Innocently Devious: A Study in Canadian Otaku Culture
What happens when you give a keyboard to a Gaian who watches way too much anime, reads way to much manga, and plays way too many video games? This!
Well, Sunday has rolled around again, and with it, the premier of my new webcomic, Innocently Devious! You can find it in the Art Arena here, or at my profile. Yeah, it's not quite up to standard with other webcomics, but it's there, in it's gloriously poor form, for me to improve, And I promise to do so.
If you read last Sunday's post, then you'll know I was eagerly awaiting the release of the new Wii Harvest Moon game, that was supposed to come out on Thursday. Unfortunately, Best Buy and Future Shop have both let me down, so I'm now waiting for Tuesday, when Future Shop will be getting their shipment, which will hopefully include the game. If they don't, then I'm just going to assume they're going along with the actual release date (November 10th), instead of screwing up and releasing it early.
Also, with the passing of the week, it's now less than a week to Halloween. Any Torontonians in my audience? No?
...
Any audience whatsoever?
Anyway, if some random Torontonian happens across this entry, comment or send me a PM if you're going to the AN Halloween Dance. I'll be there, the guy with the big hair and witch's hat (though I'm a guy...). I'd love to talk with another Toronto Gaian. Right now I know of two.
Also on the topic of Halloween, I am currently awaiting the release of Gaia's Halloween event with bated breath. I greatly enjoyed the two Halloween events I've participated in so far, and this one sounds like it's waming up to be just as good, if not better. I am rather happy the planners are taking a break from the human/vampire struggles, as our teenage girls do not need more incentive to act like twilightfags. In any case, it looks like this Halloween is going to be an interesting one.
Now, for the anime review this week, I'm going to kick off a four-part segement I call the JC Staff/Rie Kugamiya Quartet. Four totally kick-a** anime out of awesome anime studio JC Staff, all with Rie Kugamiya playing the lead female character. For the first out of the four, I'm going with Shakugan no Shana, which released the first episode of it's new OVA this week.

Shakugan no Shana
Episodes: 52 (2 seasons of 24 episodes each, 4 episode OVA)
Grade: A+
Peversion Level: 1/5
Sakai Yuuji was a normal freshman high school student. He studied, had fun with friends, went home and slept. His life wasn't abnormal or eccentric, but he enjoyed it.
But one day walking home from school, he has an encounter with a horrifying doll-like monster that tries to eat him. He is saved by a girl with flame-like hair, but when he tries to get an explanation of what happened from her, she tells him that he is dead!
This is one of my favourite battle anime, far better than Naruto or Bleach. The characters are a lot more enjoyable, with everyone offering great interactions. Also, it does not focus entirely on battling, with character growth and interaction also playing key parts of the story. The music is interesting and well written, however, it's usually faint, and you have to listen for it. The logic behind the fantasy elements of the story is well-constructed, and if you take the time to understand it (it can be rather confusing), it makes sense. If you want to break away from the noobmold which is the Naruto and Bleach fanbase, but still want action in your anime, this is your place to start.

Well, that's all for this post. I'll swing around next week with a new review and webcomic, which will hopefully be better than this weeks.
Until then!
