Je parle un peu français. Je commence étudier indépendamment cet été, mais je vais être en une classe dans mon université en l'automne. Je veux joindre les fils de discussion, mais parfois je suis vraiment timide sur mon français. :<
I don't either. Patriotism seems to be a double standard for Americans. It's okay for everyone else to leave and never look back at their home country again, but Americans are treated by their countrymen like criminals for doing the same thing. It's good that you're doing your research and planning on visiting first. Even if you are interested in a country, it's always best to see if you like the atmosphere. I actually was planning to move to Germany and didn't care about France at all, but then I went and now I miss it like crazy.
Wow, I never thought that I would meet someone who felt the exact same way. Like I said, no country is perfect, but I think I love France enough to be willing to embrace the goods and the bad. It's a shame that Parisians have the reputation that they do, I found them to be wonderful and my mother, cousin, and I weren't being mistreated at all because we were American - don't know if us not being white Americans had anything to do with that or not, though, so maybe it was different for us.
Hey! I saw your thread in the Gaia International forums and wanted to say that I feel the same way - but I'm a little nervous to post it there because I don't want to get flamed. I love the States because it's where I was born and it's what I am and I would never wish ill on it, but I went to France and fell madly in love because I felt a lot freer there. I know France isn't perfect either, but I'd really rather live there than here.
