☆ ☆【The sudden disturbance around them drew Eir’s attention immediately, the Ninetales looking up just as their party was ambushed by a trio of wild Pokemon. Jumping into action immediately, the already darkened surroundings in their immediate vicinity gradually grew darker still as the ice fox stirred up a storm above them, a hailstorm much to the dismay of the jungle Pokemon as they were immediately pelted with hard icy precipitation. Zoey and the others quickly braced themselves at the sudden drastic drop in temperature as Eir, putting the new move she’d learned to good use, conjured up a barrage of harsh chilly winds and driving snow to fend off their attackers. The Pinsir and Caterpie weren’t the least bit pleased as they were struck hard by the empowered Blizzard but were able to weather through it, albeit severely weakened. The Fomantis on the other hand wasn’t quite so lucky, as the winter storm completely battered it and sent it flying off into the jungle’s beyond. Eir grit her teeth as the remaining two foes retaliated, each managing to get in at least one hit before she finally finished them each off with a pair of Moonblasts.
”Jeez, talk about a warm welcome,” Zoey joked with a laugh, approaching Eir as she pulled out a few Potions to tend to her, ”Ya alright there?” The Ninetales held still as she let the woman tend to her injuries, snorting and giving a toss of her head.”I’m fine, fantastic even! They managed to rough me up a little, sure, but it wasn’t anything I couldn’t handle!”she assured. She’d still been feeling well enough to be able to continue battling for a bit longer, but it was definitely better to make sure she was kept in tip top shape. ”Yeah, well don’t push yerself too much, aight? The closest Pokecenter's all the way back in Royal Avenue, and I’d prefer to not have to make repeat trips from here to there if it can be helped,” she cautioned, glancing sideways towards Coltrane as the Lycanroc nodded in agreement. Maybe they should start considering stocking up on revives at some point, that way they wouldn’t have to run all the way to the nearest Center in case someone happened to get knocked out. Of course they’d only had one instance of that occur so far with Freya fainting from burn after taking out Kiawe’s Marowak, but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to be prepared just in case.
Eir gave a dismissive huff at that, waving a paw in a ‘Yeah sure’ kind of way.”Ahhh please! I’m plenty strong, it’ll take a lot more than that to beat me!”she said, puffing out her chest proudly. Still, she gave a small smile, wagging her tails cheerfully as she looked up at her trainer.”I’ll try to be careful, though, promise~”the fox added, it would admittedly be pretty embarrassing if she let a bunch of much weaker Pokemon get the better of her. Zoey gave a soft sigh, chuckling as she gently ruffled the Alolan Ninetales’ mane. ”Well go ahead ‘n get along now. We won’t be too far behind just in case,” she said, gesturing up ahead.
Not needing to be told twice, Eir happily resumed her lead in search of more opponents, keeping her eyes and ears alert to listen for more noises that could indicate something preparing to jump out at her. It hadn’t exactly occurred to her to look up, as there could very well be wild Pokemon hiding out in the high trees of the thick canopy. However, a sharp cry from right above the fox quickly drew her attention just in time to see a black blur diving through the air right at her.】☆ ☆

☆ ☆【A blast of chilled air was enough to drive off the dive bombing Trumbeak, stopping it right in its tracks as it immediately turned tail and retreated back into the canopy from whence it came. Unbeknownst to the Ninetales, a Paras on a nearby branch was unlucky enough to get caught in the crossfire as the Blizzard ended up knocking it stone cold out as well before it even had any idea of what was happening. Unfortunately, the sudden disturbance of the blast of freezing air howling through the treetops caught the attention of yet another Pokemon, who was less than pleased with all the ruckus going on and decided to take matters into their own hands. The large form of the Oranguru descended towards the lower-hanging branches from its high-up perch where it had been meditating before being so rudely disturbed by the battles going on below, its sharp eyes locked firmly on what seemed to be the source of the problem: the Ice-type fox before it. With a curt huff, the white monkey snapped its leafy fan in the direction of the Ninetales, unleashing a punishing blast of psychic energy at it in hopes of at least chasing it off so it could go back to meditating in peace.
Eir steeled herself as an aggressive wave of energy crashed over her, shaking her head to fend off the dizzying sensation that threatened to seize her. Eyes narrowed as she locked gazes with the annoyed Oranguru, she wasted no time retaliating. Spreading her tails as bright pink light gathered around her, she shot a huge ball of bright glowing energy back at the monkey and knocked it clean off the branch it was sitting on. With that taken care of, however, it seemed like the restless denizens of the jungle weren’t finished just yet. A Paras let out a hissing cry as it leapt down at her, claws poised to strike in retribution for its fallen comrade. Only to be caught up in yet another blast of freezing wind and snow as Eir intercepted it with another Blizzard, sending it flying back and away into the treetops. In yet another unintentional progression of events, the strong winds knocked a Metapod loose from the branch it rested on, causing it to fall and ultimately land right on top of Eir. Startled, she quickly shook it off, firing off another couple of Moonblasts to shoo it away as it could only toughen its hard shell in an ineffectual attempt to soften the blows before being knocked away by the force of the dual blasts. Whew… that was definitely a lot of battles she’d gone through in such a short time, but already she was starting to feel a fair bit stronger than before. Feeling satisfied with the payoff for her efforts, Eir turned to head back to Zoey to heal up and maybe let someone else come in to do some training. However, she paused upon noticing something glinting from the grass nearby as the sunlight caught it.
