☆ ☆【 The trip to Alola by boat was… rather exhausting, and that was putting it lightly. Not even seconds after Nizhoni had stepped on the boat, Gar, being the troublesome b*****d of a Hakamo-o that he was, had burst out of his ball and proceeded to run amok, knocking over tables, chairs, other people’s suitcases, and whatever other unfortunate objects in his path that weren’t bolted to the floor. As it turned out he had apparently been extremely hungry and, lacking any patience to wait for far longer, had gone off on his own to attempt to locate the nearest source of food, that being the all-you-can-eat buffet. Arceus, she swore the Hakamo-o had far too quick a metabolism, his body practically burned through calories like jet fuel and not even an hour later he would be hungry again even if he had just eaten. Thankfully the damages were minimal at best, and were hardly enough to really warrant her being kicked off the ship before it even set sail, although the majority of the other passengers would cast annoyed glares in her direction for much of the trip. She really wished there was a better way to keep that damn Hakamo-o under control, even just keeping him in his Pokeball only worked to a certain extent before he would come out of his own volition. A part of her was tempted to just put some duct tape over the button of the Pokeball in hopes that it would help, but she decided against it as it seemed a bit cruel the more she thought about it. Still, the least she could do was just put up with his shenanigans and be as forgiving as one would be to a rambunctious, troublemaking child. Hopefully this would become less of a problem once he evolved into Kommo-o, though at this rate that wouldn’t be happening anytime soon from the looks of it.

Once Gar was finally fed, including occasional trips back to the ship’s mess hall whenever he grew hungry again and demanded more food, the rest of the trip proceeded relatively smoothly. As the ship was pulling into port in Alola, Zoey sat in her cabin with Eir in her lap, the Alolan Ninetales taking the opportunity to rest up knowing that they had a lot of walking to do once they arrived. Maja had gone off to explore around the ship once again, the Ghost-type curious to see the goings on in this unfamiliar environment. Being able to go through solid objects made it difficult to really keep tabs on her, so Zoey decided to just say ‘******** it’ and let her go where she pleased. She always came back afterwards, so the woman wasn’t particularly worried about losing her. ”Coming into port for Alola! All passengers who will be departing to Alola please come to the deck!” the voice of the captain blared over the PA, causing Zoey to start a bit at the suddenness. ”Sounds like that’ll be our stop,” she murmured, leaning down and lightly patting the nine-tailed fox in her lap to try and rouse her, ”Hey Eir, it’s time for us to get off, we should get goin'.” Of course, it was too much to simply hope that the Ninetales would listen the first time, as Eir growled softly and covered her head with her paws as she rolled onto her belly. ”Mmmnnn… five more minutes…” she groaned childishly, she could be quite stubborn when her sleep was suddenly disrupted. Zoey rolled her eyes, and began slowly trying to push the fox out of her lap. ”We don’t have five more minutes, unless ya wanna just stay here and let the boat take us all the way back to Hoenn after we JUST came all this way,” she said in a bit of a sharper tone.

The Ninetales cracked one eye open a little, directing a mildly annoyed glare in Zoey’s direction as she leaned her full weight against the woman’s hands and legs to keep herself anchored. Even though a Ninetales didn’t exactly weigh all that much and Zoey was actually quite strong, the woman clearly wasn’t putting that much force into pushing her. ”Would hardly be a bad idea,” she shot back, clearly intending to not give in so easily. Zoey huffed, they didn’t have time for this s**t and Arceus forbid she miss her stop in Alola because a certain fox wanted to sleep in a little longer. She gave the Ninetales one final, much more forceful shove, and Eir groaned as she admitted defeat and let the woman slide her off from her lap, landing lazily on all fours onto the floor below. ”Big meanie…” she muttered as she puffed out her tails in indignation, though she clearly held no ill intent behind the rather childish insult as she shook the rest of the sleep from herself and waited by the door for Zoey to get her things. It took only a couple minutes to get everything and head out to the deck in time to join the other passengers who were walking down the ramp to the Alolan port. At that time, Maja chose to rejoin them as the Danshen virtually appeared right out of the blue in front of them. ”Had fun with your little excursion?” Zoey asked with a small grin, chuckling as the little furball bounced gleefully up and down in midair while chanting ”Dan dan!” in a cheerfully melodic manner. As they made their way down the ramp, Maja floated over to Zoey and gently nestled onto her shoulder, deciding to catch a ride the rest of the way to the lab.

