Story:

Deep in the Alaskan wilderness a young man finds a bit of discarded clothing; a jacket made from a smooth, warm fur the young man can't identify. He takes the jacket home and gets on with the hard work living in such a wild place entails, when something odd happens. A seemingly random stranger suddenly appears and doggedly flirts with him day after day for no reason the young man can discern.

But the true connection between these two seemingly random events may be too surreal to believe . . .

The twenty-year old Jason Rowe rode into town with nothing more to his name than a worn-down backpack and a roller suitcase that had lose both of its wheels. His clothes were worn down to a thin near-tearing state, but he still had a smile on his face and a roll of bills in his pocket as he looked for temporary lodging in the town of Toescale Habor. He shacks up in an old, rundown inn that hadn't been full since the years of the gold rush and begins looking into buying a plot of land of his own, to build a home and a life away from crowded cities, civilization, and anything bigger than the small corner store that supplied all the necessities that couldn't be grown or built by the locals.

It is during one of his initial forays into stoking out the available land he comes across something a bit unusual …

*

Watertight boots crunching on the rocky shore, Jason made sure his backpack straps were tight and hiked along at a steady pace through the brisk summer air. Scrub and brush lined the rocky coast, right before the shrubs turned into scattered trees, and then into the thick forest. The young man was of a thin, wiry build with little fat to his bones, though his cheeks were still slightly rounded with baby fat. Jason was sure that would go once he'd had a few winters here and got to living like a person should, down to earth and enjoying the simple pleasures of living in the moment. Without stupid s**t like television dramas, internet, politics, or any part of the shallow frustrating world of modern convinces.

His hair was a light, chestnut brown with blond highlights that glinted in the sun, and a small peppering of stubble across his cheeks after being in too much of a rush to shave that morning. His ears full of ocean-song and eyes towards the eastern forests, the man nearly trips over something he'd assumed to be just another rock out of the corner of his eye. Stumbling, Jason pinwheeled his arms before stabilizing and looking at the slick object left laying half-hidden by a bit of bush scrub, bending down and picking it up. A bit of surprise surfaced in the man as he looked over the jacket, turning it this-way and that- before patting off a bit of dirt and grit, wondering how it had gotten all the way out there. The population of and around Toescale Harbor was extremely low, and anyone who would leave a perfectly good jacket laying around to rot, especially pone like this that looked to be made of a waterproof fur …

Perhaps a tourist had gotten unlucky, or someone had lost the jacket overboard a fishing boat. Shrugging and deciding finders was keepers, Jason smiled a little to himself unbuckled his backpack and stuffed the jacket inside of it before going on his way, hiking another good three hours along the coast and another two inland before he'd found a possibly-suitable spot for claiming. He'd found another two in the weeks before, but was in no rush to claim anything this summer. This first year Jason planned to explore, get the lay of the land, and hire himself out to work for some of the locals to see how they did things before beginning the real work of building a home for himself from the ground up.

It was still light bu nearly sunset when Jason finally made his way 'home' to town. The dirt street that slid through the heart of the small community and back out again was nearly empty of life. Many of the buildings of the town were empty and left open to buy, but Jason wasn't interested in them. He not only needed a home, he need land to grow his own food, perhaps raise lifestock even. That was all up to the future.

For now, Jason hoofed it at a quick, eager trot to the old inn. No one manned the old desk; an older couple lived in the house next door and collected rent once a week, or once a day depending on how long one was staying. The young man went into the building and up to the second floor where his room was, locking the door behind himself and settling in for the night in his bed, having eaten a jerky-and-wild-berry dinner on the walk back, thinking no more of the jacket he'd found on his day out.

The next morning Jason left most of his things in his room and went out on the town, heading for the local small diner for a warm breakfast. Grabbing himself a booth Jason sat down, ordered himself some hash browns and sausages, and laid out a large map of the area onto the table, plotting out other places to explore while he sipped on a fresh cup of coffee.

Summer was one of the best times for Mana Finnegan, in fact it was the only time he could take a break from his noisy family and just not worry about them. His sisters would be busy with the influx of fishermen, the brothers with fishing, and his parents with keeping them all in line he could spend time alone. Not that he didn't love his family but winters were long and hard. Not to mention they saw way to much of each other.

