas thought about it for a moment, before a grin came over his face and an idea formed. "I"m gonna call you Beltigre! You like it?" Beltigre mewed, and seemed to understand.
"Alright then, Beltigre, let's blow this joint! We got a boat to catch!" He hopped up, and Beltigre hopped out his lap. And, as Dallas started to walk onto Route 1, she followed close by, trying to mimic his swagger.

Skipping almost ahead of each other, Sana and Dana made their way into the lab. The two junior trainers had slept most of the bus ride to Alola and were now proverbially and literally bright eyed and bushy tailed."This lab is amazing" Dana said eyeing the new surroundings, her eyes took in the lab equipment with an almost hungry expression and while she stayed close to her sister, it was obviously costing her some effort. "We're here to pick up pokemon, not a new microscope for you" the ever pragmatic Sana said while her sister muttered something along the lines of "chea like they'd even use the same microscope I used here"
Sana walked faster, and with purpose, eyes roving around only to ensure that she wasn't passing the person she wanted to see, Dana following behind her at a slower pace and stopping several times to look at the equipment. "Professor...um.."she paused, realizing she couldn't quite recall the name. "Kukui"Dana put in from where she was looking at journals on a table and...some kind of machine. "Right, thanks Professor Kukui? Are you here?"
There was a scrabbling sound coming from the ceiling above the girls' heads...or rather, the floor of the second story. A rockruff, barking with excitement, came down a set of wooden stairs. It was followed by the professor's strapped, almost but not quite flip-flops. "Alola! What a great day, I've got two young cousins here for a visit!" Rockruff danced at his feet, tail wagging.
But there were still sounds coming from upstairs... "You want to meet the others?" Kukui grinned and called out. A moment later three pokemon came down the steps, a litten, popplio, and rowlet. "I like to let them get some fresh air. So, what do you think?"

Both girls looked up at the sound of footsteps and reacted differently when the professor arrived. Sana flapped her hands in excitement and glee at seeing the Rockruff, giggling when she was called a 'little cousin'. While Dana looked up with a stuttered "I wasn't doing anything-I mean hi."jumping half a foot back from the table and the papers she had been trying to decipher.
"Alola, What kind of pokemon is that?"Sana asked pointing at the rockruff and leaning down to look at it. Dana meanwhile was staring at the three Pokemon in front of her leaning down to examine them. The rowlett hopped up a bit giving a soft "let" before flapping down. "I want this one" she announced reaching down to pick the grass/flying hybrid up in her arms. "Sana?" The older twin turned a critical eye on the two remaining pokemon. Putting a finger to her chin in thought. "Kitty"she finally said pointing at the litten. Although she gave a regretful look at the poplio. If she could she'd take them both but as it was, she had to pick and the cat definitely looked like it had contest potential. Of course...the eleven-year-old had no idea just what contest potential was...but she was sure the litten had it. Yeah. Sana pouted and in the end they ended up picking the Poplio ( since it seemed only fair that they'd pick a neutral party.) "That one" Sana said while Dana put down the rowlet "that way we can share it"

He laughed, his open posture letting Dana know that he didn't mind at all. He liked it when new trainers showed curiosity and enthusiasm like these two! "That is my rockruff. They're a rock-type pokemon native to Alola."
Kukui was glad the two were able to decide on a pokemon together; he may worry that they would regret compromising, but he believed they would come to love their new popplio. "A great choice. And it looks like popplio is happy to come with you. Take some pokeballs and potions to help you on your way. You'll have to share this pokedex, but doesn't look like that will be a problem, eh my little cousins?"