Professor Kukui’s lab hadn’t been hard to find at all, considering that it was literally the only building present in one of the beachy areas along Route 1. As she got closer to it, she noticed a lot of criss-crossed boards placed over parts of the wall, roof, door, even the banner that hung from the house’s awning, the sign of impromptu repairs from the looks of it. What did the man do in there all day? Those damaged areas certainly didn’t look like the product of typical weathering and breakage, she was sure Bernie, with his job as a carpenter, would've said so if he was looking at this himself. She had briefly read in the Alolan information packet she had grabbed on the ship that apparently Kukui’s studies focused on Pokemon moves, though what exactly that description entailed she wasn’t entirely sure. With Eir and Maja at her side, she stepped up the small set of creaky wooden stairs to the front door and swung it open without preamble to announce her arrival. ”Oi, Professor Kuks! I’m here to pick up a starter!” she called out, glancing around to see where the man had gotten off to. She had to admit his little shack looked a lot nicer on the inside than on the outside, rather clean and well-kept from the looks of it. She took a moment to briefly admire the rather large aquarium towards the back of the place, even Professor Birch’s lab back in Hoenn didn’t have anything even remotely like that. A Stufful peeked from around the corner of the kitchen counter while a Snubbull hopped onto the back of the nearby couch at the sound of Zoey’s voice, both of them glancing curiously at the new arrivals. Maja flew from her place on the woman’s shoulder to hover around the Stufful, her singular eye sparkling brightly in wonder as she chirped and moved about in erratic patterns to try to get the little pink bear to play with her. Eir sniffed around curiously, taking in the sights and smells around them while Zoey went to find the professor. ”I’d very much like to take a Litten if ya got any on ya right now,” she said, having decided ahead of time what Pokemon she wanted even before the ship docked in Alola. She had to admit that all the starters looked very enticing (and cute) in their own rights, but Fire-types were admittedly among one of her favorites. Popplio would’ve easily been her second choice if the Professor didn’t have any Littens on hand right now, but she had more than made up her mind already. 】☆ ☆

☆ ☆【 Zoey chuckled softly as Eir and Maja started poking around, the little ghostly fluffball quite insistent on getting the Stufful to play even though the little bear didn’t seem to be in the mood. It was even pretending to be a plushie by standing completely still, it was probably rather nervous about the newcomers who had just shown up. ”Just leave it be, sweetie, I don’t think it wants to play,” the woman said, beckoning the Danshen to follow along so that the little pink bear had some room to breathe. Maja gave a soft little warble, rather disappointed at not being able to get a playmate, and moved on to hover towards the large aquarium nearby, her singular eye sparkling in wonder as she watched the decorative display and the fish Pokemon swimming around inside. Zoey grinned as the Rockruff came to greet her, bending down and giving it a few gentle pats on the head before it moved on to sniff at Eir. The Alolan Ninetales was a bit startled by the Rockruff, but upon realizing what it was doing she returned the gesture and sniffed at it, giving a couple friendly yips and wagging her thick fluffy tails.

The woman glanced over as Kukui himself finally emerged from the depths of the basement, grinning as she greeted him in the traditional Alolan way. ”Alola, and yeah, hit the nail right on the head there,” she reciprocated with a nod, following him down into the basement as he waved her over. And sure enough, there was a Litten already out of its ball that was seated on the professor’s desk. Zoey quirked an eyebrow in curiosity as Kukui said that the Litten had been getting rather antsy lately to go on its own journey as she accepted its Pokeball, glancing over as the little fire cat immediately jumped down from the desk, stretching out a little before coming over. ”Heh, someone’s eager to get goin’, I think we’re gonna have ton of fun together,” she remarked with a small smirk, turning to accept her starter pack as Professor Kukui handed over a bunch of Pokeballs, potions, and a Pokedek. ”Thank ya muchly, cuz, see ya around!” she said gratefully with a wave, turning to head back up the stairs with her new Litten in tow. ”C’mon, dears, we’re headin’ out now!” she called to her Pokemon as she made her way towards the door. Not wanting to be left behind, Maja left off her exploration to hover back over to her place on Zoey’s shoulder. Eir gave the Rockruff an amiable bark to say farewell before joining her trainer and new teammate as they headed back out to Route 1 to officially start their adventure. 】☆ ☆

Why, Hello there.

Cerulean Crescent

The train ride over with his Elder escorting him was long and grueling. Cerulean had picked up a few books before leaving his home region to read along the way. He studied up on the region he was visiting, excited for the new adventure at hand. More than that, he was excited for the new Pokemon he would get to see. The train stopped at a few other stops before heading out for what seemed forever to get to Alola.

Once the train came to a stop and the announcer over the intercom called their destination, Cerulean's head popped up from his book. "We're here?" The boy exclaimed excitedly. The Elder chuckled and nodded. The duo waited for the train to come to a halt before they got up; Cerulean rushing out the doors to explore.

