Dark and shivering shadows creep,
Round the beds where babies sleep.
Swirling tendrils, peculiar sighs
Echo down the halls on nights -
Nights like these, when repose,
Even breaths and shivering toes,
Lit in dimmed down hallway light,
Wake despite the Sandman's might.

Railings on the bed are snakes
Clothes upon the floor are hulking
Hungry lions bear and wraiths
When the child waking lonely
Looks out from her bed at night