”Hm? What’s this?”she mused, pushing aside the grass to get a better look. It seemed to be… some kind of tablet? She wasn’t sure what exactly it was, but it definitely looked man-made, perhaps someone had dropped it when they’d come through here? Well… whatever the case, it didn’t look like anyone else had come forth to claim it, so it should be fine to just take it then, right? Maybe Zoey would know what this thing is for. Carefully grabbing the tablet thing and managing to secure it between her teeth as she picked it up, Eir trotted her way back over to her trainer to show off her finding.】☆ ☆

☆ ☆【Zoey hummed as she observed the scenery around them, basking in the cool shade offered by the dense canopy. Certainly didn’t look like this place had changed all that much in the time she’d been away, then again they had yet to really start exploring more of the great expanse of the jungle around them. Her eyes slid to the side to check on her Aviron passenger in her periphery, Hildegard had been rather quiet since they’d arrived She glanced every so often towards Eir, smiling as the Ninetales skillfully handled opponent after opponent as she assaulted all of the wild Pokemon that came at her with a combination of Blizzard and Moonblast. ”Heh, sure are causin’ quite a stir ‘round here, aren’t ya?” she jokingly remarked as Eir was returning, already starting to grab potions from her bag to heal her up. As the Ninetales approached, she noticed the fox carrying something in her mouth.
”Hm? Whatcha got there, Eir?” the woman asked, bending down and holding out a hand preemptively for the Ninetales to hand it over.”Not sure, but I found it just lying on the ground over there. Do you know what it is?”the fox spoke up after carefully placing the tablet thing into her trainer’s hand, tilting her head curiously as she looked between it and Zoey. The redhead hummed, thoughtfully turning the device over in her hands as she examined it carefully. ”Can’t really say for sure… Although, hmm…” as she said that, she noticed a button above the screen part that looked like it activated the thing. Did it even really work? For all she knew the batteries were probably dead, but out of curiosity she hovered her finger over the button and tapped it. To her surprise, with a blink the screen turned green as the device actually kicked on, the words ‘Vs. Recorder’ showing in dark green text in the center of it. ”It’s a recorder of some kind from the looks of it… I think it’s meant to record battles or somethin’, though I ain’t sure what we’d need that for,” she commented, pressing the power button again to turn it off and tucking it away into her bag, ”But I guess we can hold onto it for now. Let’s get ya healed up before we head further in, yeah?” Eir nodded in agreement, eager to see what else this place had to offer as she let Zoey spray her down with potions. She hadn’t gotten roughed up all that much this time, even the Oranguru’s attack hadn’t hurt as much as it would’ve otherwise, but being in top shape would definitely be good in case they might stumble across the trial captain in here. Or maybe even the Totem, wherever it might be hiding out at…
Now that everyone was good and healed up again, Zoey signaled everyone to follow as they pushed further into the jungle. Piper kept her eyes to the treetops, hoping to maybe spot some of those fruits that her trainer had mentioned earlier. This place was very much new to her… she couldn’t help but wonder what sort of tasty wild fruit or berries grew around here, and how they might taste if she could find them. Her ears perked up in alarm upon hearing a clamoring from somewhere nearby, immediately whipping her head in the direction it was coming from. ”What’s up, Piper?” Zoey asked as she noticed the alarmed look on the Noivern’s face, narrowing her eyes in suspicion as she followed her gaze. Just then, a sharp blade suddenly shot out from the thick brush nearby, slicing through the foliage to reveal an older-looking gentleman accompanied by his Pokemon, which included a Leafeon, Scyther, and Ninjask.”Ho! Your help is very much appreciated, Excalibur! This place is certainly quite easy for one to lose their way in!”the man announced with a hearty laugh, a broad grin on his face as his eyes settled on Zoey,”Ah, pardon the intrusion, miss. We’re just passing through, it feel like we’ve been trekking around this jungle for hours! Hoho!”
Zoey slowly relaxed, flashing an amiable smile back at the rather jolly man. ”Hey no problem, man. If yer lookin’ for the exit, it’s back that way,” she returned, jerking her thumb towards the way they’d come. However, she didn’t miss the way the man’s Scyther, Excalibur he had called it earlier, looking over at her Pokemon as if sizing them up.”Why thank you! The help is truly appreciated, miss! Although…”the man trailed off for a moment as he looked towards his Scyther, who seemed to be assessing the woman’s Pokemon and was itching for a battle,”Seems my Pokemon are quite interested in battling you! You and yours look quite strong, indeed! And you’re partaking in the island challenge too, yes? How about it then?”Well, Zoey certainly wasn’t going to turn down an invitation for a challenge, if his Pokemon really wanted a battle then they’d get one. ”Heh, sure. Will warn ya that I play for keeps, so ya better bring yer A-game~” she answered with a grin, ”Think yer ready to try yer hand at a battle, Piper?”
The Noivern didn’t really strike her as much of a fighter, even when those Pokemon had been threatening her back on Melemele when they’d found her she hadn’t even tried to fight back against them. Piper was definitely one of her team aces for the Lush Jungle trial, but at the same time Zoey didn’t want to force the timid dragon to fight if she really didn’t want to. The Noivern stared at the man’s Pokemon, a look of uncertainty clear on her face as she thought over her new trainer’s words. However, the anxious expression slowly gave way to a nervous determination as the dragon stepped forward, facing off against their opponent to-be.”I-I’ll do it,”she said, voice shaky but affirmative as she took on an offensive position,”I p-promise I w-won’t let you d-down, Z-Zoey!”Zoey was honestly surprised that Piper was actually willing to fight, had something changed during the time she had been missing when they were in the dream world? Or maybe she really wanted to grow stronger and establish herself as a useful asset to the team… Regardless, it was clear that the dragon’s decision was set, a grin spreading across the woman’s face as she briefly met Piper’s eyes. ”Alright, let’s do this together then,” she agreed, the two of them looking back towards their opponent as his first Pokemon, his Leafeon, stepped forth to fight.】☆ ☆

☆ ☆【In the end their opponent, who had kindly introduced himself as Elijah before their battle started, was hardly a match for them. One by one his Pokemon came forth to fight, and one by one they were instantly blown away both literally and metaphorically by the sheer strength of Piper’s Hurricane attack. Zoey felt a bit bad that their battle ended up being very one-sided in the end, yet Elijah only laughed merrily as he returned his fainted Roserade.”Hoho! Excellent, very excellent!”he crowed, not minding in the least how easily his entire team had been wiped out,”You and your Pokemon are certainly something, miss Zoey! I certainly wish you the best for your island challenge, and your upcoming trial!”Zoey chuckled somewhat sheepishly, appreciating the praise as she gave him a thumbs up. ”Hey thanks man. Sorry for kinda wipin’ the floor with ye n’ yer team there but I guess it can’t be helped, was still a pretty good fight,” she said, offering a smile in return as they shook hands. Elijah casually waved his hand dismissively at her apology, that same broad grin never once leaving his face.
