Adjusting his glasses, he noted the flushing by Adder upon his observation, quirking an eyebrow. "It is better to accept ze truth, le jeune homme." He shrugged and then turned away to start walking. As Adder probed once more on the contents of his case he stopped, pausing a moment before looking back and tapping the case.
"Something more valuable than you." He remarked and turned again to start his way out of the berry farm and back towards the hill. Seriously, did the kid really expect him to tell him? Because he wasn’t. He’d done enough ‘sharing’ with his badge and his license; that was about as many freebies as Adder was getting with Ashley in his current mood. "What is your name?"

Adder scowled, hard, at Ashley. "All I said was 'shut up'," he pointed out bitterly. He really, really hated people nagging at his height, but he got the feeling the guy was on the edge with this, and he wanted answers, not... well, he wouldn't just let Ashley leave, but he'd rather not throw himself down and latch onto the guy's ankles or something. Ashley stopped and rolled his eyes in annoyance as the child rushed around him to block his movement once more. This boy… was ******** annoying. Goodness his patience was being tried and he normally had a good amount of it to offer. Maybe it was just so many annoyances on top of one another that made it difficult.

Adder frowned, expression hardening some. "Like you don't have some 'truths' you don't 'care for'," he snapped back. Any interest in the guy, and his accent, and his language, and his guns, was starting to fade for Adder. Or, well.... he wanted it to be. He wasn't letting this go, and that was totally out of just sheer stubbornness, and not persistent interest. He raised his shoulders in a sort of shrug when Ashley repeated his name. "Yeah," he uttered, trying not to get defensive about that, too.
His eyes flashed and his hands dropped to his sides, though, when Ashley bluntly declined his challenge. "Why? You're afraid you'll lose? Look, I gave you back your thing. I asked what was in it, and you didn't tell me. You wouldn't show me your licenses or anything to make sure you weren't some dumb criminal getting ready to shoot everyone! So I took leverage, and I gave it back! The least you could do is battle me, or answer my question," he demanded, folding his arms again, "Unless you're really that childish and petty." Ashley felt an eye twitch at Adder’s comment, expression hardening to try and prevent any further reactions. And then Adder went into his self-righteous speal when Ashley had opted to decline his challenge and for a moment he pretty much froze in spot, staring daggers at the boy.

Ashley stopped himself, shutting his eyes and taking a deep breath as he pressed a thumb to the middle of his temple. Was he this annoying at thirteen? He couldn’t recall but... no, no he wasn’t. At least, not with adults. Members of or around his peer group? Different story. No matter how much he might’ve wanted to act on his initial instinct, he couldn’t (or shouldn’t at least) and so… he just needed to calm down.
He dropped his hand back to his side, staring at Adder again. His expression hadn’t changed; it was still clear he was agitated and a bit flabbergasted. "Non." He remarked sharply, stepping forward and roughly poking Adder in the chest as he continued. "Honestly mon ami, if I was a true criminal, you would be dead." He leaned forward a bit to meet Adder at eye level; he semi wished he had a bit more height to himself for the intimidation factor. "A criminal, even if dumb, would’ve shot your a** ze moment you turned your back. This? None of this would be happening. You would be dead and I would be somewhere else while your body cooled on ze sidewalk and they called your mother with the news."
He straightened up and stepped back again, still giving a disapproving look to Adder. "If this was your attempt to be a hero then you have failed. Miserably. An F minus all ze way." He snapped. "And I do not owe you any answers, criminal or not. You have no rights to such and are owed nothing. Cops need warrants to search and get such answers, you know. Where is your warrant, hm? " He rolled his eyes and shook his head. He probably would’ve gotten more results talking to a brick wall, but he didn’t… he felt semi-obligated to try and get the point across all the same. At least so no one could ever claim he didn’t try. He took a few steps back though and set the case down right beside him, alert and ready to snatch it up this time if Adder tried again to thieve it.
"But fine. You wish a battle? I accept." He waved a hand in Adder’s direction before proceeding to adjust his gloves. "What are ze rules? Set your terms now boy or I will assume we will only be using one."

