All good Pirates have tales of their many voyages. Tales of grand fights on the sea, of pillaged treasures, raunchy tales of wenches bedded. Fierce tales of braving storms or escaping the siren's call. Even a few of sighting the most glorious of treasures a Mermaid! Aye! Mermaids are said to have the curves of a woman from head to hips but the lower body of a fish or dolphin. Oh, and are they a sight to see. Naked bodies glistening with water, long hair their only coverings, voices to make men kill over. Not only that but they say if you eat the flesh of a mermaid you'll gain eternal youth and life everlasting! A few smaller myths say that scales and hair make magical items too.

Nay, but it is every sailor's dream to lay eyes on one of these beauties. Even just a glimpse is said to drive any same land lubber mad with lust for the creature. Often times they say if a sailor catches sight of one he'll drive the ship into rocks just to get at her; killing the crew.

Some even say they eat the flesh of the men who drown in their waters. Other tales say they keep special treasure troves and will only give them up to save their own lives or to someone who saves them.

All these mysteries surrounding such a thing. Myth, legends, or truth. Let ye be the ones who decide the truth. Set sail on the deep blue and find the truth for yer selves.

It had been storming all day and far into the night. The ocean had been roiling with the furious winds. Such was that Aria kept himself to the reef helping the little fishies hide away. This was how he expected the day and night to go until he caught word of a ship. Why would humans bring a ship out in this kind of weather! Not to mention so close to the reef. Many a ship had run ashore on this reef, while this kept the tiny little island and it's small population of colorful fish moderately safe, humans were not. Not that the Mer were supposed to care for what the humans did unless it affected their lives; yet Aria had a small problem with liking to peep.

As dangerous as the storm was it should be okay to only poke his head up for a bit. Just to check. Dead humans tended to stink the place up and sharks came in after that. Besides, with all the rain there was no way anyone would spot him. After shooing a small colony of silver fish, the merman pushed up towards the surface. The waves were merciless as they pounded the waters. Rising to fall heavily even on and over the reef. Gasping out Aria shielded his eyes from the heavy pellets of water that rained down from the sky and spotted a large ship with black sails.

"Pirates!" He murmured almost as if it was to worship. Perhaps they were chased this way or maybe they had gotten lost. No one came to a 'dead' island like this. Diving under to swim a little further from the reef he noticed a bit of damage to the ship as it listed to the side over a rather tall wave. The humans on the boat flailed and yelled. Or would be yelling if Aria could hear over the sounds of water and lightning. It was all very exciting to watch them scamper. What were they doing with all that rope? Oh look at that one dressed all fancy!

Just then another huge wave crashed over the ship and Aria had to dive back under so he could resurface a proper distance away.

Luka yelled commands out to his crew members, he didnt expect the storm to be as bad as it was. "s**t," he muttered to himself as he struggled to gain control of the massive ship. The waves were rough and the chances the ship would make it out alive were slim. "Men! Tie everything down!" he shouted out to them. At that moment a huge wave slammed the ship into the coral reef, causing damage on the ship allowing it to take in water. Luke swore under his breath, he went to take a look at how bad the damage was. Slamming his fist against the wood railing at the sight, "You two! Quickly go patch it up! Fred! Take two men and control the water intake!" he shouted.

He hurried back to the wheel and continued to man the ship, but with every hit it became harder. Soon enough the ship gave in and was devoured by the waves, being sucked into the water Luka and all. The captain struggled to swim back to the surface, being taken under by the strong current. He couldn't hold his breath much longer and knew that this would be the end of his journey and that he would not make it out alive.

Aria had been just a ways away when suddenly the ship gave way. All those poor humans! They should have known better than to let their ship get so close to something like a coral reef. But no matter how much he wanted to help their was no way he could save them all. There were so many on that ship that he might be able to get to two or three of the stronger swimmers in time but the rest would have sunk to the bottom in this kind of storm. Maybe if some f the bigger (non-deadly) fish helped they could get the humans to flotsam to cling to.

