"I'll just have to be careful to protect you when we're out in the field. Does that sound good?"
Boyd and Mist. (Protection Base Conversation)

Boyd is a member of the Greil Mercenaries, and also has two brothers. They are Oscar and Rolf. Among the three, Boyd is the middle of the three, and though they argue at times, they deeply care for each other. His personality is frank and straightfoward, and there are times he is a little cocky.

Boyd and his brothers were going through hard times. Oscar was in the military, and Boyd had to look after Rolf because their mother left the family and their father died later after that happening. Boyd didn't know what to do though. Oscar later received a discharge to help out, but times were tough. That's when Greil found them. He gave them jobs, a place to sleep, food on their plates......he gave them their lives back.

Boyd was Ike's first sparring partner, and questioned why he should train with Ike. After the Mercenaries found Elincia of Crimea, the Daein army attacked their fort. When asked whether to give Elincia to Daein or escort her to Gallia, Boyd agreed to help because "that's what heroes are supposed to do." After thinking, Greil decided to escort Elincia to Gallia.

After Greil's death in the duel against the Black Knight, Boyd and Oscar tried to stop Shinon and Gatrie, but their efforts were in vain.
Even though Ike suddenly became commander, Boyd chose to stay.
After their meeting with Lethe and Mordecai, Rolf and Mist wanted to join the fight. Boyd and Oscar was reluctant to let Rolf join, but he insisted because he said he learned to use a bow by himself. (He promised not to tell anyone about Shinon teaching Rolf about archery)

The three brothers can use a triangle attack if the right conditions are met.
1. View the 3 Brothers conversation in chapter 13.
2. Have Boyd promoted to a Warrior.
3. Have Oscar promoted to a Paladin and allow him to use bows.
4. And lastly, View the 3 Brothers conversation in chapter 19.

After the war, the Greil Mercenaries were nowhere to be found during the Crimea Rebellion. Marcia looked around to find them, but all she heard was that the Mercenaries were taking low paying odd jobs, but nobody knows where they are now. Before Lucia's execution, the Mercenaries jumped into action, saving Lucia.

After the rebellion ended, the Mercenaries joined with the Laguz Alliance. Even Shinon joined despite his hatred towards laguz.
If Boyd visited the middle house in Mugill, a base conversation could be viewed. In the conversation, Oscar and Boyd are chatting and after so long, their mother returned, but the two aren't happy to see her. She said the reason why she left was because "she wasn't ready." She wasn't aware though that their father died later after that. She wanted to see Rolf, but Boyd did not want her to see him. Oscar decides to leave this up to Rolf, and Rolf doesn't want to go with her. He wanted to stay with his brothers and the Greil Mercenaries. This shows how deeply they care for each other.

Also, if Boyd supported Mist, he would give her some Spirit Dust as a gift. Later, in a battle against the Daein army, after the war dragged on for so long, Mist started feeling sick because of the chaos from this war. If Boyd is in the party or has supported Mist, he shows deep concern for her and tells Ike to make sure nothing happens to her. Ike then takes Mist into the room with the medallion, which is burning brightly.

After Yune's awakening, Ashera casted her judgement on everyone, petrifying everyone, but every playable character survived the petrification. Yune instructs everyone to go to the Tower of Guidance to stop Ashera and free everyone from petrification.

After Ashera's defeat, everyone returned to normal, and if Boyd supported Mist, they would be married in the end, but if not, then Boyd trained day in and day out, so as not to lose his spot to "some stupid rookie". He never did, either.

It is also possible for the three brothers to use the triangle attack in Radiant Dawn, but the conditions are a little more lenient. Boyd needs to use a Bowgun or anything related to that and Oscar needs to promote to a Silver Knight.

My overall opinion of Boyd:

I personally find him great in Path of Radiance, and in Radiant Dawn, he's better than Nolan. He starts off a little slow, but after a few level ups, he will excel in combat. But if you do not use him, at least try to support him and Mist so you can get the Spirit Dust, but you can't go wrong with him.

I am going for an Ike Avatar:
Characters I used in Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn Hard Mode

Sothe
User Image
I didn't really use him in endgame because he promoted in the wrong chapter. Well, if he wasn't hindered in the desert, then I might've used him, but even so, Volke is better.

Sanaki
User Image
Same applies for her. I didn't use her either. Considering the atrocious strength, I knew she wouldn't be able to use Rexflame without losing speed because of the Weight vs. Strength.

Reyson
User Image
Even though did not reach level 40 by the time I reached the final boss, he turned out great! I personally think he is better than the other two herons.

Nasir
User Image
Yeah, I've used Nasir rather than Sothe or Sanaki. He may be slow, but the least he can do is support other characters thanks to his White Pool ability.

Gareth
User Image
Most would think twice about Gareth. Especially in Hard Mode (Or in Japan's case, Maniac Mode.). He may not be the best dragon, but he can support other characters with the Blood Tide. Double Blood Tide ftw! XD

Ena
User Image
Ena has a pretty sad initial level. On the plus side though, she is balanced statwise. Since she is part white dragon and part red dragon, her magic and physical stats cap at 20, which when transformed, doubles to 40. That's not too bad. And besides, she and Kurth can attack the enemies in Rebirth: Part 3 without being counterattacked. She's pretty good IMHO.

