Lafayette eyed the offered water, staring a long moment before finally reaching out and taking it. "… Ta sheila," he muttered, shifting a little bit to get himself in a reasonable position to take a solid swig. He would’ve downed half the bottle in that instance if he wasn’t lying down and at risk of like choking in the process. Still though, it was refreshing and he gave a lip-smack and a sigh of relief. Who knew chilled water could be so damn good?
Listening quietly, Lafayette made a bit of a face at Mel’s admission. Well he certainly hoped she didn’t enjoy being called a cheater; then again there were some who wore it like a badge of honor. He looked surprised as Mel offered up a corn dog though. For him? Staring at it, he became even more aware of his hunger and had to kind of stop himself from drooling in response. His gaze narrowed though as she continued; was that… a challenge? Like, to fight? Heh that was… hilarious. He snickered tiredly, quiet a moment before reaching out and snapping up the corn dog.
"Jus’ like I don’ need both arms ta beat yeh at swimmin’ sheila," he remarked in a teasing fashion before promptly chomping half the corn dog, taking just a moment of silence to chew it thoughtfully. He swallowed and considered a moment, giving Mel a weary look. "… Mahbeh… we’ll blue it out next time sheila. I ain’ got it in me," he conceded, though his tone still hinted to a stubborn pride that didn’t approve of him doing so. He’d have happily duked it out right there and then, in fact he’d have preferred it just went down that way. But even he had to admit… he was tired and hungry and not in the best shape to fight. And if he was going to throw down, he was going to do it at top condition just like he’d have expected his opponent to do.
Instead he just finished off the corn dog with another chomp, swallowing and pointing the stick at her. "Still take yeh up on that swim though, think I can manage that… can yeh get yeh rock slug off meh? I’m hungreh now…"

Mel smiled a little at Lafayette's surprisingly come back. "I wouldn' think you'd need two arms for much of anything, Lala," she replied back quite sincerely. The smile returned the lighter tone, but the remark came off like an honest comment. She waved a hand. "I would have assumed tomorrow, anyway," she clarified. She didn't exactly expect him to get up and fight her after being out in the sun, squished, for pretty much two hours or so. Maybe more-- she hadn't really been watching the time.
... Or at least, she didn't expect him to do that and actually put up much of a fight. She wouldn't put it past him to try, if he was angry enough.
Her eyebrows raised at his added suggestion, though. "Now?" she asked in surprise. She'd thought they were doing that tomorrow, too.... Huh. She shifted and moved onto her knees, putting Kiwi back off her lap, and folding up the now empty plate, as she finished her corndog. "You go' ed," she said, the last of her corndog in her mouth as she climbed to her feet. She bit it off as she pulled the stick from her mouth, gesturing to Z, who easily slid off, glancing back at the two, and then looking back towards the ocean. "Corndog didn' fill you, I take it?" she asked, reaching a hand out to take the stick, and add it to her trash. She could.... honestly probably give this stuff to Phia to "eat", but she wasn't sure the fire bug really deserved that at this point...
Speaking of her pokemon, she looked over, noticing that Lucy had happily joined Noah in going over to the ocean and looking for shells (after just a bit of hesitancy at noticing the size of the ocean). The fire type, of course, kept to the shore line, but she seemed genuinely intrigued by all the little bobbles they could find there.