It had been early that day he swam up on shore and shed his skin to spend time away from them all as most of them set up to hire a few extra hands on their boats. Fishing was that mainstream thing here in Alaska, next to hunting and foraging. The Finnegan family had helped for many generations with the fishing in Toescale. Their way of handling the boats right down to casting nets was the best and lots of people bought their hauls.

Truthfully Mana was happy to be a part of it all but it got old after a while. He wasn't the oldest in the family by far yet he held a good amount of influence with his siblings. Always the serious one they said. Well sometimes it was hard to see what was so funny or not about things!

Huffing now he was severly upset that he let himself be bothered by family in his down time, Mana hide his pelt jacket under a bush and rushed into the waters again. A few laps to work his arms and legs until he couldn't think and relaxed was just what he needed. And despite the warm air the waters were cold but he even liked that too.

*
It was afterwards when he came back to the beach that a little birdie told him his pelt was taken by someone; of course it was after Mana started tearing the bushes up the bird thought to speak up. Because of the delay he recruited the black bird into helping him. Crows, he was corrected, Ravens had good memory of human faces.
*

The next day, after he'd slept all night on their boat, Mana let the raven perk on his wide shoulders. Up close and friendly like that the thing could tell him if it was the right person or not, besides Mana always had that strange talent to charm animals even as a sweet-faced lad. Only now he was a handsome, tall, and well built man. His hair was a bit longer than most but it kept your ears and neck warm to wear it longer, that and it's platinum blonde shine made many sigh in appreciation, his skin was a light tanned from his work on the waves with a light sprinkling of freckles over his nose, cheeks, and shoulders, of course his toned body spoke for itself. Hard manual labor on a fishing boat was good enough to put muscle on any man, or boy.

As he walked through town a few kids squealed and asked to pet the birdie but he politely declined. It was still a wild animal and might startle and n** at them, or so he said. He'd have clocked the thing if it even thought of doing so though children didn't need to know that.

"See them yet?" He whispered then waved to another townsfolk.

Ruffling it's feathers the bird groomed. "No, not yet. With so many new faces coming to town it's a lot more work..."

"Stop complaining and look..." he growled poking the bird unsettling him. A loud squawk was his reply while Mana chuckled. Then suddenly the big black bird darted off!

THWACK!!

He hit a diner window and the blonde rushed over. "s**t Raven! The 'ell were you..." of course he looked up to see if anyone inside was on the other side and he caught sight of a guy. He had soft brown hair and wide startled eyes. Instantly he felt the connection deep in his gut. The raven squawked and rolled to its feet in his hands.

"Oooh!! That's him! That's him alright! Dirty little pelt theif!!" it hopped and squawked at the window. Of course where Mana heard words people heard animal noises. So while a few people stopped to look he was staring right back at the guy in the booth. In fact he made forward and bonked his head, rubbing and cussing. Not even smarter than a blasted bird!

The warm food filled up his empty stomach nicely, and the liquid caffeine going down his throat without a hint of sugar or cream perked the man right up as he pondered over his map. He'd explored everything half-a-day's trip from town, so it seemed it was about time he got some proper camping gear and began making longer forays into the wilderness. Hm, now to bother with getting a tent or not to bother with getting a tent ... Most one-night shelters could be easily built from things on-hand in the deeper woods. On the other time the time to build a shelter from scratch would cut into his travel time per-day ...

Taking another sip of coffee, Jason nearly spit it right back out when there was a massive sound of collision and the sight of something big and black out of the corner of his eye had the young man shocked beyond belief, having no idea what had just happened and staring out the (luckily unbroken) window of the diner in shock as a random (impossibly hot) man ran up and picked up that had apparently flown into the window: a raven. Or was it a crow? Jason could never keep the two corvids and their differences straight. But somehow the madly cawing bird was much less interesting than the blonde staring back at him through the window.

The tanned skin made the other's light hair almost seem ethereal and highly exotic, but somehow Jason managed to get over his shock and snort as the other man banged his head against the window, wondering what the story was behind the odd duo of bird and man. Though, more logically, Jason figured the blonde was just a good simaritan who had wanted to see i the bird was alright after flying into the window. Or to see if it was dead so the animal could be put into a stew.