”Oh it’s quite alright, I believe we knew what we were in for when we challenged you, and it was all in good fun regardless of how badly we lost so no harm done!”he assured brightly, placing his Pokeballs on his belt,”Now if you’ll excuse me, I should be on my way. I believe I saw a Pokemon Center along Route 8 on my way here. Farewell, and best of luck to you, miss Zoey!”Chuckling as she waved goodbye to the cheery man, she turned back to Piper with a smile. ”Ya did great back there, I’m sure we’re gonna blow this trial right outta the water at this rate~” she said, feeling confident as she pumped her fists, ”Think yer up for more trainin’ then?” The Noivern smiled back, nodding in agreement with no hesitation this time. She was feeling much better about her strength and her abilities after her trek through the dream world alongside her new friends, and she hoped to become a great partner to her new trainer by becoming stronger and helping her through her island trials and whatever other challenges awaited them.
Pressing onwards into the jungle, Zoey maybe only walked about two more feet before she was suddenly stopped by something flying just past her head, barely missing hitting her directly in the face. What the hell? A quick glance behind her revealed the object to be a green berry of some kind, apparently a pretty hard one as it still remained largely intact at the base of the tree it had bounced off of. Wait, so that meant…”Watch out!”Coltrane barked out in warning as he saw a barrage of more berries fly out of the brush towards them. Acting quickly he leapt into their path, hardening his tail to become steel tough as he swung it about and skillfully deflected the projectiles. Zoey’s attention quickly snapped back to the matter at hand, narrowing her eyes as she scanned the foliage. ”Who’s there?” she called out, trying to catch sight of the culprit, ”Show yerself or else!”
A ruffling in the bushes drew her eyes towards the noise, the leaves parting to reveal the face of a teenage boy staring hard at the woman and her Pokemon. More rustling followed, as a group of four Passimians emerged as well around the young trainer, berries clutched in their hands as they were prepared to fire off another bombardment e at a moment’s notice.”Ha! Bold words for someone in range of our deadly berry barrage! You’re trespassing in our area, lady! Turn back now or else we’ll be forced to use, uh, force!”the boy called out, folding his arms as he stood stalwart in their path, the small group of monkeys around him copying the gesture as they collectively glared at Zoey and her party. ”Yeah, uh, we ain’t lookin’ for any trouble, but we kinda do need to go that way,” the woman said nonchalantly, gesturing past the boy, ”We’re just tryin’ to find the trial cap’n around here is all.”
”Captain Mallow?!”the boy’s serious expression broke for a moment as an enthusiastic grin crossed his face, though he quickly schooled it back into his moody glower,”Well then, if you really want to get to Mallow you’ll have to go through me first! Berry Brigade, ready and aim!”he commanded, the collective group of monkeys moving in nearly perfect sync as they prepared their berry projectiles to throw once again. Jeez… well alright, if this kid was insisting on not letting them pass without a fight, then it seemed they had no other choice but to accept the challenge. ”Get ‘em, Piper!” Zoey called, the Noivern quickly taking to the air and charging towards their opponents to engage.】☆ ☆

A volley of berries met the dragon head on, but did little more than bounce harmlessly off of her tough skin much to the alarm of the Passimian gang. With the powerful sweep of her wings and a powerful gust of wind directed at their opponents, the monkeys were powerless to stop the storm as they were immediately caught right in the middle of it. The force of the winds shook the trees and sent leaves flying off of the bushes, and when it finally cleared the boy could only stare in awe and disbelief at all four Passimians knocked flat out cold around him.”W-Wah! So strong! Way too strong!”he cried out, quickly moving to return his fainted Pokemon back into their Pokeballs. He bowed deeply towards the woman and her Pokemon who had managed to best him and his Berry Brigade, this lady was absolutely on a whole other level!”Please forgive my rudeness, you may pass as you wish! B-But this won’t be the last you’ll hear of us! You’ll see!”he declared, taking off through the jungle and disappearing into the distance before Zoey could even think to say anything.
Weird kid… but he didn’t seem so bad, at the very least he had the good grace to apologize for assaulting them with berries. That being said, she wondered where exactly Mallow was, though with how vast and expansive the Lush Jungle was the captain could be anywhere in this place. Well either way, she supposed that the longer they spent looking for the captain in here, it would just mean more opportunities for training along the way. Heading on further in, Zoey noticed some strange looking trees that suddenly seemed to litter the path in front of them that looked vaguely like a certain Pokemon that liked to pretend that it was a tree.”What strange looking flora… Are they actually Sudowoodo?”Orpheus inquired, pausing as he inspected one a bit more closely.