The Aussie let out a laugh at the remark. "Oh yeh? You don’ think so?" He jeered; chances are other people wouldn’t agree with the idea and probably still be moping about the loss once reminded. He just found it amusing to consider though. He gave her a confused look though as she suddenly seemed surprised, sitting up and stretching a little once Z had vacated him spot of sitting on him. Oi, was he achy feeling.
He eyed her again and this time a bit of a snarky grin crossed his face. "Wha’ sheila? Yeh wanna go now, eh?" He remarked, eyebrow quirking as he gave her an expectant look. Did she mistake what he’d said for taking the challenge right now? Heh, well you know if she wanted to, he could. Probably lose, but he’d give it a shot. Snatching up the bottle he took another swig to finish it off before shaking his head. "Nah sheila. Tomorrah’. Feh sure." He cleared up as he got to his feet. Tomorrow, bright early in fact though he wasn’t focused enough to mention that.
"Pfff a’course not sheila! Wha’ do I look like, some magikarp? Can bog in some tucka’ like a Snorlax at this point." He commented, rubbing his stomach a bit. Like he needed about twelve more corn dogs or something before he could say he was ‘full’. Actually, just a proper meal would do him some good. Brushing sand from his back side (as best as he could with one arm) before glancing from Z and then to the pokemon wandering the shore line before finally looking back at Mel.
"… You still hungreh sheila?" He kind of doubted it but it was worth asking. Either way he was going to go find real food at this point as well as get out of the sun for a bit. He was done with the beach for the time being.
Noah was excitedly searching the shore with Lucy’s help, doing his best to bring shells from the water’s edge to show her so she could have a look. He paused only briefly to look at their trainers, perking up just a bit at the sight of Lafayette on his feet now. He looked down at the pile of shells he’d gone and gathered (both for Lucy to check out and to add to his collection maybe) before picking out one that he thought was particularly nice. Obviously keeping them all was a no go but he liked this one and wanted… to offer something as a present; an ‘I’m sorry’ kind of thing. He gave Lucy a quick chirp before quickly skipping his way over to the Aussie, slowing and approaching carefully. When it looked clear that he was calmer, he tugged on the man’s shorts again.
Lafayette frowned a little and looked down at the Dewott, staring as he offered up the shell towards him with a sort of ‘sorry’ kind of look. The Aussie was quiet, simply staring at the pokemon with a kind of mixed look, as though contemplating what to make of it. Finally he gingerly reached down and took it from the Dewott, holding it out at full arms length towards Mel. "... Can yeh check that sheila?"

Mel simply shook her head, keeping that honest, light smile on her face. She looked at him, confused, but now smiling again, in a quizzical manner, at Lafayette's apparent confusion, too. Had she misunderstood? Seemed like it. She nodded when he decided on tomorrow, a bit grateful. Not that she wasn't fully ready to take him on then and there, but honestly, she'd rather he be in better shape. Not so much for the challenge, like he would likely prefer, but so there was more grounds to the victory. So... maybe for the challenge? But in a different sort of way. She seemed to be still assuming she'd win, though she wasn't so arrogant that she disregarded the option that she wouldn't; she just felt she had pretty good cause to have some confidence.
"Alright," she agreed, stretching her arms over her head as she arched her back. She might not have been the one stuck under a pokemon all day, but just talking about exercise for a bit made her feel the need to stretch. "Sounds like a plan." She dropped her arms back to her side, placing one hand on her hip, and smirking a little at Lafayette's description of his own appetite. She turned to look over at the pokemon, but blinked at his question, looking back and considering. She gave a slow shrug. "Sort of. Still feel like I can eat," she admitted thoughtfully. She gave a gesture, smiling. "C'mon, we'll find a place to eat my treat. Payment for having my pokemon sit on you all day," she offered, giving a playful wink, before turning towards the pokemon as they approached.
Lucy came over and chittered at her, earning a curious look from her trainer, who, admittedly, did not understand a word-- but she was interested that the pokemon seemed so animated over the adventure. She looked over when she noticed Lafayette and Noah, though, frowning in concern initially. The man was staring at the dewott, and she was having a hard time reading his expression-- but she relaxed and almost sighed in relief when he took the shell. She had to control her smile so that she didn't outright grin when Lafayette handed the shell straight to her. "Sure," she offered graciously, taking it, and looking it over. She turned it in her palm, peered into the shell, ran her fingers over it and finally, gave it a gentle tap with her fingers, before handign it back out. "Looks like it's just a shell. Pretty though," she remarked.