Turning to his coffee Jason gulped down the remainder of his bitter brew (food all eaten as he'd been pondering and planning) before standing up and leaving ample money on the table to pay for his breakfast. Gathering up his map the young man left the diner, trying to put the odd happening out of his mind and to get more focused on gathering what he would need at the general store. Sleeping bag, for sure, a fresh firestarter, and to tent or not to tent ...

The squawking bird was getting annoying so Mana wrapped his hand around it's beak and looked back up only to notice the other had gotten up and was leaving. Oh no! He couldn't loose the guy now! "Stuff it, Raven," he growled and rushed to the door in time to catch the stranger leaving. At first his mouth just opened then he snapped it shut. No sense in demanding his pelt back out of the blue. If the human knew what it was then he'd know that Mana was practically a slave to him now, or in other conditions a likely mate. Swallowing his words he tried again.

"Excuse me, what's your name!?" he asked grabbing the other by his arm to stop him. The sizzle of contact sealed it. This man had his pelt. On his shoulder the bird hopped and stared down at the brunette with soul-piercing eyes but didn't make a peep. "Um, sorry... about the raven. He got a bit excited. Maybe he was hungry or something," Mana made up a lame excuse and babbled on from there. "It didn't startle you too much did it? You were drinking coffee right?" He stroked the bird under the chin gently.

There wasn't much else he could prattle about but maybe he should just offer to be helpful until he could steal his pelt back. Shyly he glanced over the other in a casual way. The guy was good looking, scrawny but boyishly handsome still.

"I'm Mana Finnegan. My family runs a lot of fishing boats and stuff. We do some tours and hunting guilds sometimes too. But mostly fishin' and stuff," he smiled charmingly. "You look new.... if you want a tour of town I can give ya one." Yeah, that's the way! If they got closer then maybe he could find where the guy hid his pelt.

Jason thought that would be the end of that and he'd just gotten a funny story to ponder over on his walks and exploring ... only for the guy to jump him on the way out. The brunet was taken completely aback by this behavior, more used to folks this far north being more .. reserved around strangers, especially newbies in town. Though Jason had hoped he looked, well, more 'native' than most newcomers. Smiling awkwardly he glanced at the hand gripping his shoulder before rubbing the back of his neck, fiddling with the tailend of his short hair before almost cautiously saying: "Uh ... Jason Rowe. Only with a E at the end, you know?"

He glanced at the bird, fascinated to apparently see one tame and perching placidly (if glaringly) on the other man. Jason had been sure he'd meet some odd balls after moving up here, but had not expected to see a bird-tamer. Especially not one as hot as this guy, who's touch seemed to somehow give Jason goosebumps that weren't from unease. Though, really, most regular people would call this sort of behavior more than a little odd.

"Cool raven; don't see many folks with those hanging around 'em. Naw, naw, I'm fine. Didn't even spill a drop." The slightly shorter male wasn't sure to make with all of this attention, shifting and fidgeting a little. One reason he'd come all the way this far north was to get away from staring eyes; well at least it was just this one good-looking guy staring and not the entire fourth grade like the time he'd up-chucked in the cafeteria all over his own shoes. "Nice to meet you, Mana, but I've already gotten most of the necessary places around here located; shop, inn, harbor, local police station. Don't need much more touring than that," Jason tried to wiggle away, cursing himself at the slight heat rising to his cheeks at the other male's smile. He didn't have time for this; well, plus he wasn't used to hot, tan, well-worked-out guys glowing so warmly at him.

"I gotta go--get some gear and stuff," Jason said lamely as he tried to flee.

Jason, his name was Jason Rowe, with and e. Mana wanted to lick his lips and try the name on his tongue but his foot made it first. "That's good then. Coffee burns pretty bad," his face contorted as if he knew from experience. Great, how lame!

"Eh," he looked to the bird who fluffed a few feathers. Vain creatures. "Oh, no he's wild...." Mana said blinking. "Uh, but I get along good with all sorts of animals. Just picked this fella up today actually," he rubbed over the bird's breast , it narrowed it's eyes in appreciation then glared back to the brunette and squawked as if amused by his attempt to escape. The petting turned into a flick on the beak. "Be nice!" Mana hissed at the creature. Good thing the other didn't understand the large black bird's insults. He strained a grin at the other then pondered.