”Well, I mean most of ‘em ain’t real Sudowoodo. Look at the roots around the base here,” she said, gesturing down towards the bottom of the tree’s trunk, which had a mess of roots that could very clearly be seen with the thickest parts protruding from the ground. ”Still I’d be careful, ‘cause I’m sure there actually are at least a few Sudowoodo hidin’ out ‘round here. Pretty easy for them to blend in, y’know.” As she mentioned that, Eir blinked as she could’ve sworn she heard a slight rustle and saw one of the trees actually move a little. It was hard to really say if she’d actually seen that or if she was just imagining it, but something told her that she’d be better off not looking more closely into it. ”Just don’t bother them n’ they won’t bother us, simple as that,” Zoey spoke up, gesturing for them to get moving. Hildegard glanced warily at the odd trees as they passed through, not liking how ominous it felt when it seemed like they were probably being watched. Still, if these ‘Sudowoodo’ things tried any funny business she’d make sure to put them in their place, injury be damned. The sooner they were out of this particular area, the better.
The next area they found themselves in was full of tall grass and bushes covered in bright, colorful tropical flowers. The smell of flora was especially strong in this area, with the faintest scent of honey drifting on the wind as a light breeze coasted through the area. Orpheus hummed with approval as he marveled at the abundant greenery and the calming serenity of the atmosphere around here, while Coltrane glared pointedly at the flowers, making note to give them a wide berth on their way through. ”Haaaa… This is one of my personal favorite spots to come to in the jungle,” she remarked, taking a deep breath and savoring the calming scent of the air around them, ”It always seems so peaceful here.” Of course, as she said that, the sound of rustling in the brush around them accompanied by a cacophony of cries and hisses signaled that the peace would only last for so long. She reached for Lukas’s Pokeball on her belt, the Incineroar was surely chomping at the bit to have his chance at training by now and she was more than happy to let him go nuts.】☆ ☆

☆ ☆【The moment Lukas popped out of his Pokeball and took a moment to assess the situation, he wasted no time going to town. Each and every single wild Pokemon that jumped out at them was instantly blown right back from whence they came by a blast of intense fire, though Lukas dialed the severity of the flames enough as to not accidentally catch any of the grass or foliage around them aflame in the process. They would be in super-hot water if they were found responsible for the entirety of Lush Jungle catching on fire, and Zoey would definitely prefer to not have to deal with the police if it could be helped. She’d had more than enough of that kind of experience than she’d care to share, thank you very much. ”Heh, well someone’s pretty on fire so far,” she joked with a chuckle, the Incineroar simply snorting and rolling his eyes in respond. It didn’t look like Lukas was in need of any healing at the moment since he’d knocked them all out before they could even land any attacks on him, so he should be good to go for the time being.
Though that bunch of clowns had been taken care of, it seemed like the disturbance caused by the numerous battles attracted the attention of even more wild Pokemon as a pair of annoyed looking Comfey emerged from the flower bushes and zeroed in on Lukas. The Incineroar quickly aimed for the strongest one immediately, the belt around his waist glowing hotly as he unleashed another Fire Blast point blank at it. The first Comfey cried lowly as it was engulfed in flames, which left a lingering burning sensation even as the fire dissipated. In desperation it tried to land a solid hit and try to regain some of its strength as it drained some of the Incineroar’s energy with a Draining Kiss, but the fiery heel was having none of it as he easily finished it off with one last blast of fire. Angered at seeing its comrade fall, the second Comfey launched itself at its foe, only to be met head on with yet another burst of intense flame that left a lingering burn. Jeez, they really couldn’t catch a break with these wild Pokemon, could they? It seemed like ever since they’d first stepped foot in here they’d been faced with encounter after encounter at every pass. Still, at the very least they were getting stronger because of it, so she definitely wouldn’t discount the abundance of battles as a bad thing.
Lukas, on the other hand, was more focused on the apparent new teammate that they’d seemingly gotten overnight. He did catch sight of the Heracross when they’d been eating breakfast earlier, but he had dismissed it as probably being someone else’s Pokemon at the time.”So who the hell is this guy?”he asked gruffly, narrowing his eyes in suspicion as he looked between the blue beetle and his trainer, demanding an explanation as Orpheus translated for him. ”Oh, uh, Gunnar here’s pretty new to the team, ended up catchin’ him in some kinda weird dream world and… I think somehow he ended up actually appearin’ here in the real world?” she offered, not quite sure how to really explain how a Pokemon she caught in a dream ended up appearing in reality with them. It really sounded like a bunch of made up bullshit the more she thought about it, and from the looks of it Lukas shared the exact same thoughts.”From the dream world…? How the hell does that work?!”the Incineroar demanded, lip slightly cocked upwards into a slight snarl as he tried to make heads or tails of what she was saying. It sounded like what Zoey said was truthful, but he was struggling to wrap his head around how a Pokemon who apparently came from a ‘dream world’ could suddenly appear in the real world. As far as he knew, he had a sneaking suspicion that their new ‘teammate’ was actually not real at all based on what he could deduce from all of this.

I came all this way thinkin’ it was some kind strong Pokemon stirrin’ up trouble, n’ instead I found a tough lookin’ trainer!”Zoey couldn’t help but laugh a little, hands on her hips as she turned to the young girl who apparently spoke with a British-sounding accent. ☆ ☆【The girl’s team of Dark-types hardly stood even a ghost of a chance against Gunnar, the Sneasel was the first to fall as he charged it with his prized horn aglow with powerful energies. One by one Luna’s Pokemon all fell to the apparent overwhelming strength of the Heracross, though Zoey couldn’t help noticing how strange some of the other girl’s Pokemon were. One of them seemed to be a Linoone, but it didn’t look anything like the ones she had seen before in Hoenn. Its stripes were black instead of brown, there were odd star-shaped markings around its eyes that looked similar to stage makeup for a rock band, and even its overall disposition seemed meaner and more aggressive compared to the Linoones of Hoenn. Was it maybe a variant from a different region? It didn’t look like anything that came from Alola as Linoone weren’t even native to the islands… but where else could it have come from? And to add on to the strangeness, the girl’s last Pokemon was a large red fox that looked nothing like Zoey had ever seen before, eyes framed by black fur in the shape of a thief’s mask and a couple tufts of fur sprouting from its muzzle to form the likeness of a mustache. Where exactly did this girl come from that had Pokemon like these??