Lafayette eyed Mel a moment and then gave his standard quirky grin, spirits beginning to return. His head titled to the side and he gave her a bit of a look at the confirmation that she was still a bit hungry and that she’d pay for the food. "Oh yeh Mello? Wha’, yeh ain’ paid enough today?" He remarked, giving a bit of a head jerk at the pokemon. Cheri had finally finished that ice cream cup of her so long ago, though had taken at some point to dismantling the cup to absently lick at the sides of the cardboard when she could. Actually, she was doing that vibrating thing again from having too much sugar… great.
"Kind of yeh though. If that’s wha’ it takes ta get free grub, then sure," he chuckled. Not that he’d ever want to go through that again; even with the promises of free food attached. It was still a bit of a sore spot, but for now he opted to just let it be so that things could proceed on. Instead he’d focus those feelings into the competition tomorrow; now that was where he needed the energy. Lafayette watched dubiously as Mel looked over the shell the Dewott had brought him. He was admittedly, concerned that it might be another pokemon that would suddenly lurch out and attack him for mishandling it; not something he needed with the already glorious bruise on his face. When the woman confirmed that it seemed to be safe though, he relaxed and took it back.
"Mmm… yeh… it is. Noah’s always got an’ eye for’em," he remarked thoughtfully which seemed to elicit a prideful look from the Dewott, his chest puffing out and his fists balling to rest on his hips. The Aussie didn’t miss it and rolled his eyes in response. "So mate, you keepin’ this?" Noah blinked and looked up at Lafayette in shock. He was asking him this time? Usually it took some work to convince hgim to let him add any to his crazy growing collection. Maybe it was the state of hunger and tiredness that made the man not want to argue. Noah looked hesitant, thinking am moment before giving and affirmative chirp.
"Roigh’ then…," Lafayette handed it back, giving the pokemon a bit of a hard look. "If it attacks, bettah be you." The Dewott looked confused but cheered all the same, holding the shell above his head in triumph before showing it to Lucy to see if she too approved of the choice. Lafayette watched wearily a moment before looking back at Mel, giving a jerk of his head as he started to walk. "Welp, let’s get chompin’ sheila." He said, looking towards the resort building. "Yeh wanna check the hotel? Bet it has a resto or somethin' good."

Mel followed Lala's indication, then scoffed, giving a gesture and a playful raise of her eyebrows. "You're more than welcome to decline..." she joked. She smiled without the slightest hint of disappointment when he accepted the offer, giving an approving nod. She honestly did not feel at all bad for what she'd done, but she did figure it was worth making up for to him. Plus, it would hopefully help the much more enjoyable, lighter atmosphere. Which, thankfully, managed to survive the little shell inspection. She handed it back with a smile, and though she forced her expression to remain essentially the same, her eyes lit up, and she breathed in a breath of relief as he not only praised his pokemon, but offered him a chance to keep the shell. She was careful not to give too much of a reaction, because she didn't want him thinking she was reading into it, but... she was. A bit. It was clear this wasn't his typical response, and Noah seemed to be surprised, but ultimately pleasantly so. It was nice to see, especially considering everything.
She lifted a hand to cover her face and hide the smile that she couldn't help when he gave his explanation to handing it back to Noah, but softened her smile as the pokemon cheered. Again, she had to refrain from saying anything. Instead, she turned, releasing Phia, and holding up the trash. "You eat this kind of stuff, Phia?" she asked. The pokemon eyed her, clearly a bit sour over being recalled earlier, then the objects. Her smoking increased, and Mel took that as a 'yes', tossing it down for the pokemon to roll over, and burn away. She turned back to Lala as he started off for food. "You got it," she agreed, glancing to Lucy. The monferno was distracted, looking at Noah's shell with interest, touching the shell curiously, and murmuring about it's appearance-- clearly, she approved. The pokemon looked up as her trainer called her name, though. "Mind pickin' up Phia and carryin' her once she's done with that?" she asked, gesturing to the pokemon, then turning to follow after Lafayette. Lucy blinked, looked at Phia, then after her trainer. She... could do that...
Mel shrugged as she walked along with Lafayette, folding her arms over her chest. "Sure, sounds good," she agreed, before giving a wry smile, "Really gonna bleed me dry on this payin' offer, aren't you?" She was obviously joking, though... foo, she was glad she wasn't too hungry, thinking about the possible prices such a nice joint might have.

