There was lots of talk lately. Lots of it. And honestly, Lineback was sick of hearing it. Why talk when one could do? Lineback shook his head silently, to himself more than anything. He would never understand the general public. Mother was right, she knew that they had to be put in their place, needed to be shown where to go and how to survive, how to live, how to thrive. He couldn't wait until something would get done about how everything ran around the swamp. But he could be patient, at least on the outside. All would be done and fixed in due time, Mother said, and he had faith in this. They were strong, and it would get done.

To find out for themselves, the troupe had set out to the edges of the mud and the wetness, and travelled to the flat lands out beyond that. There, Lineback had seen from afar anyway, that there was a breeze that shifted through the long grass and swayed the trees that surrounded what he could assume to be an oasis, not far from the edges of the swamp. It was towards that, that he was leading Desire and Sunshine now, and it was there that they would decide what to do next.

Desire would never believe in what the general population said. They were full of myths and wise tale, dreams to keep their hopes but no will or desire to make their dreams come true. In most, they were of little political use to her. There were some stupid, but strong bucks she could use, but for the most part they were unappealing and useless. In such a manner, it sort of reminded her of one of her sons, Sunshine, who she swears the swamp made a mistake with and put in the wrong sac. With curls like hers, a bright golden coat and horns, there was no mistaking he was hers... but there was mistaking him for a her. Lineback on the other hand was the spitting image of his father. He was big and strong, a great leader for her army if there ever was. Her marks covering his coat proudly displacing him as hers.

She was following her son carefully, each of her steps taken proudly. She would look around, nothing to change her opinion that wise tale was nothing more than that.User Image

Sunshine on the other hand, who walked just like his mother, was looking wryly around, worried about the thought of ghosts and other strange happenings that people would tell tale off in this place. Although he trusted his mother, and he looked up to her he could not stop worrying -- nearly second guessing her decision and belief that it was just wise tale. She was the only doe he loved and wanted affection from though and he wanted her approval. To do this, he tried his best to cover any worry he had. He would be a prime example! His head held high, eyes shining bright and forward with his curling blowing gently in the wind. Does and bucks alike often found themselves staring at his posture. He certainly had Desire's allure, but none of her desire to use it. The only desire he had was to gain her approval. He knew, if he had been a daughter, that he'd be her pride and joy. She would show him off to all the bucks in the swamp, gaining double the attention... but he was not. He could gain the attention of does... and some questionable bucks that Desire demanded he not speak of.

Sunshine was totally lost in thought when Desire's head snapped around, piercing eyes staring at him.

"I-I'm sorry mother!" He yelped.

If he had been apologizing to anyone else she would have yapped at him about how apologizing is a sign of weakness, but to apologize to her was a sign of respect. She nodded her head and looked back at Lineback. Oh how Sunshine was envious of Lineback, he had it all. A large, bulky figure, horns, and even mother's mark! If he was Lineback, he'd have all of mother's love! He could not be Lineback though, and he'd find someway on this trip to prove himself to his mother. He would, he would somehow.

He walked proud, head held high, each step planned, tail swishing deliberately back and forth, flicking away any pesky flies or other bugs that strayed too close to his short coat. His eyesight was sharp, and long before they got near the oasis, he could see it clearly. It was a rather large expanse or green grass and straight through the middle of this expanse ran an elongated pond, or lake judging by it's size. Around the edges of the water there were plenty of tall cypress trees that cast long shadows on the ground. Shade, water, and grass. It was a perfect place to settle down, a perfect place to start up an empire.

Once they made it there, he was sure that they could begin planning their first move on the swamp's gullible inhabitants. He was anxious to get moving, to get working, to begin hatching their plans, but he would never show this on the outside, no, no. He would keep such weaknesses within himself, and he would tell no one, except perhaps his dear mother in confidence, should it come to that.

He cast a glance over his shoulder as they approached the oasis, and it landed squarely on his brother, Sunshine. He was not sure what had happened there. His mother's genes were determined and proud, while his father's were strong and able. So where did the skinny blonde one find his? He shook his head just once, and kept walking. There was nothing really to say about Sunshine, other than he hoped that with time he would find those missing genes and utilize them to the empire's benefit.

Desire watched Lineback for a moment, and looked ahead to the oasis. She said something in a clear voice, signaling to Lineback that she agree with his thoughts, that they would stop and make camp here. Sunshine was completely left out, and Desire paid little head to her daughter.

"This looks perfect," she said, stopping abruptly, almost causing Sunshine to bump into her.

Oh boy, he was glad he didn't. He'd never have heard the end of it, perpetually apologizing to her dear mother.

"I-I'll... go find something for us to eat. Please rest up mother!" He eyed his brother, and then Sunshine fled into the tall cypress trees, eager to please his mother and out do his ever pleasing brother Lineback. He just wanted his mother's love and respect like Lineback got. It wasn't fair! He sure hoped the myths about this place wasn't true! But he'd do anything to get his mother's respect.
