I am finally back on Gaia. It has been a while. When I first began using the site, I was only 12. This was in 2003, when I went by the name Tokyo_Mew_Angel. Hmmm, I wonder where I got that one…
Back then Gaia was for hardcore anime/manga fans. I just so happened to be one of them. When I mentioned the site to people in the ‘offline’ world, I got many looks that translated to “what a nerd!” Now, if somebody doesn’t know of Gaia they are behind the times. You can even purchase Gaia Cash in stores. When I first saw this I was taken quite aback by the popularity that this once illusive site has gained over the years.
Popularity comes at a price. Now the forum topics are not quite as interesting as they used to, and I long for the intimacy they held in days past. Now the threads are full of flames and trolls, and it is difficult to find a forum in which some poor user isn’t seeking affirmation of physical beauty.
However, there are some pros to the changes on the site. Although I am still adjusting to the layout (yes, I am a dinosaur kiddies) it is a lot clearer than it used to be. Also, with the addition of new characters, quests, and games the site itself is much more dynamic. Not to mention the availability of official Gaia merchandise and the Gaia Gold option.
Just like anything else that changes, the new Gaia comes with its ups and downs. You just have to stay along for the ride. Where will Gaia take us next?