”Ha, wowie zowie! I expected ya to be pretty strong, but I didn’t think you’d be THIS strong! We hardly stood a chance, we did!”Luna remarked with a laugh, returning her now fainted Thievul to its ball after it was laid low by the Heracross’s Megahorn. She didn’t even look downtrodden at all in spite of her team getting utterly destroyed, in a way she almost reminded the older woman of Elijah from earlier… ”Hey, where did ya find those strange Pokemon at? Like that fox thing n’ that weird lookin’ Linoone?” Zoey couldn’t stop herself from asking aloud, tilting her head curiously, ”I ain’t ever seen anythin’ like those ‘round here or anywhere else in the world that I know of.” Luna seemed to be in thought as she looked back towards the redhead, taking a moment to process what was being asked before breaking out into a bright grin.”Oh! Silly me, I guess I didn’t tell ya that I’m actually not from around here, though I guess ya figured that out yourself already,”she piped up, taking a moment to adjust her black cap,”I actually come from a far off land full o’ wonder n’ excitement known as Galar! It don’t seem like a lotta other folks I’ve come across have ‘eard of it, though, least not ‘round these parts from the looks o’ it.”
Galar… Oh right! Zoey vaguely remembered hearing the name being brought up a few times before, a couple of Russ’s bar buddies that they hung out with on Friday nights in Mauville had mentioned that they’d immigrated to Hoenn from Galar years back. Even so, she’d never even seen a map of the region or any Pokemon that were actually native to Galar, until now at least. ”Huh, y’know I actually have heard of it, but I never really knew much ‘bout it in general apart from just the name,” she said, a warm smile crossing her face, ”Looks like I just got a new vacation destination to add to my bucket list~” That settled it, she was definitely going to have to get out to Galar while she was taking a respite from her island challenge to do some sightseeing. She really wanted to do some more exploring and get to better know more of the regions she wasn’t as familiar with, and score some more gym badges in the process of course.”Oh, well ya definitely should! Galar’s a place that ya absolutely should experience for yourself at least once in your lifetime, if I say so m’self!”Luna declared proudly, reaching into her bag and pulling out more Pokeballs as she flashed a challenging grin,”But anyways enough lift pitchin’ for now, I’ve got more Galarian Pokemon to show ya if you wanna see. On the condition that you give me a rematch, of course!”
Zoey chuckled under her breath, she wasn’t sure what it was about this kid, but she was growing to like her quite a bit. ”Don’t know when to give up, do ya?” she reciprocated jokingly, gesturing for Gunnar to take center stage once more for battle, ”But sure, kid, let’s see what else ya got~” The first Pokemon Luna sent out this time was a Ponyta, yet another apparent Galar variant that looked more like a unicorn than its Kantonian brethren. Zoey couldn’t help marveling at its beautiful two-toned mane and tail and the glittering horn that adorned its head, she could only imagine how much more majestic the Galar version of Rapidash would be. However, she had a battle to focus on, and Gunnar wasted no time charging at the little pony with a Megahorn poised to strike.】☆ ☆

Luna snorted at that, a daring grin crossing her face.”Heh, we’ll see. As the minutes ticked by while they kept walking, it seemed like they were just going around in circles. Where was the Trial Captain at? Surely she had to be somewhere close by, they might as well have covered pretty much the entire jungle at the rate they were going. As they passed by a large clearing, however, Eir paused as she sniffed the air, an indescribable smell wafting its way through the area from somewhere in the near distance.”Hmm… smells like someone’s cooking something,”she spoke up, already feeling her mouth starting to water the more she smelled the peculiar aroma,”Something really good!”Zoey took a deep breath, and sure enough she could smell something delicious not too far from them. ”Well Mallow does have a restaurant over in Konikoni, so I’ve no doubt she’s busy cookin’ up something real good,” she said, trying to pinpoint the exact direction the origin of smell was coming from, ”Surely she’s close by then…”
Unbeknownst to them, it seemed something else had locked onto the smell of Mallow’s cooking as an enormous shadow slowly loomed out of the foliage behind them. Orpheus froze, sensing something was off, and quickly tapped Zoey’s shoulder to alert her. ”Eh? Oh…” was all she could say as she whirled around in time to spot the great form of the Totem Pokemon looming before them. The limited sunlight spilling in through the canopy highlighted the bright colors and sharp red eyes of the Totem Lurantis, almost making them glow among the shadows surrounding them. With a threatening hiss, the Totem raised its sickle-like hands and crossed them in front of itself in preparation for combat as a bright glowing aura flared around it, granting it an extra dose of strength. ”Heh, well alright then, let’s rumble!” Zoey declared, shaking off the initial shock and preparing herself for the imminent battle, ”Think ye can take it, Eir?” The Alolan Ninetales nodded, eagerly stepping forward to stand before the Totem in opposition, tails flared out and head lowered as she leapt forth to engage.】☆ ☆

☆ ☆【The battle was over almost as instantly as it had begun. It took only a couple of Blizzards to lay the Totem Lurantis low, the Grass-type hissing in pain and frustration as it was pelted and ultimately driven off by the harsh freezing wind and pounding snow. The Castform ally that it had summoned certainly had a run of bad luck as the second Blizzard completely froze it solid, leaving Eir to finish off the job as she knocked it away with a strong Moonblast attack. ”Huh, it’s over already?” Zoey couldn’t help voicing aloud, quite surprised at how quickly the battle had happened. Somehow… she had been expecting more of a challenge, then again with how much they’d been training plus using an Ice-type against a Grass-type maybe it shouldn’t have been surprising that they’d be able to take it out so easily. Even the rest of her Pokemon looked flabbergasted at how nearly effortless that battle had seemed.