"What kind of gear are you looking for? To rent or to buy? Mr. Abells shop has good stuff. If ya want I can go with, he'll give you a good discount if I ask." He offered kind of shuffling after the brunette. Looking over the other he couldn't quite figure out why someone like him would come all the way to Alaska. His frame was so slight he might just blow away in the wind and he had no meat on him, he'd freeze! Mana almost felt sad for the guy. Not to mention he'd probably go stir crazy when it snowed if he was so fidgety over just standing still.

Still against his better judgement he did want to know more about this guy. B-besides getting to know him would probably be a good thing right!? "Are you here on vacation or did you come in for the summer work?" He asked conversationally of Jason. "If you're looking I think there are plenty of deck hand positions open but..." he looked at Jason's slim hips with a wince. "You'd probably better stick to shore work really. Yer more likely to snap in half..." of course the last part was said under his breath when he turned his head away. His whole hand could probably cup one side of his hips they looked so bony under the guy's clothing. Kind of made him want to protect the little thing.

Jason raised an eyebrow at Mana's familiarity with the burn of coffee and apparent knack with wild animals. All the newcomer knew about wild birds argued against a wild one being so familiar and comfortable with a person ... it was impossible in his mind. Rationalizing it, Jason figured the raven must've been handfed from townspeople for a long time or something, like a neighborhood feral cat. But the brunette did eye the exotic male as Mana shuffled along after him, a small frown barely visible on his face. He'd come this far north to try to avoid awkward, unnecessary social interaction, and yet here this hot guy was trailing after him like a lost puppy.

"Just some general traveling and survival gear. To buy. And I was heading there ... why ... why exactly, if you don't mind me asking, do you want to get me a discount? I mean it's great but ... why?" Jason wasn't used to strangers paying so much attention to him ... and when they did he generally didn't like it. And giving for free? It just seemed, well, suspicious. The shorter male was used to people not giving something for nothing ... that favors were asked for, or some sort of trade was necessary.

Jason gave an odd half-wince half small smile at Mana suggesting boat work then saying shore worked suited him more, something Jason very much agreed with ... but for another reason. "Y-yeah, no. I get as sick as a dog on boats ... the sea just isn't the place for me. So if you know anyone shore-side that needs an extra pair of hands, I'm all for it. Though, I'm looking to stay for the long-haul. Get some property, make my own way, you know?" Jason was smiling, unaware Mana clearly didn't think the Alaskan wilderness was any place for such a lithe person.

Mana's cheeks tinted pink and so did his nose when Jason's suspicions hit home. It was odd to suddenly start being so friendly wasn't it. FOOL! He'd ******** up already. For a moment he floundered nervously, blushing like the idiot he was. "Uh... yer new and stuff..." he hedged looking off to the side a bit. "I mean it's not like I go about doing it for every new guy but... um...." his sea colored eyes reflected his insecurity about being questioned. The raven huffed at him and Mana frowned. He was acting like he had to answer, which he didn't.

"I just wanted to be nice...." he shrugged his unoccupied shoulder at him. There. Simple and easy. "Ah, what?" suddenly he seemed shocked to hear someone got sea sick. "But the waters are awesome! Granted it's pretty cold sometimes but the smell, the taste, the waves!" Mana's eyes came alive and a happy look passed over his face. "Being one with the sea is about as close to heaven as one can get; whether it be on a boat or just being in the water." Sighing happily he calmed down and breathed in the air. It wasn't Jason's fault the push and pull of water made him sick.

"Sorry. But it's sad you can't appreciate the beauty of the sea since it would just make you sick." He apologized leaning passed the other man to get the door. "After you." Once in the shop he looked around it. So Jason wanted to settle down here? Such a scrawny guy? A sudden worry the poor human would freeze to death out here in the wilderness crashed into him and a deep frown that made his forehead crease appeared on his features.

Chewing his lip he looked the man over again. "Sorry if this is pretty forward but...." he sighed. "I just can't leave you alone to go out there by yourself. Summer or not." Determined he jogged over to the owner and chatted him up for a bit. "And I'd really appreciate it," Mana flashed a smile to the older man who had age spots and a good body from his work as well. The owner smiled back behind his beard and looked to Jason.