Adder rolled his eyes. "Oh please, don't give them so much credit. You don't have to be a cold blooded killer to be a criminal. You don't have to stupid enough to shoot a kid in the middle of the day in a relatively populated area, to be a criminal. If you were, you'd probably be in jail by now," he countered. Seriously, did this guy think he was being intimidating or something? Adder met his gaze evenly, not at all fazed with the graphic imagery and wording. If he was going to get killed by a criminal, he'd hope it would be in such a stupid way-- the a*****e would be caught in no time.
He rolled his eyes at the grade, too. "Oh yeah? What would you have suggested? Go get the cops while you, a hypothetical criminal, could just disappear or something?" he retorted back. His expression deadpanned and he squinted. "And you... do know I'm not a cop, right? You're the fed," he added. Was this guy getting so angry, he was getting stupid? Or, maybe it was Adder not getting sarcasm. He got that he wasn't being serious, of course, but.... the jab did seem kind of out of nowhere for him.

Well Ashley was certainly done trying to talk logic at this point. He didn’t know if Adder noticed his own hypocritical thinking; he certainly hadn’t hesitated in turning Ashley into a criminal for simply owning a gun of all things. And since criminals all over the regions were actively assaulting trainers left and right for their own desires… he really wouldn’t have put it past someone to do something that stupid. Especially if provoked by someone like Adder.
Maybe it was a lack of experience that made this difficult. He did give Adder a look at the remark of ‘disappearing’ or something, holding up a finger. "I do believe I told exactly where to find ze police." He corrected, quirking an eyebrow. "I am fairly certain that is not something a criminal assists with?"Why was he talking again? It was pointless.

The Jolteon immediately jumped into his hyperactive mood set, looking excited; though more so for the scenery than whatever battle was about to entail. Ashley just folded his arms over his chest waiting for Adder to send out his own pokemon to get things going.

Adder was obviously being smart with his suspicions and not at all stupid or childish, so why wasn't he acknowledging that? Seriously, did he have to explain his whole thought process to the guy? Or was he so adamant to refuse conceding, that no matter what, he would continue to dismiss him and his totally logical claims.
He frowned at the French, getting a general idea of it, but straightened up, and decided to pretend he didn't. "Good," he stated shortly. He reached back, but paused when Ashley sent out his pokemon. An.... electric type. He didn't... have any ground pokemon. Dammit. He paused, then reached for his best option. Rather than grabbing her ball, though, he turned towards her, motioning. "Go on, Lady. And put this back on," he insisted, tossing the air freshener at the grimer as she trudged forward. Ashley just stared and said nothing. Right then. He scowled a little when the Grimer rolled out as Adder’s first pokemon, staring a moment at the air freshener. Was that … helping with the scent? He had a hard time believing it did anything but kept quiet.
He frowned as the Grimer attacked, watching Theodor wince as a sickly hue of purple followed. Great. Poison. Awesome just how anyone on the face of the planet wanted to start a battle. He watched the Jolteon continue to excitedly respond though; good to see he wasn’t wavering despite the affliction. If anything, he looked more energized and ready to attack.
"Theodor, use Thunder." He ordered, watching the Jolteon charge up and release the attack, managing even again to jolt off another shot. Ashley just gave a little nod, arms still crossed as he watched.

Adder remained his stubborn self-- until the Jolteon attacked twice in a row. His eyes went wide and his arms immediately dropped to his side. How.... an ability? He quickly urged Lady to use Crunch, before the opportunity passed, but frowned once he recovered. He lifted a hand up, flushing slightly. That uh.... was actually a pretty impressive tactic there. Though, given Ashe's expression, he wasn't sure if it had been intentional or not. Dropping his hand from his face, Adder frowned. Whatever. He was pretty sure he was still going to win this. Lady seemed to be holding out better than the guy's runt Jolteon.

Ashley’s expression hardened some as the inevitable happened. A shame that the paralysis hadn’t been more effective but he supposed there was only so much one could hope for. He returned Theodor and stared a moment at the Jolteon’s pokeball before tucking it away and reaching for another. He’d… have to make it up to the eeveelution later.
He had to think about it a moment before finally pulling and sending out Odilon, the Swanna stretching his wings out before folding them at his side, eyeing the scenario curiously before giving a look back at his trainer. Ashley’s expression didn’t change, instead simply gesturing for the Swanna to pay attention.

Adder absently rubbed his nose as he studied the guy. He couldn't really read him, though. This Ashley fellow had a pretty solid poker face -- or, to put it just as accurately, such a consistent RBF that it was hard to get a read on anything going on in his head. He blinked when the man released his next pokemon. Wow.... that was a... different kinda swanna. His surprise was clear, but he recovered, shaking his head, and thinking a moment. Odilon looked bloody pissed about it as well, giving a scowl (well as much of a scowl as a Swanna could manage) as the Grimer attacked. Ashley straightened and adjusted his glasses.