It was odd to watch the little bulb just… burn it away and he was reminded that he still needed to check in with his other pokemon. Maybe that was something he’d consider after he got himself something to eat.
Noah grinned in pride as Lucy seemed to be just as enthralled with the shell as he was. You know, if he got the chance he’d have to show her the ones he’d collected overtime! There were a few just as nice as this once and he’d certainly be excited to share with someone who seemed interested; maybe even Mel would take an interest. He turned and looked at Z curiously, walking over and offering up the shell for the Zygarde to check out as well. Could he? It didn’t occur that Z didn’t seem to have eyes to look at.
Lafayette continued along towards the hotel, looking back at Mel and giving a cheeky grin as she commented. He could tell she was joking but he took a moment to dig around in his pockets, producing two cards; one his room card and another a meal card that had come with it. "Nah sheila, I can give yeh a break. Thinkin’ this coveh it, no matteh wha’ it costs," he winked, looking it over a moment. He thought it would anyways, that’d be something to discover when they got there. He looked curious a moment, glancing back at Mel curiously. "Yeh wan’ a check in on yeh friend? Make sure ain’ dead or nothin’?"

Lucy waited until Phia was done eating before walking over and hoisting the pokemon up into her arms. She looked over curiously when Noah moved to show Z the stone, and the legendary moved down, appearing to peer down at it, and then gently nudge it with the tip of his muzzle. He drew back, giving an approving nod to the pokemon, and seemed to be waiting for him and Lucy (who was also waiting for Noah before trailing after their trainers), to bring up the rear.
Mel trusted he'd be looking after them, apparently, because she didn't even glance back as she and Lala progressed. She smiled a bit quizzical, conflicted at the turn in the man's suggestion. "I really don't mind paying for at least some of it," she admitted, though if she was really being honest, she was grateful that there might be some financially shared obligation here. She wasn't sure just how much Lafayette could eat, after all. She waved a hand and headed into the hotel, dismissing the suggestion, but adding on, "Nah, sure he's... fine, somewhere. He'd message me if something came up." He was probably just hiding in the pokecenter or something, really.

"It’s alrigh’ Mello. Don’ worreh ‘bout it. Jus’ some grub and all." Lafayette remarked with a roll of his shoulders. It’d be on Juliean’s tab and all and well… why not take advantage of that? Not that Mel was aware of that but in general, but he wasn’t bothered about the idea of paying if it was just that costly.
"Yeh sure? Could invite him to grab some grub," he remarked but gave a conceding shrug. She knew him better than he did after all and it was merely a suggestion. They reached the hotel and he nabbed the door to hold it open, glancing back at the pokemon and frowning a moment. Z was rather on the big side, he didn’t know if it would be allowed to continue wandering out like it was. He considered a moment before addressing the legendary, rather uncertain on how to communicate before just speaking.
"Did’ja wanna stay out mate?" He inquired of the rock slug, waiting on an answer as he glanced at the pokemon toddling along with them. He couldn’t speak for Mel’s pokemon but he supposed he could leave them to what… wander or something for a bit while they ate? Or return them, they’d certainly been active with Mel for the past few hours after all. He’d judge and figure it out once he got a response.