"So you'll be wanting to settle in then? Mana said you wanted some stuff," the man had a deep burly voice but a rosy happy face. "We're always happy to welcome new neighbors, take what you need,, pay me when ya can. I'm more than happy to give young people like you a chance." Laughing he thumped the blonde's back happily. "What you don't use or keep go ahead and return it to me and we'll call it even." The man wandered off and Mana stared at Jason.

"As for that, I guess it's settled...." his smile began slowly spreading over his lips. "And since I'm one of the younger ones in my family I do more tourism things, I'm more than happy to go with and be your guide: free of charge of course." By now he was grinning ear to ear. He had the man in his sights now. "Ah, as for the reasoning, because it seems important to you..." his cheeks filled with color again. "I guess it's because I like you."

Though Mana clearly didn't know it, Jason blinked and got a rather prominent clue as to why the other was so interested: the blush. Ah. Oh. Was this guy ... interested? No, he couldn't be ... a hot guy like that had to have someone else in his life already, right? Even in Alaska there had to be a decent enough population or rugged young guys and girls going after a guy as well-built and, well, good-looking as Mana clearly was. Tan skin, such bright, light hair ...

Jason was snapped out of it when the other talked on about the sea. "Hey; just because I can't get on a boat doesn't mean I can't appreciate it! I'll just have to admire from a distance instead," the brunette said simply, remembering his walk along the beach the other day and even the odd jacket he'd found as well. But before he could dwell on it, there they were, and Jason was looking around eagerly. But Mana's next words had him whipping his head around, eyes wide. Well, getting followed around by a hot guy did sound appealing but ... he'd come here to have some time for himself, not being guided around like some tourist.

Before he could argue against it--hell, Mana was jogging away, over to the owner. The brunette didn't have long to pout before the guy was bringing the owner over, who looked like a nice guy. Jason was relived at that; he'd heard warnings shop owners could get a little crazy in the smaller communities, and even power-hungry. Well, when one managed to have the only open shop in the area Jason supposed the power could get to people's heads. Luckily, this man was clearly a nice old guy, to which Jason gave a smile. "Thanks so much! Don't worry, I'll make sure to pay you back as soon as I can, sir."

Once the old man ambled off, Jason was right at the shelves, very carefully looking through the gear available and grabbing a large blue sleeping bag the would suit his needs, holding the roll on one shoulder and only glancing Mana's way before looking for a few other small supplies he needed to stock upon, taking careful stock of what he grabbed so he'd know exactly how much to pay back. Though ringing them up and letting the old man keep the receipt would make it official how much he would have to repay.

"Look, I'm grateful I really am. But I don't want a tour guide. I'm not some guppy fresh off the plane for you to dazzle, look all cute at, and get for an easy lay, okay? Besides, I'm not as hopeless as you're actions seem to suggest you think I am. So ... thanks. But no thanks. I can make my own way." With that, Jason grabbed the last thing he needed and headed for the register, seeing a tab book there and proceeding to write down the things he was taking so the old guy would know what to restock.

((Coooock-block =D ))

((So smooth!!!! *Gapes* He full nelsoned him a no and made it look so easy! *dies laughing*))

The rebuff stung bad. His pride had just been damaged but he really hadn't meant to sound like he was trying to get in the kid's pants like that! Face hot with equal parts shame and embarrassment he dashed after Jason, the shop owner Abells chuckling. If the new kid knew about the Finnegans then it was natural for them to all sound like that and expressly try to help ALL. As the older man rang it all up he shook his head. "Oh, don't be so hard on Mana, he's the sweetest of the bunch," he man rumbled with a laugh. "Take him up on it. At least then you won't have to worry about wild animals. It's not that uncommon for wolves, bears, and such to poach a camper's food. Most are docile around little Mana here," he gestured to the tall man behind Jason making a good impression of a fish. A red fish flapping it's mouth open and closed.

Slamming his hands down onto the counter he flushed a bit deeper. "Mr. Abells!!" he whined and stared stricken at Jason. "I didn't mean it like that! If I wanted to get laid I'm pretty sure I could find someone willing..." he stressed. Still his eyes darted away and he muttered. Abells chuckled and told him to speak up. "Oh alright! He's a pathetic little thing! Look at him! He'll freeze to death faster than a child's snotty nose outside on a snow day!" Mana pointed accusingly to Jason. "I'll go bald if he doesn't take a guide! Besides I know a lot of open places that no one has claim to...."

