Wela Volcano Park is a park built around the volcano of Akala Island. The top of the active volcano is where Kiawe will accept challenges for his stamp, and where the Totem Pokémon Salazzle dwells for those looking to complete island challenges.

Trial #3: Wela Volcano Park
Trials do not need to be done in order, require 15 wild pokemon encounter posts to initiate, and reward one dimensional shard upon completion. You must roll for the attacks of both the Totem, and any allies it has out, unless specific attacks are listed for certain rounds. Whoever goes first is pre-determined and fixed, and cannot be changed by items or stat changes. This is to make things a bit more challenging for the easier trials, and easier for the more difficult ones.
Trial Pokemon cannot be caught, and Totem pokemon cannot be one-hit K.O.ed, and have Totem Aura, which gives them individual boosts to certain stats. These boosts will be stated for each totem. The totem pokemon give out set exp, however, the total experience earned per battle depends on how many pokemon are earned, and how long the battle takes, and EXP Items do not effect EXP earned from these battles. When you have completed a trial, please quote a mod for approval.
PLEASE NOTE: This system is very much in beta. There's no real way to test it that wouldn't hold things up, so we roughed this out to put out with the rest of the guild. As issues arise (trials being too easy, or too difficult), we will make adjustments. This means that if you are one of the first people doing the trials, you should be aware that other people may have to work harder, or may have it easier, depending on the trial, and the adjustments we make. Please know this going in, so that there's a reduced chance of hard feelings or accusations of things being 'unfair'. We're trying out best.

-5 rp posts are required, then roll an 6-sided dice. This will determine the Pokemon that appears. In the next post, roll a 4-sided dice to determine level of the wild Pokemon. Only certain pokemon can ask for help. If you encounter one fo these pokemon and choose to activate the SOS system, it will cost you 1 encounter post per SOS pokemon summoned (max of three per battle). You must then roll for which pokemon is summoned, and what the level of that pokemon is. Only one pokemon can be summoned at a time
Sweat was already forming on his brow as Sullivan made his way up the mountain side. This wasn’t his first time around a volcano but that didn’t stop the heat all the same. From the raging lava in the mountain to the bright sun up above, there was really no solace to be found to avoid it.
There were ledges that extended just enough to cast shade, though those were far and few between. It took a little bit of travelling up before he finally managed to find a spot of grass that also coincided with the shade provided. Perfect. He didn’t hesitate to hide out in the shadows a moment, tugging off his sweater shirt and tying it around his waist to eliminate a layer. It was honestly a relief, not that he expected it to last long. All the same he could focus for a bit on training and not dying of heat exposure.
He strutted about the grass, shuffling carefully in and out though it wasn’t from below that the first challenge appeared, but above. Junpei looked up and gave a bark as something swooped above them, the man noticing the Rockruff’s commotion and looking up to see what it was about. A Fletchling; not exactly what he expected but… well it worked. This would be a great challenge for the Flygon he’d acquired; and a chance to learn about his new pokemon. He unleashed the creature, staring at it a moment as its head shook about and it gave a yawn. The goggle-sporting dragon came too and directed a head-tilted gaze at the man before him, curiosity evident on its face.
Sullivan grinned and raised a hand to wave, the pokemon’s brow furrowing a little before it gave a semi0squeaky roar in response. Junpei barked to get the pokemon’s attention and it gave the rock hound an odd look as well. New faces were odd to encounter apparently and Sullivan took the moment to point at the bird hiding up on one of the ledges, pointing to the Flygon and making a sort of “fighting’ gesture. The dragon stared at him a moment, head tilting this way and that before its attention was distracted by the Fletchling flying down to harass him. It didn’t seem the pokemon need any further prompting to lash out in attack.

The Fletching flapped its wings psychotically as rocks were sent tumbling down upon its head. Sullivan watched the tiny bird flee off back into the wild, uncertain how to feel about the take down. It’d seemed a bit like overkill though the bird had clearly been tough by default. Flygon gave a vapid flap of his wings as he watched the bird flutter off, giving a sort of narrowed stare before redirecting his gaze to his trainer.
Sullivan was still staring after the bird, only catching the look out of the corner of his eye. He looked to the dragon, expression a mix of uncertain displeasure. He wasn’t quite sure how to communicate that the excessive force was… well excessive. The Flygon didn’t look like he’d meant it though and instead maintained staring at the man oddly as though trying to figure out what his deal was.
At least that was before another Fletchling flew from out of nowhere and attempted to assault him. He gave a yip of surprise and glared at the bird, immediately throwing rocks in its direction in retaliation. Well if there was anything Sullivan was picking up, it was that this thing was a fighter…