Mel shrugged. "Worst, case, we'll split the check," she compromised, though she wasn't going to hold either of them to any of this. She figured they could play it by ear-- goodness knows, things were more on the 'unpredictable' side of things with Lala around, it seemed. She considered, but shrugged a little, frowning initially, then smiling. "Maybe, if it's rather empty. I imagine a place like this would have quite a few patrons, though, and social situations aren't... really his thing, after all," she decided, alluding to their earlier discussion of Brian's phobia.
She raised an eyebrow when Lafayette managed to grab the door and hold it, but chuckled and stepped in. "Thanks," she remarked, pausing inside to look back when he addressed the legendary. She blinked a bit, but turned her attention to Z, who stayed outside and looked at Lafayette. He was silent in response, but Mel spoke up after a moment. "You can probably just recall him," she remarked thoughtfully, still gazing at the legendary, "He likely wouldn' do too well in there, either." Even without telepathy, she generally knew how to read Z. She figured he didn't care, but he was usually a... silent pokemon, so he wasn't prone to commenting if he had no opinion, even if he was specifically addressed. It might have seemed rude, but it was just how he was-- and she felt confident enough to speak up for him. Plus, it really would likely be better. She pulled out Phia's and Kiwi's pokeballs, and went ahead to recall them, as well, letting Lucy stay out as the Monferno swung herself up, and casually hung herself onto her trainer's back.

"Pfffeh, sure, sure." Lafayette remarked, though his tone was far from conceding to her claim. Mel seemed rather adamant about it and arguing wasn’t going to get them anywhere, that much he’d learned in this short period of time. Plus, could just let it slip and then address it when it happened. That was probably the better way to handle it. "Eehh mahbeh. Don’ see why that’d matteh though," he remarked absently.
He waited on an answer from Z, surprised when Mel spoke up for the pokemon. He gave her a bit of a confused look; had the thing gone and spoken to her or something? Which was weird, he didn’t seem to have issues earlier talking to Lafayette. Deciding not to dwell to long on it, the Aussie just nodded and maneuvered the hold the door with his foot to free up his hand, retrieving Z’s pokeball and returning him. He eyed Cheri as well and returned her; the last thing he wanted was her out vibrating like a washing machine. That left only Noah who, for now, he allowed to remain out to interact with Lucy and Phia; which the Dewott seemed fine with, save for the fact that Phia was out and he looked rather nervous about that. He hadn’t forgotten about the vicious attack that occurred earlier and wasn’t certain if he wanted to stay too close.
"… Did Cheri eat a lot of suga’ sheila?" He inquired as he followed her inside, looking around and starting for what looked to be the restaurant area. Mel regarded Lafayette in response to his response, but decided to let the topic, in its entirety, drop. For the time being. She looked down at Cheri when he returned her, though raised her eyebrows when she noticed the vibrating just before the pokemon disappeared. "Does--" she started, but stopped at Lafayette's question. Her eyes went wide as she seemed to catch on. Oh. was that what that was...? She looked a little uncertain. "Ah, yeah... ice cream, 'member? Was that not okay?" she asked uncertainly, turning to follow along and look for the place to eat. She blinked at the question, though, tilting her head, and giving a bit of a shrug. "No, not really... I've known him for a while. We get along well enough, know how each other works. Can be a bit difficult, with his... ways 'n all. I usually have to do a lot of the coordinating and talking to people," she admitted with a smile, "I don't really mind, though. Why? He give you a bad first impression?" Her expression was a bit teasing, since she probably knew the answer, but she was a bit curious. Lala probably didn't think much of Bri, after how he'd acted.

Ah right, right. The ice cream, how could he have let that slip from his mind? He didn’t think that a little pint of the stuff would send her vibrating; cotton candy was pure sugar after all while ice cream had some other ingredients to phase out the amounts of sugar. But then again that apparently didn’t mean much if it sent her vibrating again.
"Eh… she eat’ a lot?" He inquired, giving her a bit of a surprised look when she seemed uncertain about whether the action was appropriate or not. "Ta be honest? He gave a pause though as they reached the restaurant area, eyeing the area, and noting it seemed to be a buffet. Perfect! Now that was his kind of eatery.
Noah followed along after their trainers, shell still tightly clutched in his paws as he watched their trainers a moment. He glanced at Lucy though, trying to come up with something to chat about and decided he’d had an idea. "Eh Lucy, why’s that lil’plan’ thing so mean?" He asked, deciding she might have a clue why her team mate was the way she was.