Jason glanced at Mana as his mouth flapped open and closed, then back at Mr Abells in a 'I prefer the bears' kinda way. And when Mana actually managed to speak ... ooooh, Jason's blue eyes narrowed dangerously. "Little. And pathetic, huh?" His tone was calm, but clearly from the way his shoulders were tensed, the seafaerer had just pissed off this particular man. "Right. No. Best time for you to shut up, shove off, and shove it. Thank you very much Mr Abell, be seeing you again sometime."

Jason grabbed his things and split faster than a banana sliced by a samurai blade, hurrying out of the shop and down the town road. Stupid ******** hunk of a man. Let him go baud. Then maybe he'd learn when to not treat a grown man like some in-over-his-head twerp. Sure ... Jason knew, logically, someone with impossible animal-taming powers would be extremely useful in the wilderness, but there was no way in hell he was putting up with the other's oddness for near twenty-four hours a day as they traveled. Nope. And insinuating he couldn't handle some simple survey work on his own ... ugh.

Mana slumped onto the counter pitifully, Mr. Abells just sighed and shook his head. "That was really uncalled for. If you're just worried you didn't have to say it in such a mean way." The older man said shuffling off. But Mana hadn't known how else to express his worry. After saying his piece the owner ambled away to go do his thing. Pushing himself up with a sigh the blonde might have to talk to his family about this after all.

Defeated he made his way to the family boat shop. Maybe Mariena could help him out. As long as the twins didn't find out all would be well. It wasn't long until he was at the shop they owned and as he stepped through the door the bell at the top chimed.

"Wel~Come~" A voice called out making Mana freeze. A pretty mousy brown haired girl with the same features as him, a few freckles, and sea colored eyes popped up. "Oh... poo, it's just you big brother..." she pouted tapping her bottom lip huffing. Her t-shirt pulled tightly against her awesome breasts, bother her and her twin had humongous breasts poor things, but the shirt read their shop logo.

"I thought Mariena was working today...." asking with trepidation Mana stepped back as the other came forward. "And where is Coral, Pearlie?" He looked around for the second little devil. Alas taking his eyes off Pearl let her dig those nasty claws into him. Wrapping her delicate yet strong hands around his arm she grinned ever so sweetly.
"So big brother you look sad, tell lil sis what's wrong~"
s**t he was done for.

Only thirty minutes later did he wish he'd died. Mariena came back to help and Pearl had made him spill his guts. Not long after that Coral was called and all three girls made a fuss. Next up was Russell, the youngest sibling. So everyone but their parents knew....

"Whaaat!? Mana got dissed!?" Russell gaped and leaned forward. "But bro is soooo cool!"
"I know right," Coral sighed dreamily.
"I can't believe he came on to someone so strong~ I want big brother to be more assertive with me too~" whined Pearl. The only difference in the twins was Pearl had a beauty mark below her lip and Coral under her eye.
Mariena rolled her eyes and pushed her short bangs back. Unlike the twins she was tall and built, small breasts, short spiky hair and a cool demeanor. "Oh stuff it, we have bigger problems than his shitty pick up lines: his pelt has been stolen." All around they got quiet and Mana's spirits sank lower. Patting her younger brother she sighed and smiled. "Don't worry, we'll all help you." The others eagerly agreed.

They all wanted to help Mana so they got the description of Jason and went out looking for him.

Pearl and Coral found him first. "Kya! Look it's him!" one squealed. "Wahhh!! He's a cutie!" they rushed the poor man. "Is it true you totally dissed big bro?" "Omigosh! He was so sad!" "Yeah like I've never even heard of bro making the first move," "Huh? Really?! Oh no what if this like stunts his emotional growth!" "Wahhh! Oh no! You're totally right! Then poor Mana will like be alone for ever!" They fussed one on either side of Jason, holding onto his arms. "Ah but didn't he say he wasn't trying to hit on him..." "Eh? Someone this good looking? Big brother isn't blind... come to think of it do you even think he bats for that team?" "I dunno..." They looked up together to Jason and smiled wicked little smiles. "I think it would be pretty hot--" "Having Mana all hot and bothered--" "Over a cutie like you." "For sure~"

Jason had marched himself up to the inn and to his room, proceeding to get any price tags and such off of his new gear and then packing it up properly in his backpack. Time to get out of town and cool off; cover some good ground and get away from civilization for a while. Unfortunately, he couldn't lie completely away from this sort of nonsense until he'd actually bought his plot and built a home for himself ... but at least he could still get away. Which was something he hadn't been able to do back ... where he'd used to live.