It was hot. Not that Cerulean didn't mind the heat, he just wasn't expecting it to be quite that humid. The Elder finally caught up with the excited boy and began to lead the way. Cerulean looked around excitedly, stopping every so often to look at a Pokemon on the street. They made it to the door of the Pokemon Professor, the Elder stopping Cerulean for a moment.

"Ever since we took you in, you've always had a sense for adventure and making friends with Pokemon. I know it's not much, but the other Elders and I got you a gift for your Journey. You haven't stopped talking about this Pokemon since you read 'Weekly Kalos Cuties'." The man held out a Pokeball to Cerulean, the latter of which took the Pokeball carefully. With tears in his eyes, the young trainer hugged the Elder; a 'thank you' on his lips. Pulling away from the hug, the Elder bid his charge a fond farewell before leaving Cerulean at the door.

Taking a deep breath, Cerulean let his new Pokemon out. The Sylveon smiled brightly up at the boy, bouncing a little in greeting. "Hello there, friend. I think... Sylvio would be a good name for you, don't you think?" The Pokemon nodded and bounced a bit more, before stopping. "Perfect. Shall we?" He asked to no one before opening the door and walking in.

"Professor Kukui? Alola. You home?" The boy calls out nervously. Sylvio calmly walks to the boy's side, sits down and brushes a paw against his leg.

Why, Hello there.

Cerulean Crescent

Upon hearing the Rockruff, both Cerulean and Sylvio jumped a bit. It was the trainer that knelt down to greet the Rockruff, once he was done running around the Sylveon. Cerulean reached out and scratched at the puppy Pokemon's neck and chin, noting the rocks like a collar there.

Hearing a voice that was very much human, Cerulean stood up, leaving Sylvio to play a bit with the Rockruff. "Alola! Not at all, I welcome the enthusiasm." The boy smiles at the Pokemon Professor, listening to his facts about his new Sylveon. "A starter would be amazing and we'll be sure to come back for more facts about different Pokemon later." Cerulean suggested, looking down to catch his Sylveon sitting beside him; his paw patting the ground playfully at the Rockruff.

Why, Hello there.

Cerulean Crescent

Cerulean nods his head and when beckoned by Professor Kukui, he followed him. Down the stairs and into the basement lab they went. The blond boy looked around, smiling softly before bringing his eyes to lay upon the three Pokeballs. Hearing the names of the starters and seeing them had Cerulean smiling widely. "Wow! They all look amazing!" He hums thoughtfully for a moment.

Sylvio had followed his trainer shortly after he disappeared downstairs. The Pokemon approached slowly and sat quietly beside his trainer. The duo looked between each Pokemon. Cerulean knelt down in front of the Pokemon known as Rowlet. "Hey, wanna join us on our island adventure?" He asked the small owl-looking Pokemon.

The Pokemon smiled, hooting excitedly at the words. Cerulean nodded, picked up the Rowlet and stood. "Looks like we got us a new partner. Archer." The trainer claimed the nickname to the Rowlet and the Rowlet flapped happily.

The trainer stated before putting his Pokedex, Pokeballs and Potions into his bag. "Alola Professor. Have a great day." The trainer turned, gave the Rockruff a quick pet and exited the building with Sylvio in tow.

Rina stretched her arms softly, the wind caressing her cheeks lightly as she made her way through. Her vacation here had been relaxing, and after everything that she had do go through it was a nice change of pace. Her eyes moved over to her partner and friend, Zeraora. She smiled softly, as Zeraora raised a questioning brow at her their arms crossed. Rina laughed softly, spinning around with her hands behind her head as she started to walk backwards "sooooo, you like it too right? I mean the energy here feels exhilarating, and the wind is so gentle... it's really amazing here huh Zero?" she said softly, a fond gaze directed towards the electric type pokemon.

Zero hummed for a moment, before nodding in agreement. Rina recently had a harder time understanding what Zero was trying to tell her. Back in the lab she had no problems understanding Zeraora, they were close after all. However, back then she had equipment that helped her, so maybe that was why she was struggling so much to understand Zero now? Perhaps their bond needed to strengthen more for her to have no issues? It would make sense, after all Zero had been with her for a little under a year. They still had much to learn about one another, and Rina hoped that one day they'd both come to an understanding.

Shaking her head a little, Rina turned her attention back towards Zero "ready to meet the new addition to the family?" she asked, her head softly tilted to the side. Zero rolled his eyes, but again nodded. It seemed that Zero saw themselves as the pack leader when it came to their little pokemon family. He didn't tend to like those who caused trouble for their family. Rina snickered at the thought, Zero just wanted to look all big and strong. However, Rina knew the truth. Zero was just a huge mother hen, whether he wanted to admit it or not. Rina loved him all the same.