Just as he was whirling around to go find some the man who had the fancy hat was sinking just passed him. For what seemed like forever Aria just stared. The bubbles were dancing around the man making it look rather pretty and surreal. But as a sudden burst of bubbles gushed from his mouth Aria came back to himself and flicked his tail to push him at the rapidly sinking human in hopes of catching him.

As soon as the merman grasped him he felt the heavy pull of the layers of clothing. Quickly Aria peeled off the jacket, vest, sash, and anything that wasn't useful. Besides he could always find the shiny things later. Next he turned the man's pained face towards him and sucked in water yet when he pressed his mouth to the other's he blew in air. Soon enough he had a firm hold of the human and was swimming up. The moment they broke surface the mer looked around for somewhere safe. It only took a second to decide the beach. While the reef had places that could been seen almost on the surface it changed with tides some days. On the way he begged the other sea creatures to help who they could.

Once to the beach Aria let the harsh waves wash them ashore then rolled the human to a safer distance. Now, while Aria could survive on land for a while he had no desire to ever do so...However right now he could wait a little to make sure the human was breathing and all that. Pushing on the man's chest to see if it moved any, Aria couldn't help but notice how pretty this one was.

Luka kicked and moved his arms, trying his best to resurface but the current kept bringing him down. He knew he shouldn't have gone into the reef, yet he was stubborn. Now he was meeting his end, this thought sadden him. He still wished to explore all the seas, perhaps in his next life he would do so. His arms and legs soon stopped moving and he could no longer keep the water from coming in. Luka closed his eyes, feeling his lungs starting to burn as water rushed into him.

He soon felt gently hands and his weight becoming lighter, he then felt smooth lips on his or at least he thought it was. The pain in his lungs eased up as he felt air flow into his mouth. A tug was soon followed after and water passing through him. He wondered if this is what people experienced when they were drowning. Everything seemed dark and unreal, he wondered if this was all a dream and he was simply in the captains room.

The pirate felt the soft sand again his back and someone next to him. But Luka was still not fully aware. After the merman did a few compressions on his chest, he quickly sat up and coughed up water. The burning sensation coming back to him as he did so. He blinked his eyes and looked around, seeing the blurry figure beside him. Luka tried his best to make out the figure, "Hello..." seemed to be the only words that came to his mind at the very moment.

Aria's tail flopped a bit in worry as he was pushing on the human's chest. When the man suddenly sprung forward the merman yelped and made as if to dive back into the surf.... But the other didn't come after him merely gasped in more air. Blinking he leaned forward and put a wet hand on the man's shoulder. "Rest." He pushed at his shoulder. "It'll be alright. I'll stay with you a while more...." He instructed to the human shifting to be closer again. Although he wasn't terribly warm, a bit wet maybe even a tad slimy, Aria hoped to soothe the man into laying back now.

Smoothing a hand over the other's matted blonde hair he hummed softly a lullaby his mother liked to sing to him. Before he knew it he was full on singing to the human man, softly but sweetly. It must have helped because the man seemed to pass out again. Oh. Well. If he was sleeping again then he should go. Watching him from the shallows should do. If he stayed here much longer he'd be beached when tide rolled out.

Pulling himself back into the sea Aria kept looking back until he was a good deal away; but not to far to rush back to help the human. He waited and waited just to make sure the man could get up and move. Of course this was purely because it was bad if humans died too close to his reef. Sharks and all that. Totally not interested in the human who had worn the pretty hat.

Speaking of! All his shinies were on the ocean floor. Smiling at that Aria peeked over at the reef, he'd have to get all those things. Maybe he'd keep one or two of the prettier ones but that would be fair for saving him and all.

Luka blinked awake after a hour, he softly groaned and rubbed his eyes, "Where the hell am I?..." he muttered to himself hardly remembering what had happened. He slowly sat up and winced when he felt pain on his side. The skin along his ribcage now turning a light purple as it began to bruise. He groaned once again before he stood up and looked around, he knew what happened instantly once he stood up, "Ship wreck... how am I here though?..." he thought to himself and walked over to the water.