Finishing his packing and feeling better in knowing he'd be on his own and at 'work' soon enough, Jason paused and glanced at the jacket he'd found before shrugging and stuffing it into his backpack as well before shouldering the burden and heading out. But he hadn't gotten down two blocks before some screeches behind him made shivers go down his spine. Then two strange girls grabbed his arms and squeaked at him, revealing their familiar features were because they were related to Mana ... and clearly even weirder than their brother.

Freaking out a little but trying not to show it (uninvited physical contact plus the very creepy -finishing-eachother's-sentences going on can do that to a guy) Jason pulled back and tried to yank his arms free, cheeks flushing at their talk of Mana being hot and bothered. Jason did think the exotic male was hot, yes, but also too weird to get close to. There were just too many uncomfortable bells going off, and the appearance and actions of these sisters just made the clanging double.

"Excuse me. I have to get going," he said curtly and probably a little rudely, but right now the brunette was in full on 'flight' mode and really wasn't about to try to be courteous when he was getting so overwhelmed. He'd moved out here to try to avoid these sort of things, damn it, including little 'girls' with screechy, overexcited voices!

He couldn't get away from the twins that easily because the moment Jason started tugging they dug in their heels and their nails. "Oh-no, you aren't going anywhere!" The one with the beauty mark under her eye said with a frown. The other smirked haughtily down her nose at him, her beauty mark by her lip,"We need the details." Both had a good grip on him and both worked on the boats when they couldn't get land jobs at the bar or inn. Still the fact that they could hold him down was bothersome for them.

"He is pretty thin...." one said. "Yeah... Maybe we should like feed him before he goes..." the other replied. "Some meat on his bones would probably make him look even cuter." "Yeah. No wonder brother was so worried... I'd be afraid the poor guy wouldn't have enough fat to keep him warm." Both girls turned pitiful eyes on him. "How about we buy you a meal..." "...and give you a map?" As they started dragging him off a loud voice boomed from behind them making them jump guiltily.

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TWO DOING?!" A tall woman with short blonde hair, tanned skin, wearing coveralls stomped up yanking the twins by the scruffs of their necks off Jason. "The ******** it is you're--" she took one look at the man and sighed, glaring at them all. "Don't tell me: you're the one who smashed Mana down to size?" she asked raising and eyebrow. Then smirked. "Rude a** little twerp probably needed it," the twins squealed their disagreement with their 'perfect big brother'. "Stuff it you two perverts," she snapped dragging them off Jason, then righting his shirt. "I'm Mariena, this is Coral and Pearl," she gestured with her thumb. "Forgive them, they're stupid." She didn't make excuses at all for her sisters. "They have a disease I swear..." Again he got a look over from her. "........." Raising her brow again she said nothing. "How about I treat you to lunch or something as apology then?" She asked brushing spikey bangs out of her face. "The twins can shove off," wiggling her fingers at them to leave. Someone had to mind the store. "So come on," she gently took him by the elbow and led him to the diner again.

Mariena ordered for them both and sat back. Jason had not been able to say no. The woman rubbed the bridge of her nose. "I apologize again for my siblings... All of them. Mana..." she shook her head. "He's usually friendly but I've never heard of him being so rude... and the twins... ugh, have a complex about that man," she waved her hand. "But anyways, you're new here so lots of people will want to get to know you for sure. Don't take it personally. The Finnegan clan has lived here for a long time. We're the major supplier of the fishing business in these parts." Smiling calmly at him she explained how because of them the little town flourished and so when new comers came in who wanted to settle down it was a big deal. She told him about a lot actually making it all ideal chatter while she made sure he ate the big meal she'd bought him.

"Please don't let Mana's rudeness colored his true self okay," she spoke in a way only an older sister could. "He's a good kid. Probably just worried that someone smaller than him would get eaten, he didn't mean it the way he said it. He cares a lot. Which is probably why wild animals like him so much..." She studied Jason a little bit. "By the way do you know any local legends about here?" she asked lacing her fingers together sitting forward over her after dinner coffee.
