[OTP] Night Terrors (Manslaughter and Unsung Valor)

Distracted as he is by her intoxicating scent and the mesmerising colors and patterns of her coat, he loses track of where her hind legs roam and before he manages to convince his teeth to bite into that flesh a little harder, just tear the tiniest bit of skin away... he feels a wild kick connect with his chest and it's just enough to push him back a pace or two. Front hooves momentarily in the air, he tries to recover by pulling himself into a full kicking rear at the doe. He did not appreciate getting hit, but he was not about to let his anger overtake his more sensible side, if one could call it sensible at all.

After letting out a snarl, he allowed his hooves to plummet back down to the ground, causing a good tremble in the surrounding earth. Eyes flared up, brighter than before and glared straight at the doe, but only a moment passed before it softened just the tiniest bit so that his maniacal cackle could overtake his expression. The sound poured out of his mouth as water fell over rocks, it felt natural to him, but the sound itself was the furthest thing from.

His shoulders ducked a touch, as he awaited her next move, or insult should she continue in her current stretch.

The moment she felt her hoof connect, she was scrambling away, rolling under the kicking hooves and scrambling back to her feet. The earth shook as he landed and she squeaked, the sound thankfully lost under the thump.

She eyed him, and the forest her crane had disappeared into, and decided. It wasn't cowardice that made her whip around and flee, she argued to herself, just sense; he was bigger, and stronger, and malicious. She hoped she was faster and a little more agile, especially back in the swamp, where tangled roots and sucking mud were hazards to the unwary.

Her squeak was unnoticed as he lowered his head even further as his shoulders sank into his sides and his sides down into his bending knees. The entire beast went from tall and menacing to just plain massive and compact. His lips curled up and drool began to sprout, making it's way over some of his teeth as his expression turned into one of inane hunger.

The second that she twitched away from him, he knew what she was doing, but he would give her a head start. Any game deserved an equal playing field... well... he grinned, equal enough. A few seconds passed as he lowered himself even further, tail twitching back and forth like a cat's... and he was off.

He began with a gigantic leap, graceful for such a massive creature, and landed with an even more impressive thud. And so the chase began. He would follow her until he lost interest. This time around, he didn't want to catch her. He wanted the chase, the thrill, the fire-hot blood, the adrenaline.

Soon enough, he would stop the snapping and the howling and the cackling and all the other unpleasantness that he liked to bestow on his prey and he would slow to a steady trot, and then to a walk... and finally stop completely.

He would by then have taken mental notes on this doe's behaviour throughout the endeavour, and have taken care to notice how she runs, where she tried to run, and her general demeanour when pumped full of fear and panic. And he would remember them for future reference. This was not a doe he was just going to let slip away, oh no. A devilish grin found his features as he turned back around and headed in the direction of his grisly home, where he knew Massacre would be waiting for him. This was definitely a doe he was going to find in the future... definitely a doe that he would seek out again... whether she liked it or not.