He looked around and called out for his crew, he sighed and stepped into the water, "Mike! Peter! Josh! Are you out there!" he called out louder going deeper into the water. He could feel his body aching from the wreck, but he wanted to at least try to find his crew members even if they were dead. And if they weren't he wanted to try and save them, after all they are his men and family.

Aria was swimming around near the reef when a flurry of fish passed by squawking about a human. Turning his head he faintly heard a voice. "Oh!" he gasped out in a burst of bubbles. Most of the sand was cocina (crushed shell and sand) so it might hurt the man's feet if he wasn't used to it. Most beaches had soft white sands unlike the red beaches here thanks to the reef.

Grabbing up the boots he kicked off with his tail towards the surface hearing the yelling of names now. What was a 'mikepeterjosh'? When his head broke the surface a good ways out still from where a man could touch he found the silly human wandering back into the waters! Hurrying he waved his free arm to the man trying to tell him to go back.

About the time Luka got waist deep Aria was there to stop him, although the water was still a bit murky from the storm his bright colors made it easy to see, well sorta. Swimming by the humans legs he brushed them by accident before surfacing a little bit away. Just popping his head and shoulders out. "Not that way...." his singsong voice called out.

Luka frowned, he didnt want to believe that his men were completely gone. Plus he knew his men would do the same thing for him if he was missing. Perhaps they were looking for each other, this thought made Luka giggled a little before going serious again. He looked around and called out the names once again, hoping to get some kind of response.

He shivered when he felt something slimy touch him and blinked when he seen the male in front of him. "What do you mean not that way? I am looking for my crew, I am pretty sure it is this way that I must look..." he stated. He had to admit the male was absolutely beautiful, probably the nicest creature he has ever seen. He cleared his throat and continued on swimming, "I will continue in the direction that I wish to," he stated.

Luka then glanced at the male, "Who are you anyways? And why are you telling me not to go this way? Do you know something that I do not know?" he asked.

Dipping his face down when he was admonished by the blonde Aria peeked his red eyes back up to him. "Oh... They should be fine as long as they can swim and float though," Aria answered. He'd asked the dolphins and bigger fish to help so most likely they found some flotsam to give the men to hang onto or pushed them to shore.

Drifting effortlessly after the human as he swam the male just watched. A small smile came to his lips at such defiance. Humans weren't meant to live in water yet this one seemed to think otherwise. "You'll cut your feet if you keep going. When you hit the reef that is. Your hands and feet will get bloody and then attract sharks and the like. Blood in water is very dangerous." He explained putting on a little burst of speed with a tail kick to swim in front of the man to stop him. "And I prefer that sharks stay away from my reefs. They tend to make a mess of things," he sighed out through his mouth.

"Come on then, back to shore to put on your boots," the mer said pushing at one of Luka's shoulders to turn him around. The water logged boots he was swimming with were heavy. After herding the man back into the shallows successfully, by pushing him and heading him off when he tried to turn around again, he tossed the boots up on the red orange beach. "Cocina will probably feel rough on your feet. Put those on." Aria said not leaving the water where only his chest up was visable.

Luka raised a brow, "A little blood has never killed away one and so what if the sharks come? The water is shallow here I do not think they will make it to me with his amount of water...." he said. He wondered if the other was maybe crazy, could be a possibility. He allowed the male to push him back to shore, there was no point in arguing with the other.

The blond haired male rolled his eyes, "I can handle this sand just fine, I have landed on may beaches before. Why are you so concerned anyways?" he said walking onto the shore. He sighed and put his feet into his wet boots. He looked up at the merman, "Were you the one to bring me to shore? Or did I magically turn up in the sore?" he asked looking directly at him.

He had wondered why the male wouldn't get out of the water, but he decided not to push on it. He really need to get looking for his crew, he really hoped that they were still alive. If not he had to stay here look for another crew and another ship for that matter. The thought made him groan, "s**t..." he muttered to himself. Even if he did have his crew he had to get a ship, there was no way of leaving without one.

Luka sighed and ran his hands through his wet tangled hair. He need to find a way to get gold and fast. He didn't want to spend much time in this place then need be. His eyes moved away from the merman and back out into sea.