From her perch on the woman’s shoulder, Hildegard’s wide eyes glinted with a spark of challenge as she took a moment to fully digest what had happened. She had been carefully observing her apparent new teammates closely to try and gauge their strengths during training, though it had apparently only seemed easy for them because they had been battling against Pokemon that were marginally weaker in comparison. But that giant Pokemon had seemed especially strong from its intimidating size and overwhelming aura, and yet Eir had made battling it so easy by knocking it out in only a couple attacks. Perhaps she would be worth keeping a close eye on from here on out…”Wowow, well that didn’t take long at all!”Eir chirped, seeming satisfied with her hard-won victory as she bounced back over to her trainer to heal up.
”Well we ain’t outta the woods yet… or the jungle in this case,” Zoey remarked with a smirk, pulling out potions and spraying the Ninetales down and pocketing the dimensional shard as the fox deposited it in her hand, ”Still if Mallow’s close by, it’s just a matter o’ tryin’ to pin her down so we can battle for her stamp.” Speaking of which… she heard rustling from somewhere behind them, and glanced over her shoulder in time to see a young girl with green hair pulled back into twin-tails step out from the brush. Mallow took a moment to brush off a few loose leaves that clung to her outfit before looking back up, an amiable smile lighting her face as she addressed them.”I thought I’d heard a battle going on over here! Looks like you really wasted no time defeating my Totem Lurantis, and my trial is usually quite a doozy for challengers,”the green-haired Trial Captain piped up, puffing out her cheeks as she held a hand to her chin thoughfully. That battle had almost seemed too easy for this trainer and her Ninetales... but oh well, they’d still won fair and square so there was no use dwelling on it for too long.
”But anyways, I believe you were looking for me?”Mallow asked with a warm smile, grabbing a Pokeball from her belt and readying to toss it,”I just got finished cooking up a batch of my famous Mallow Surprise, and I’d be glad to share some with you if you’d like to try a bite! After we have ourselves a nice battle to work up our appetites first, of course~”Well, Zoey couldn’t turn down that kind of invitation now, could she? Grinning widely, she nodded towards Eir, who wasted no time stepping forth and taking a stand in front of her trainer, tails fanned out once more in preparation to fight. ”Heh, I don’t see why not! I think ya’ve made us an offer we couldn’t possibly refuse,” she reciprocated, ”Hope yer ready to bring yer A game, cap’n!” Mallow chuckled as she nodded heartily in agreement, tossing forth the ball in her hand to unleash her first Pokemon,”Well be careful what you wish for! Let’s go, Trevenant!”The Pokeball immediately burst open as it hit the ground, revealing the form of the tall, many-legged elder tree Pokemon. The Trevenant’s singular red eye met Eir’s intent gaze, narrowing in challenge as it let out a low growl and bared its enormous claws. Zoey watched their opposition carefully, knowing that Grass-types in particular liked to take advantage of status conditions where they could to weaken and overwhelm their opponents. ☆ ☆【The battle against Mallow presented a bit more of a challenge than the Totem fight, Zoey certainly had to admit that much. She had admittedly been a touch nervous when the captain’s Lurantis kept healing itself with Synthesis in the final stretch. Thankfully with Gunnar laying hard into the offensive strikes it was only a few turns until Mallow ordered her mantis to attack instead, since the only thing using Synthesis repeatedly would accomplish was delaying the inevitable as it was gradually worn down with Megahorn. That and there wasn’t any point in trying to drag the battle out for far longer than was necessary, which Zoey was certainly thankful for. ”Aw yeah! Another leg o’ our island challenge accomplished!” the redhead declared with a grin, pumping her fist in celebration at their hard won victory. Gunnar was happy to share his new trainer’s sentiment, mimicking the gesture with just as much gusto as he buzzed with determination.”Phew, you and your team are definitely something! Well done, everyone!”Mallow chimed in with a grin as she returned her now fainted Lurantis, approaching Zoey with a smile as she pressed her stamp into the woman’s trial book,”You’ve earned this for sure!”
Zoey smiled proudly as she eyed her latest addition, closing her book and stowing it back into her bag as Mallow pulled out an HM and a green Z-Crystal to hand over.”That Grass-type Z-move is pretty neat, huh? Here, I’ll show you how to do it again so you can unleash your own Pokemon’s Z-powered potential with that Grassium Z! You go like ‘Graaaaaassss!’, okay?”Zoey watched closely as Mallow demonstrated the dance she’d done before, committing it to her memory as with all of the other dances she’d seen. She probably should try to make some use of all these Z-crystals she was getting sometime, being able to deal a shitload of damage to a single target could come in handy. Hell, maybe she could try outfitting Lukas with that Firium Z when they were strong enough to go up against Molayne next since Fire would be one of their primary counters to his Steel types. ”Heh, y’all weren’t half bad either, put up a pretty good fight to the very end,” Zoey remarked in kind. She was thankful that there hadn’t been any casualties on their side this time like when they’d fought Kiawe, but Mallow’s battle was challenging in its own right. Maybe this was why a lot of folks who went on their island challenge ended up struggling in the Lush Jungle especially… ”Now then, I believe ya’d mentioned somethin’ ‘bout free food?” she asked, the smell of the freshly cooked Mallow Special still lingering in the air around them. Quite a bit of time had gone by since breakfast, and Zoey certainly wasn’t going to turn down a free meal!