Sullivan couldn’t help but make a face. Wow, Flygon was really going at those Fletchlings and … well he still wasn’t sure how to feel about it. The rock throwing was crazy and he saw one go flying off in a direction that was not the same way as the opponent. Flygon seemed frustrated, agitated wing flaps kicking up dirt and ash around him. The young man frowned, stepping forward and slowly offering a flat palm out towards the dragon. The creature stopped in his actions, eyes narrowing on the man and his offering. What did he want? What was this?
Sullivan kept his hand out; expression calm yet set with a sternness that suggested while he understood the pokemon’s frustration, he didn’t approve of the over reactive measures he took in response to said feelings. There was a time and place for power; this was not it. Needlessly throwing rocks about in a fury would solve nothing but to agitate the wildlife further and incur the wrath of something either of them were prepared to deal with.
Flygon stared long and hard at the extended hand. There was nothing but silence between the two; something that wasn’t anything but ordinary for Sullivan. It persisted before finally the creature moved a forward to press his muzzle against the palm of his trainer’s hand. The wave of tension in his body persisted for a moment before finally subsiding as the creature relaxed, a smile blossoming across the man’s face at the acceptance. He stepped forward and gently continued to rub Flygon on the head, glancing about to assure that there would be no ambushes as he tried to soothe the creature. The last thing he wanted to be was in the direct line of fire of a rogue wild pokemon and an instantly enraged dragon. That wouldn’t end well…

Luckily, there were no further ambushes and Flygon could relax for a bit, exploring their surroundings for a bit. Sullivan opted to do the same, careful to avoid the grass to prevent provoking any further pokemon attacks. There wasn’t much to search out in this place, to be honest. There was grass and lava and rocks and… well that was about the range of excitement.
Sullivan gave a huff, swiping sweat from his brow and swapping his hair back and out of his eyes before continuing to explore the area. It seemed bland… until he noticed odd movement in a bush nearby. Another pokemon? He frowned and stood still, watching as a tiny little lizard shimmied its way out into the open.
A Salandit? Oh, well that wasn’t uncommon; though for a moment he was concerned that it might spot him and attack. Sure enough, it did catch wind of the stranger nearby, perking up and staring at him inquisitively. Sullivan squinted, noticing something was off. Was the pokemon… carrying something? A gem? It was purplish in appearance and its look reminded him much of the Z crystals that he’d received from his previous challenges.
So why did it have one? It wasn’t common for them to carry one, right? Not that he was privy to how Z crystals came into existence in the first place, nor how they came to be in the possession of trial champions or even kahunas. It was kind of an odd thing to consider and maybe when he had a moment, he’d inquire just to make sure that pokemon weren’t thieving them or that it was the other way around (the bigwigs wouldn’t do something like that would they? He certainly hoped not.)

In the meantime, the Salandit was staring right back at Sullivan with the same level of intrigue that the young man was sending his way. It noted the rather large lizard creature hovering just behind him and the Rockruff just at his heels, watching the Salandit with a more studious gaze.
They didn’t seem to want to give him trouble; which was good because that wasn’t what he was looking for. He was trying to find where the group of Salandits he’d been travelling with had disappeared too. They’d been all herded together one moment and then BOOM everyone was gone! And instead he found himself staring off with some weird guy with blue hair (why was his hair blue?) and his weird pokemon who conveniently seemed to be rock and ground based.
Actually, that was rather unnerving, but the Salandit didn’t seem to let it get to him. Instead, his long snout twitched in Sullivan’s direction, still holding the crystal between his hands. Sullivan’s head titled just a bit, glancing back at Junpei and Flygon briefly before he focused more on the rogue pokemon. He took a couple of steps towards the pokemon slowly, who didn’t seem to flinch at all at the approach. Well it seemed friendly, which was always a good start.