Eventually, Rina spun back forwards as they made their way to the lab. Her parents had advised her to get a starter of her own. While she did have some pokemon with her already, they wanted her to experience some of the things she hadn't gotten a chance too when she was younger. Rina place a hand on her heart and took a deep breath. Ok, she could do this. She felt Zero bush up against her side, their presence easing the tension out of her body. She gave Zero a grateful look, before they both walked forwards and opened the door.

Rina sensed at least three different auras within the lab. Pursing her lips she moved to get a look to see who the aura belonged too. She smiled softly as she noticed the small starter pokemon looking up at her arrival. She bit her lip, trying to stop a smile spreading on her face as she offered a small. Zero seemed to go along with it, as they offered their little wave to the pokemon in the lab. Rina didn't know why, but her own aura seemed drawn to the aura the little owl-like pokemon was exhibiting. Without a second thought, Rina knew exactly who she was going to pick to join their family of misfits. Looking up, Rina sensed a larger aura a bit further back in the lab. Perhaps that was the professor? Rina looked towards the back "um... hello? Is there anyone back there? I'm looking to get a..." she trailed off as her eyes moved back over towards the pokemon. What were these pokemon called anyways? She pursed her lips, oh man! She totally forgot to check which pokemon she could choose from.

"Rowlet"

Rina jumped as she heard the faintest whisper of a name brush against her mind. She turned, her eyes locking onto those of the owl-like pokemon she had noticed earlier. The little pokemon's eyes glittered as Rina stared at it. Did the little guy just tell her what pokemon he was? A warmth spread in her chest, and a fond smile appeared on her face. She didn't stop looking at the owl before her "I'm looking to get a Rowlet!" she chirped happily.

Rina waited for someone to answer her, as she fiddled her fingers. To Rina's surprise, a small aura came shooting out towards her. At first she was surprised, jumping a bit as the small life form barreled past her and towards her partner Zero. Upon closer inspection, Rina noticed that the aura belonged to a dog-like pokeon. Rina cooed softly, smiling as the little guy barked before inspecting Zero. Zero snapped his tail irritated, but didn't stop the pokemon from sniffing him. Zero was in this pokemons territory, it was only natural to remain still and show that they were not a threat to their home.

One the little pokemon was satisfied, he seemed to veer back towards Rina. Rina laughed as the pokemon wagged it's tail excitedly, how could Rina resist those EYES! She pet him, before scratching behind his ears softly. Rina almost missed a second larger aura descending from the stairs, and she looked up to see a tan man with a lab coat on. Rina tilted her head to the side as the man called her his cousin. A confused look crossed her face for a moment, before understanding replaced it. Right, that was just how they greeted people here. Rina smiled "Alola!" she chirped back, giving him a small wave.

The man spoke about how he hadn't seen people walking around with the mythical pokemon Zeraora. Rina supposed that was true, there weren't many like Zero out there. Rina placed her hands on her hips proudly "that's because we're partners, family!" she exclaimed. Zero eyed her with a fond look, before his eyes sharpened as the man approached. Rina slapped a hand over her mouth to hide her laughter as she noticed Zero puffing out their chest to seem more intimidating. That was hilarious! Zero was such a sweetheart it was funny to see him try to act all tough. Rina smiled again "They sure can pack a punch! I would know" she said, agreeing with the man who she assumed was the professor.

When the professor asked her is she was looking for a Rowlet, Rina brightened "yes! Absolutely yes!" he exclaimed, clapping her hands together happily. Her eyes moved over to the owl-like pokemon again as it swooped down to meet her. The professor then stated that Rowlet seemed to have locked onto her already. Rina nodded "yeah, we definitely had a bonding moment for sure... I just want to cradled him in my arms!" she cooed softly.

Rina then looked up at the professor as he handed her Rowlet's pokeball, as well as a few other items. She took them from him, before placing them into her bag for safe keeping. She then looked back, Rowlet flying softly onto her shoulder. She laughed as her new pokemon continued to use her as a perch "no, I think I'm good. Thank you so much for your time professor, it means a lot to me" she said, thanking him. She turned her head towards Rowlet, "ready to get this show on the road... Rolo?" she asked softly, giving his name a test. Rowlet cooed happily at the name, and Rina smiled again "great! Welcome to the family Rolo! My name's Rina, and this is my other partner Zero" she said, introducing them to Rolo. Zero and Rolo seemed to be studying each other for a moment, before they nodded towards one another. With that settled, Rina waved goodbye one last time before making her way back to another region.