Mallow was happy to take them back towards her little kitchen site in a nearby clearing, where a cauldron full of what seemed to be a bubbling hot stew sat simmering atop a small cooking fire. Zoey and her team dug in as the green-haired captain dished out portions, cheerfully encouraging them to take seconds if they wanted since it would be some time before the Totem came back to have some. The redhead shared small talk with the trial captain, unable to help but snicker a bit as Mallow talked about Kiawe and Lana making up excuses to get out of trying her food after she’d ended up making the Mallow Special a bit too spicy for them one time. Well it’s their loss! With full bellies and content smiles, Zoey and her team bid farewell to the trial captain as they made their way back out of the jungle. ”Alright, now that’s done it’s off to Konikoni with us for one last fight against Kahuna Olivia, then it’s vacation time,” Zoey said, returning all of her Pokemon save for Piper and Orpheus, ”Y’all ready to head out then?”
Piper nodded, bending down so that her trainer and teammate could climb aboard, though paused as she heard movement in the brush nearby, ears perked and alert as she looked over. ”Hm? Somethin’ the matter, Pipes?” the redhead asked, turning to follow the Noivern’s tense gaze just as another Pokemon materialized from the brush. Much to Zoey’s surprise and curiosity, said Pokemon turned out to be an Espeon which was definitely not native to the jungle. Even more curious was that the Espeon looked a fair bit different, its fur being a darker blue-violet instead of the light lavender hue as was typical, even the normally red gem on its forehead was a golden yellow in a sort of complementary contrast with its cool-colored coat. Upon spotting them, the Espeon’s eyes narrowed as she dropped into a fighting position, golden gem flashing in preparation to unleash an attack.”AHA! En garde, ya ruffians! I’ve just ‘bout had enough o’ all ye mooks tryin’ to catch n’ battle me, so ya best get out mah way or it’ll get real ugly, y’hear!”the Espeon called out challengingly, her telepathic voice laced with a hint of what sounded like a vaguely Scottish burr. Tail lashing in a clearly agitated fashion, bright purple energies gathered around the golden gem on her forehead as she prepared to let loose with a strong Psychic. ”Whoa whoa, hey now!” Zoey called out, holding her hands up surrender, ”Where’s the fire, eh? We ain’t lookin’ for any trouble, so no need to go ‘bout startin’ any, alright?” The irritated Espeon faltered at the woman’s defensive reaction, tilting her head and narrowing her eyes skeptically as the building psychic energies fizzled out. Upon realizing that neither the trainer nor her Pokemon were making any move to try to attack in return, the Psychic-type let herself relax as she sucked in a breath and exhaled loudly in relief.”I see… My apologies for my boorish behavior just now, I’ve been having somewhat of a rough go of trying to find my way around here ever since I found myself in this strange place,”the Espeon said, ears flattened as she bowed her head apologetically,”Suppose I should at least give you the benefit of the doubt since you’re the first trainer I’ve come across who didn’t immediately try to lob a Pokeball at me, so thank you for that.”Now that she was calm and had taken a moment to compose herself, her voice sounded smoother and more eloquent. The accent that had been there before was still somewhat present, though it wasn’t quite as obvious now as it’d been before.
”Uh, yer welcome, I guess,” Zoey said, slowly lowering her arms as the heat of the moment had passed, ”So ya mentioned tryin’ to find yer way outta here, yeah? Did somethin’ happen?” The Espeon hummed and nodded, tilting her head upwards briefly as she scanned the canopy above.”Indeed. I was actually on my way to a nearby city here in Alola to rendezvous with a newly assigned client of mine,”she explained, brow furrowing in thought,”Seems something must have gone wrong during transit, however, as I apparently ended up waking up in this jungle area instead with my cabbie nowhere to be seen.”The woman pursed her lips as she thought over the Psychic type’s words. ”What, so yer like an agent or somethin’?” she asked, ”Why are ya here in Alola then?” The Espeon gave her a brief sidelong glance, as if evaluating her, before turning her full attention to the redhead.”I suppose there’s no harm in telling you, then. My codename is Gemini, I’m an agent hailing from the Galarian branch of Interpol being sent in to investigate criminal activities all over the world,”she answered, dipping her head politely,”A pleasure to meet you, miss…?””Zoey. Zoey Larsson,” the trainer was quick to fill in, ”Ya mentioned headin’ to some nearby city around here, yeah? We were just gettin’ ready to head outta here so yer welcome to come with if ya want. Maybe we can find where yer missin’ ride got off to along the way.”
The Espeon’s ears perked up at the offer, after trekking around in this jungle for what felt like hours not having any idea of where she was going she obviously wasn’t going to refuse.”Of course!”she declared with perhaps a bit more enthusiasm than intended, pausing momentarily and shaking her head a bit as she quickly reeled in her composure,”Ahem… I mean it would be greatly appreciated, thank you. Here, you may take my Pokeball for the time being.”As she spoke, she padded closer to Zoey, tilting her head up to reveal the small collar around her neck with what looked like a little black case attached to it. Clicking it open with a button on the side, a Pokeball lay inside the case with the shape of a small silver ‘G’ engraved into it which the woman took. Zoey placed the new ball on her belt for safekeeping, turning back towards her Pokemon as the Espeon brushed past her to get a closer look at her apparent new ride.”Hm, not bad. I’m certain you’re a far more adept flyer than my cabbie at the very least,”Gemini mused as she gave Piper a cursory once-over, chuckling softly,”Not that I can fault him, he’s still very much a rookie in training and this was his first flight to anywhere outside of Galar. I just hope he’s alright, wherever he is.”All things considered, she should’ve expected for something to go wrong at some point… Ah, but there was no helping it, all she could do now was get to her intended destination safely and try to find where that birdbrain had gotten off to in the meantime. Piper gave a soft, happy warble at the Espeon's compliment, offering a small reassuring smile."I-I'm sure he's f-fine, wh-wherever he m-might be,"she chipped in, unsure of what else to say but hoping her sentiments got across well enough regardless. Gemini simply stared at her for a moment as she briefly processed the words, then smiled and nodded in agreement before climbing up and settling herself atop the Noivern's back.
