Finally, the little group paused as Sullivan directed his attention Kohei as he dispatched another Grubbin. Hani came to a stop right next to his heels, looking up curiously at the blue-haired man as he maneuvered over and tapped the Flygon on the head. The mystic pokemon turned a goggled gaze to the man, a sort of annoyed look in his eyes. Sullivan gave a pointed gesture at the Flygon before thrusting a thumb to point at the Rockruff who had scampered up next to him. A simple enough gesture to indicate that a switch out was occurring.
Of course, Kohei seemed displeased with this, giving a huff, and puffing his cheeks in agitation. Sullivan stared at the odd response; was this pouting? Was he about to have to deal with another pokemon with attitude problems? This adventure certainly wasn’t turning out the way he was expecting. He refrained letting out a heavy sigh, instead just retrieving his pokemon’s pokeball and returning him for the time being. He wasn’t going to try and play friendly with this, not now.

Which meant soon enough, it would be dead and done, serving its purpose of… summoning a bunch of Grubbin. Admittedly, Sullivan was a bit disappointed with the lack luster variation that he earned. Sure, Grubbin were a little more common in the grassy areas, but he was certain there were other types of bugs to be witnessed. Maybe they just didn’t like volcanoes as much as the Grubbin did? Honestly, Sullivan would need to take some time to just sit down and connect with his team. There were attitudes, communication barriers and just issues galore that realistically, if he didn’t handle now, would probably bite him in the a** later. So on a volcano, it was probably safe to assume that there would be fire involved. With Kohei and Kairi, he had type advantage technically. Fishing out his pokedex, Sullivan took a moment to check the move sets of his pokemon. That was going to be important, going in with what was strong. He could stand to do a little re-configuring before he went much further and after a little searching, found a small patch of water to unleash Kairi in. You would think you didn’t need to teach a pokemon who practically lived their life in water how to surf, but Sullivan didn’t question it and just proceeded to provide her with a better water move before returning here. He had a couple of other TMs to use but Hani was already well equipped (much to his surprise) and Ulani… she could probably stand a little more training before he gave her stronger moves. Of course, he didn’t want to subject her to the heat. She could be released later, once they were off the mountain (Assuming he didn’t need to call on her for battle) and then, he could teach her a thing or two. Honestly, of every one of his new pokemon, she seemed the most eager to learn and he appreciated that. Given the rough beginning, he would have expected her to have the attitude, not Mana. Sullivan shook his head and focused on the task at hand. He returned Hani and Kohei with little argument (though the Flygon looked less than pleased to be returned) before turning his attention to Junpei as he finished off yet another Grubbin. At this point, the incense was no longer active, and Sullivan took a quick whiff just to confirm that the scent was all but gone before disposing of the item. He knelt and patted Junpei on the head as the pokemon approached before turning his focus to the path ahead. Junpei immediately recognized where their next destination was, giving a little yip of confirmation (mostly for himself) before taking up the lead and beginning to guide himself and trainer further up the volcano.

The remaining trek up the mountain volcano was uneventful. There were no more attacks, no more random visits from wild pokemon to challenge them, no random encounters that would cause trouble. It was just peaceful, a time to reflect on the upcoming challenge. Not that Sullivan really did that. He was more interested in other little random thoughts that kept sprouting to mind as he tried to keep himself distracted from the heat.
He and Junpei came to a pause though as they finally reached the top, staring curiously at the sign that marked the beginning of the trial area. Of course, Sullivan didn’t quite see anything that seemed ‘trial’ worthy. His head craned about as to try and find an indicator to initiate the challenge, spotting what appeared to be an odd looking little bell mechanism just below the sign. Sullivan tilted his head a moment. What was that?
He glanced at Junpei, who was on alert of his own, before strolling forward and eye balling the bell. He was half tempted to ring it, but if his past experiences had taught him anything, it was that doing so was likely to begin a battle. He needed to make sure he was ready for that. So, he took a step back and dropped to his knees and digging in his bag to make some final preparations. Whatever came his way, he wanted to make sure he could handle it correctly.