Brian had tossed the empty containers from his and Mel's drink before cautiously heading to the pokecenter. He kept about as far from the counter as possible, to avoid having to address Nurse Joy, before going upstairs to try and see if there were any obviously vacant, but of course, that didn't work too well. He didn't have a psychic to try and ask about any rooms for him, either. Giving up, he slipped back out of the pokecenter, pulling up the hood of a sweater he'd dawned, just to try and avoid looking at anyone. Not that that did him much good; it was pretty hot, so if anything, it probably caught more attention than it diverted. Still, as long as no one approached him--
"Yo yo, home dog, what's with that shady dressin'?" Brian immediately deadpanned, and straightened, turning his head just enough to peer past the hood at the source. "Yeah man, that's our job, yo!" He blinked slowly, unimpressed, as he stared at the two... young adults? Older teens? It was hard to tell. They just looked like a couple of punks. He quickly turned back around and tugged his hood further down, trying to ignore the two as he crossed the bridge from Heahea, back towards the resort.
"Hey punk! Yo, we're talkin' to you! You best stop and recognize!" the first one shouted, earning a heavy sigh, and a raised gaze from Brian. Why, why was this happening to him? This was ridiculous. They sounded like a couple idiots who'd watched too many cool movies, and had taken all the wrong notes. He stopped dead in his tracks, though, when he brought his gaze back down, to see two more punks in front of him, dressed similarly, but... He swallowed and stepped back slightly. "Hey man, you messin' with our bros?" the first girl snapped, lifting a hand in some sort of... weird sign as she stepped aggressively forward. The other girl swung her shoulder forward and glared at him, but before he could even try and address either of them, a hand grabbed his shoulder from behind, and swung him around. Brian frowned at the young man, who was just a bit shorter than he was, but the other guy, who was taller, stepped up to loom over him. "You best give us your pokemon, man," he demanded, "Else we'll break yo' face fo' this disrespect!"
Brian was having a hard time taking this seriously, even though it was pretty clear that they were. "I don't have any pokem--" He was cut off by a sharp punch to the face, and stumbled back, dropping down slightly and reaching up to rub his jaw, glaring at the two from under his hood. "Don' front, man, we saw yo' pokeball!" he insisted, strutting forward with more ridiculous hand signs. Brian couldn't help but groan and drop his shoulders while he tried to straighten up. "Wha... That's empty!" Brian quickly tried to defend, stiffening back against the railing of the bridge. It wasn't-- that was Horsea's pokeball. But these punks were apparently like every other s**t rogue group out there, and wanted to take any pokemon they could. Where was Mel when you needed her....
"Yo man, you tryin' to say your just wanderin' around with some empty pokeball at your waist?" the girl demanded, strutting over. Brian instantly stiffened and leaned away from her, eyes wide, but mouth snapped shut. Not just in stubbornness, but also, desperate fear. 'Don't step closer don't step closer don't--' His attention snapped back to the guy as he grabbed his shirt and shoved him back against the low railing of the bridge, forcing him to lean back slightly, and nearly pushing him off balance. Brian reflexively grabbed his hands and grimaced, glaring back, and though the situation was less than ideal, quietly grateful the girl had stopped a few feet back. "Yo man, you best get it together! We're talkin' to you! Now give us your pokemon!" he demanded. Brian glared. "I told you, I don't have--""Aw man, whatever! Just grab it off him--" the girl started, swaggering closer. Brian moved so fast, he actually managed to free himself from the punk's grip as he suddenly swerved off to the side, and practically dived away from her, ducking down and throwing his arms over his arms over his head as he curled up against the railing. "Just leave me alone!" he snapped, his face burning.
Startled, the group of four just stared a second, before the shorter guy stepped forward, raising a fist. "Yo, man, you scared of chicks or somethin'!?" he accused, sounding a mix of mocking, and uncertain. Seriously, what? The taller guy stared, before he straightened, a huge grin on his face. "Ha... Haha! Aw man, yo, you're makin' this too easy, homey!" he barked, swaggering forward. The girl caught on and snaked along just behind him. Brian wasn't looking, but he could see in his peripheral vision, through the bend in his arm, their shoes approaching, and tensed up, his teeth clenched together. "I don't have any pokemon!" he insisted steadily, "Look, I'll give you my money, alright? But that pokeballs empty, there's nothing in it!""Man, we'll take your money and yo' empty pokeball!" the guy laughed, earning a dark look from Brian, "Now c'mon!" He felt hands grab his jacket and yank him up, but the moment his feet were on the ground, he tried to shove the man back, preparing to bolt. As soon as he'd turned and taken three steps, though, the other girl, who hadn't spoken yet, appeared in front of him. He lurched back, and as he did, another hand grabbed the hood of his jacket, and promptly threw him back down.He wasn't dumb enough to move beyond that, and just barely rolled away from a kick to the ribs and get up on his hands and knees, glaring up at the group. This was.... ridiculous. He couldn't believe this. Of all the dumb idiots to get mugged by....
"Alright, man, hand over the bling," the guy demanded, stepping forward with his hands on his hips. Brian gave him a dull stare. "... You're an idiot." The guy's expression quickly turned to anger; even though Brian had muttered it, he seemed to have heard enough, and his face turned red at the back talk. "Hey, what!?" he demanded. Brian sighed. "Nothing. Here," he muttered, tossing his wallet at them as he climbed to his feet. He was pretty sure he'd bit his tongue when he'd fallen back, and his head hurt from hitting the concrete. He glanced uneasily at the girls, then back to the other two as the shorter guy picked the wallet up, and started going through it. "Good job, narc, now the pokemon," the girl demanded, but she didn't give him a chance. She stepped forward, reaching for the pokeball, and at the same time, reaching a hand up. Brian's eyes widened and he immediately jerked back, but he barely managed to make a sound, before her hand connected with his chest, his back hit the railing, and her fingers grabbed the pokeball at his waist. "Nnuh--!" Before he could register it, he was falling back, into the water. He barely heard the sound of a pokeball snapping open, a chorus of shouts, before something small and blue appeared overhead, flying through the air, just before water fell in and surrounded him.