"May I please scan it with the pokedex?" Sana asked when she was told about the rockruff. So these were the pokemon she'd find in this region? It was already looking to be exciting. When the profesor said Poplio was happy to come with them, both twins smiled. Sana took the pokeballs, while Dana received the potions. Both of them laughing a bit when he said they'd have to share a pokemon and that it wouldn't be a problem. "No sir, thank you" "Really really thank you thank you" After everything was put away the twins waved good bye and left with Poplio in tow. Sana carried the starter while Dana pressed buttons on the pokedex as they left. Neither girl really knew what awaited in this region, but they knew it was gonna be epic.
Luna initially knocked on the door to Kukui's lab. Her knocking, however, was gentle and she knew there was no way he would have heard it unless he had been pressed up against the door. She gave a short shrug and verbally spoke to no one, "Oh look at that, guess I won't be starting an grand adventure after all!"
Near her feet came a spark of protest. Her Pichu, newly hatched on the boat ride to Alola and a gift from her mother, squeaked in defiance. "Pi!" Pichu crossed her small arms before pointing at her with an accusatory paw and gesturing to the door. She crossed her arms again, tapping her tiny feet as she waited.
The human sighed and pushed open the door, peeking her head through with a grimace. She called out weakly, "Um... hello? Is Kukui here?" She felt a small shove on her legs, and saw Pichu pushing at her. Luna obliged the small creature and stepped into the lab. The Pichu made a pleasant sound, and hopped up, catching onto her trainer's beige cardigan. Once it had a good grip, and frightened Luna somewhat, the fresh trainer curled her arm around Pichu's bottom and held the mouse in her arms.
"CHU!!!!!" The Pichu shouted at the top of its lungs."

Kukui might not have heard the newest trainer enter if not for the loud squeak of a Pichu. Aaaand his Rockruff barked happily in response, scrabbling across the floor to meet the newcomer. "Alola, cousin! I'm professor Kukui. Do you need a Helping Hand?" he greeted, approaching after his friendly dog companion. The Rockruff seemed eager for attention, tail wagging vigorously.
Luna reeled back as the Rockruff barked at her. She understood it was simply excited, but she was still worried about Pichu. She held the small Pokemon closer to her chest. Pichu seemed to enjoy the protectiveness of her trainer and purred somewhat. "Alola to you too, professor Kukui. Name's Luna." As she spoke, Luna could tell that the Rockruff was simply looking for attention. While this was her first Pokemon journey, her neighbors had all had various pet Pokemon, usually canid and canine-type Pokes.
Luna relaxed a bit, realizing Pichu was safe. She put Pichu on her shoulder, and bent down slightly to pet the Rockruff around the ears. If it allowed her to do so, it would discover that she didn't necessarily understand where to pet, but was gentle nonetheless. "I'm new to Alola from Kanto. Got fam here, ya know? I guess this is the start of my first official journey... I was told to ask you for a starter!" Luna thought back to conversation she had with her mother. Her mother was Alolan, and went on about many details... so many Luna had trouble remembering the entire conversation. Still, she latched onto a familiar Pokemon name. "While I do have a Pichu, I think I would love a Popplio to join me. Um, my mom recommended one!"

Rockruff tilted its head at the odd manner that the girl was petting its ear, but enjoyed the attention nonetheless, licking at her hand as she attempted to pet it. Kukui chuckled at the dog pokemon's actions, then gave a friendly smile to the girl who introduced herself as Luna. "Nice to meet you, Luna." He then listened as she went on to explain what she was doing here. "You've picked a beautiful place to start your journey, cousin! It must have been quite a journey already to get here. " Kukui commented, then nodded as she asked for a starter. Specifically a Popplio. "Sure thing, cousin! Popplio is quite a talented water type. A pretty good choice, in my opinion." he said, then motioned for her to follow him deeper into his lab. He took up a pokeball from his desk, releasing a popplio before handing the ball over to Luna. "Popplio, meet your trainer, Luna! - I just need a moment to register a pokedex to you." Kukui told the water starter, then directed his attention back to the trainer. "Bwark!" the popplio barked, then blew a few bubbles from its nose. Rockruff barked and chased the bubbles around in the background as Kukui was getting the dex ready, as well as what seemed to be some travelling supplies. It left a good amount of time for Luna to interact with popplio for a bit if she wished. After a while, Kukui was back before Luna, handing over a dex, some pokeballs and potions. "Here you go, cousin. This dex will keep track of your pokemon's information. It also has a map built in to help you get around. Also, i can't send you off without some supplies to start your journey." he told her, handing over the stuff. "Good luck with your journey! I hope you enjoy the beautiful islands of Alola on your way."
