Wow. Over forty years and we still haven't gone back. I hope humans get back out there soon.

One of my dreams is to be an astronaut, so I thought it'd be great to honor the space program on my profile.
I probably grew interested in science through science fiction. Those stories really show you the possibilities out there.
Of course, science fiction is only fiction until we advance a little farther. The moon landing was a perfect example to this.
I'm a college student majoring in astrophysics. I've done work at Chabot Space and Science Center in Oakland, CA.

At the height of the Cold War, the United States extended its reach to Earth's nearest neighbor. After the Soviet Union beat the United States to space with the first artificial satellite, the first living animal in space, and the first man in space, the United States felt the need to beat the Soviets to the moon. They sent astronauts across 240,000 miles to their destination. On July 20, 1969, astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed safely on the moon. Apollo 11 was a success. The United States had triumphed over the Soviet union and Communism and had set itself ahead in science and engineering. The lunar landing is an example of humanity's ingenuity, willpower, and ability to expand it's horizons.
