 Farewell Smile was not an obvious choice for the endurance challenge. She had a definitely frailty to her, in her slender frame and in the light sweep of hair over her eyes. She looked breakable, drownable, and most definitely exhaustible. She came anyways, poised for a fight, because she felt that she had to prove herself, make the others see that she had joined them for a reason, that she was useful. She felt so useless otherwise that, perhaps, probably, definitely, this was more for herself than for them, but she tried to ignore that.
She wanted to be selfless, to be good, but all she was was flawed and angry, conflicted, but determined to smile.
When she set out on the course, she could already knew that this would not end well; she would not finish with her head held high. Then again, she never did anything with her head high and proud. Mostly, this was the beginning and she was bad at beginnings because she was always already at the end, ready to say good bye and return to her loneliness and her seclusion, to fade away because it was easier than living. |
