Well you certainly have the right technique! Perhaps you should think about drawing persons in their whole, not just their heads. I'm sure that it would give great results, I really like the way you draw.
You seem to have no fear in what you do, I can see that by the wild stripes, unafraid to make mistakes and no need to gum it away.