Mel seemed to consider that for a moment, then looked a little apologetic. "Ah... yeah, I suppose she sort of did. She... taste 'tested' quite a few of them," she admitted, looking a bit worried. The uncertainty remained despite his reassurance, but she nodded. Hopefully resting in the pokeball would help that ware off a bit, or something. She would certainly have to note that for the future. "She usually into sugar?" she asked curiously. It seemed Cheri certainly had a thing for them, from what she could tell.
She chuckled warily at Lafayette's observation. "Bri's just... wary. He's got reason to be. I'm sure he'll warm up t'you, though," she reassured, with a playful wink of her own. She shrugged some, looking thoughtful at the added remark, then glancing up at the question. She pressed her lips together and looked down. "Ah, it.... He went through some things as a kid," she explained, giving a slight smile, "I dunno quite why, but... it scarred him into this fear. I couldn't entirely explain it to you, but I guess everyone handles things differently 'n grows from it differently, y'know?" She shrugged some, chewing the inside of her lip. She.... honestly, she had a bad habit of gossiping, but even she knew when to try not to say too much. And Brian's past wasn't really her business to tell.
Lucy blinked when Noah piped up, looking down from Mel's back. She swung down and dropped onto the ground, then straightened some, looking at the other starter curiously. "Huh? Y'mean Phia?" she clarified. She raised her shoulders and lifted her arms up in a big shrug, though, her head tilting slightly. "Dunno. She's always been like that, from what I've seen," she replied, "She didn't even let Mel name her." She came with the name, in fact, if she remembered right.