Kurthnaga
User Image
Among all of the dragons, Kurthnaga was the only dragon to reach level 40. And believe me, it required a LOT of experience grinding. I cannot stress that enough, but he turned out pretty well. And thanks to his Night Tide, he can increase defense and resistance to units adjacent to him. That's pretty good if you ask me.

Micaiah (In some people's case, Failcaiah. XD)
User Image
Since she was forced, I wasn't too enthusiastic about using her in hard mode. Some players ended up lucky enough to have her end up speedy to avoid double attack. (and possibly double attack. =D) Anyways, she makes a decent healer at least.

Sephiran/Lehran
User Image
To those who don't know, it's possible to recruit Lehran. A couple conditions must be met however.
1. 2nd playthrough and onwards
2. Bring the Black Knight in Part 1: Endgame.
3. Have Ike fight the Black Knight in 3-7 and both survive. (Not easy)
After these conditions are met, you should view Ike's memory scene in Rebirth: Part 2. If so, you will recruit Lehran in the last chapter before it begins. Anyways, he starts at level 20, so that's nothing to worry about, but he is a beast! He can use Rexaura, or Balberith if you want. I prefer to give him Rexaura though because there's no sense in bringing Pelleas if you try to give Lehran Balberith. I just give him Rexaura and give Micaiah the Ashera Staff. Anyways, use him while you can!
...Oh, and also, if you recruit him and he stays alive, Dawn Awakens will play during the credits.

Pelleas
User Image
Like Lehran, Pelleas can only be recruited on the 2nd playthrough and onwards, but in this case, all you have to do is choose NOT to kill Pelleas. If you choose not to, he will be recruited in the 2nd turn in 4-2. He does require a bit of effort, but nothing like Elincia's Mercy will do the trick. I find it useful for a situation like this. He can also use thunder magic, and altogether, he's pretty good. I'd recommend him, if you're willing to put the effort into him.

Volke
User Image
Like PoR, Volke is an absolute beast in RD! I prefer Volke over Sothe anyday! Anyways, make sure you have 3000 gold before talking to him with Bastian or Elincia. Not a bad price, but in Hard Mode, money can get really tight. So watch out.

Calill
User Image
The Fire Mages seem to have poor availibility, especially Tormod. Despite that however, Calill is the best fire mage IMHO. She can safely use Rexflame without any speed loss, and gain that 3 speed bonus. Even though she doesn't have the best availability, I would choose Calill over Sanaki any day.

Shinon
User Image
Shinon is absolutely amazing in Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn. He doesn't end up like he did in PoR, so there's nothing to worry about, but if you give him the Double Bow, no enemy will be safe from his attacks. With a range of 1-3 Shinon can attack where he pleases without any worry of a counterattack. Go for him!

Soren
User Image
He's just like the way he was in PoR. He may start of rather slow, but after enough level ups, he should be able to defeat any enemy with ease. If not, then they'll be left with low HP at least.

Ranulf
User Image
Call me crazy if you want, but among all of the laguz that aren't nobles, I could think of no better laguz than Ranulf. He's the best laguz cat, and even though I couldn't use bonus EXP on him much, he still turned out great. Just don't expect him to level up easily in Hard Mode.

Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn Hard Mode Top 5

5. Ilyana
User Image
Wins: 131
I didn't expect her to reach the Top 5, but oh well. Despite her atrocious speed cap (which is 30), she's still pretty good. At least she can't get double attacked. =D It's up to you whether or not to bring her in Endgame.

4. Mia
User Image
Wins: 136
Mia is the best female Trueblade no doubt. I could've gone with Edward, or Zihark, heck even Stefan, I just prefer Mia. You cannot go wrong with her whatsoever! =D

3. Ike
User Image
Wins: 136
WTF!?! What are the odds? Oh well, I didn't expect Ike to make it in the Top 5 because I used him less when he reached his maximum level, but oh well. He's the best Fire Emblem character. (Well, the best beorc Fire Emblem character) Nuff' said.

2. Nephenee
User Image
Wins: 142
Pretty close, but anyways, I'm impressed that Nephenee was #2 in the Top 5. Oddly, she didn't reach level 20 by the time I reached the final boss. Anyways, I was actually tempted to go with Gatrie, but I haven't used Nephenee in a while and besides, I needed someone to help with Calill in
2-Endgame.

1. Jill
User Image
Wins: 198
Whew. Talk about a landslide victory. I pretty much soloed her during the Dawn Brigade chapters, so that might explain something. Jill is overall great though. I would not think twice about bringing her along to endgame. She is deadly!

My overall opinion of FE: Radiant Dawn Hard Mode:
Most would say it is too hard, but I think it is a good challenge. Honestly, if anyone challenged me to play FE: Radiant Dawn in Hard Mode, I would pretty much do it again.