With everything apparently now in order, Zoey and Orpheus took their seats aboard Piper, the woman pointing out the general direction of Konikoni City and promising the anxious dragon she’d help guide her along the way. Spreading her wings and double-checking to ensure her passengers were settled in and comfortable, the Noivern took to the air, heading onwards as they quickly left the Lush Jungle well behind them.】☆ ☆

The unfortunate thing about training was… it was boring. And while his team was capable enough to handle things on their own, it left Sullivan with little to do. Fortunately, as though sensing his freedom, his communicator vibrated to life. Quickly he snagged it from his pocket a smile blooming as he read the message.
Levi: Well, well, well if it ain' Mr Wonder Sul. I'm alright, you? How's the island challenge going? You a champ yet?
Sullivan’s face scrunched up in amused embarrassment. Levi was one to give… well, terrible nicknames. And that was one of them. It was probably a blessing he was deaf because he was never in danger of having to hear any of the nicknames shouted across a crowded room. Or well, he wouldn’t know it happened until someone told him. And by then, well that initial embarrassment was long since passed. Sullivan tried to mull over a terrible nickname he could retort with this time when another message that pinged in after the last.
Levi: Also, yea absolutely we should meet up! Sydney hasn' seen his favorite uncle in a long while. You should be ashamed. ;D
Now that made his cheeks go red. Had it really been that long? Levi was the only one in the expansive family of siblings that was married and had a kid; an adorable little boy with enough energy to power a power plant. Sullivan had never really thought about being an uncle (he’d never thought he’d be part of a huge family either) but he’d embraced it wholeheartedly when Sydney was around.
Which made it all the more shameful to think about. It had been a while since he’d seen both Levi or his family. They were adults though, busy people with lives of their own but still. He let the heat subside and quickly composed a message of his own.
I'm alright, except for that name. I'm okay, not a champion yet but I'm working towards the fourth seal and totem. It's been that long? Really? I'm sorry, I guess his dad's just been too busy. I'll make it up to him though; when would you want to meet. I've got Inoke with me, so I can make it anywhere. Just let me know.
And sent. Admittedly, Sullivan hoped the answer would be ‘soon’. It was nice to reconnect with family, though it was briefly soured at the reminder of his time with his mother not too long ago. He hadn’t heard back from her yet, but she was more than likely tending to the younger children. The guilt from losing his temper still lingered in the back of his mind; he’d need to find a way to make it up to her…

Her mood already foul, Jinx touched down in a random jungle, on some island she'd never heard of, far more irritated than before, and it had everything to do with the quality of missions being sent her way. If stealing a secret weapon was a C+ (its ending dropping its original A score), then flying all the way to another region to collect specific fauna and flora was an F, and there was still more than enough time for that grade to drop even lower. From member of the weapons department, to probationary field agent, and now a simple sample collector, Jinx could feel her rank slipping. When she'd spoken to him, Kaeden had insisted that wasn't the case, however, and it was simply a task of convenience: she had just completed her own mission, freeing her up to take on another (though to call this a 'mission' was a heavy overstatement), and she had the means of getting to this Alola place easily. Jinx was inclined to believe him, because she believed everything he said, but her irritation hadn't dissipated.
No, it had settled in and festered, until she was stomping across the leafy grounds of some jungle with her head bent down to glare at the screen of the small electronic given to her. Before she'd arrived in Alola she'd made a pit stop to pick up a device that would 'assist her in her collection'. The finer details had been intentionally tuned out, but she had listened enough to understand the gist of the machine: it was a tracking device, that utilized already implanted DNA to gave an accurate reading of the proximity between the user and the current target; the closer you got, the louder, and obnoxious, the beeping became.
And it was loud. Ignoring everything else around her, Jinx had stomped her way to a rather large tree and now stood underneath it, head finally tilting up. According to the device, she was supposed to be collecting an 'uncommon' Applin. But... what the hell was an Applin? And what made it so uncommon— "GAH!" From up above the tree's branches shuddered as something dropped down, and with deadly accuracy slammed onto the tracker, ripping it from Jinx's grasp and slamming it to the ground with a discerning crack. Startled, she jumped back, heart in her throat, away from the base of the tree before setting a glare onto the object that had fallen from the skies, and undoubtedly damaged the tracker.
It was an... apple, an apple whose top-leaves shuddered and blinked up at her before checking the area around it. She deadpanned, all emotion slipping from her visage, and without a word she released Sphene. An applin was a kind of pokemon, some sort of weird... freaky, pokemon. It wasn't an especially weird concept to wrap her head around — pokemon were weird, and you just had to accept that at some point — but by the time she had, Sphene had already defeated the fruit... creature, and unintentionally tossed it off the tracker. One halfhearted toss of a pokeball later and she'd caught the pokemon, as requested, like the good little 'sample collector' she now was.
With a cautionary glance up at the tree, Jinx reapproached the base of the tree to retrieve the tracker, assessing the damage in the process. A large crack now split the screen in half, where a shuddering image could still be seen. So, at the very least, it could still turn on. She bent down to pick it up, a huff escaping her lips, only to have the rest of her breath driven out of her body as an electric current shot up her fingers and up her body. A strangled yelp was all she could manage, the half grip she'd had on the electronic loosening as her body involuntarily convulsed, sending it careening away from her, and she fell onto her back.
Certainly, she'd experienced worse, and the shock, thankfully, hadn't been powerful enough to be fatal, and yet several seconds passed with nothing more than the light twitching of her right hand (the hand she'd used to try and pick the tracker up). Thoughts momentary scattered, she stared, unfocused, up at the bits and pieces of sky that could be seen through the canopy of trees.
The shock had been just the conductor needed to transform her irritation into quiet rage. Today wasn't a day for mission success.