Sullivan knelt before the Salandit, a good foot or two between them just to be on the safe side. He was aware of their poison-fire combo and had no desire to get a face full of toxic smog or have his hair set a flame. The Salandit didn’t seem alarmed nor poised to commit any of these acts. Instead, he just kept staring, crystal, and a little stick (Sulli finally noticed) in his tiny hands. It was impressive, seeing him carrying stuff like that.
Tilting his head, Sulli raised a hand and gave the pokemon a little wave. The lizard stared, head tilting the same way as the blue haired mans. What an… odd fellow. The two stared at one another for a minute or two before the lizard shuffled a little closer to inspect. Sulli was caught off guard by the action; that was… certainly unexpected. Salandit’s weren’t… friendly by any means and he stiffened a moment at the thought that it might’ve been a trick. When there wasn’t a sudden murder cloud blurted into his face, he thought otherwise and reached his hand out closer.
The Salandit studied the offered extremity a moment, head still titling every which way before he seemed to… sniff it? It looked like sniffing. If he could’ve heard it, Sullivan would’ve caught the uneasy low rumbles of a growl emitting from Junpei. The Salandit noticed, gave the Rockruff a single glance and then right back to his interested inspection of Sullivan’s hand. Clearly, he didn’t care about the eminent danger if something befell the pokemon’s trainer. What a great way to proceed.

The sniffing hand shake went on for well over a minute, by which point Sullivan was relatively relaxed. Clearly, he’d lucked out and found the friendlier of the Salandits, though his gaze remained on the items in the creature’s paws. What were they for? He recognized the crystal but the stick was a question to be answered. He lowered his hand a moment and gestured to the stick, trying to see if he could get the lizard to give it to him.
The Salandit, who’s head tilting observations were now canon, repeated the gesture before looking between the stick and Sullivan’s outreached hand. He seemed to contemplate his options and bracing for an assault, Sullivan shut his eyes. Soon though, he felt something pressing into the palm of his hand. He opened his eyes and peered over, blinking as the stick was there. The Salandit still held tightly to the Z crystal; it seemed he was willing to give up the stick but not the crystal.

Sullivan took the offering and looked it over, even giving it a light sniff. It had a sort of earthy smell to it, like various flower scents combined into one. If he had to give a comparison, it was like one of the meadows dotted around Alola, bathed in numerous flowers that grass and bug pokemon of all types seemed to favor as their homes. An incense?
He’d seen select stores that carried these little sticks, though none had the scent like this one had. The blue-haired man considered his options for a moment, looking back at the Salandit curiously. Why did the little creature have these things in the first place? Had he pilfered some other trainer of their goods? A store? Or just found them? It was all very questionable.
Glancing over his shoulder back at Junpei, he gave the Rockruff a reassuring nod. It was clear this was one of the more… ‘friendly’ Salandit and soon Sullivan was getting back to his feet, incense still in hand. He was still curious about it, flipping it between his fingers. Maybe he could light it? See what came along?

After some more consideration, Sullivan decided to test his theory that there was something to this little stick that he’d claimed from the Salandit. He turned around to dig in his bag, recovering a lighter from his goods and after a few flicks, a little blue flame bounced to light. Junpei eyed the situation curiously, padding forward a bit and nudging the man to collect his attention. The man gave a gentle grin and a little nod of assurance at the puppy before he lit the stick.
The Salandit was watching curiously, even shambling over a bit to take a sniff as the stick was lit. Sullivan eyed the creature a moment before snapping the lighter shut and returning it to his full height. He waved the stick through the air to disperse the scent before waiting to see what happened.
It didn’t take long though. He didn’t need to hear sounds to notice the sudden shaking of life that the grass took on. His gaze narrowed as a bug waddled out to confront them; a Grubbin. He recognized the bug as one of the more native species on the islands and it clearly looked to be sniffing something out. Sullivan tilted his head, considering his options before unleashing Mana.
The Dartrix hardly looked interested in being out and ignored her trainer’s initial sign motions to assault the bug. At least that was until the Grubbin tried to make a move only for Junpei to jump in a deal with the threat.

As the next Grubbin was dispatched, Mana gave an irritated hoot at the Rockruff. She didn’t know what he was trying to do but if he was going to be disposing of all the bugs than he was more than welcome too. In fact, she didn’t know why their trainer had bother to summon her out if this was going to be what happened. It wasn’t long though before Sullivan stepped in and signed at the hound in a sort of ‘stop’ manner. He pointed at Mana, twiddling the incense between his fingers before another Grubbin appeared. It took Mana a moment to realize that this time, she would be doing battle and with an annoyed hoot, she went to work against the bug begrudgingly.
