• “I’m never getting out of bed again.” I declared sullenly, violently ripping the cord to my alarm clock out of the wall. After just getting to bed not even an hour before I did not at all appreciate the obnoxious screeching in my ear.
“Joni get UP!” my mother yelled banging on the door. Another obnoxious screech, only this one didn’t shut up on command. “You have school in ten minuets and so help me if you skip another day you’re gunna have to figure out how to sleep standing!!”
“Good morning to you too.” I thought to myself remaining right where I was. Most kids wouldn’t be caught dead waking up at 7:30 in the morning in the middle of summer break, but then again most kids didn’t have their mother breathing down their necks constantly nagging them to get better and better grades in school. I could hear her screeching voice yapping out “We have a reputation to uphold you know. You must show everyone that you will live up to it!” By ‘we’ she meant herself of course. I couldn’t even blink without hearing those annoying words in my head. So freaking aggravating!! And she wonders why I never tell her anything. She doesn’t know the hell I go through every day at that stupid summer school of hers, but even it’s better then the hell I go through at home, so I reluctantly dragged myself out of bed and pulled my brush through my hair.
After two strokes I realized that I hadn’t slept long enough to even mess it up, so I gave up, throwing the brush onto my bed and stepping out of yesterday’s clothes at the same time. I had been up so late last night texting my friend across the country that I hadn’t even bothered changing before I collapsed onto my bed.
Before my mother could come back and nag me some more I pulled on a clean pair of jeans and a tee-shirt and climbed out my bedroom window. My room was on the first story of this freaking huge house my mom upgraded to. She tried to get me to sleep in an equally huge room complete balcony upstairs but I wouldn’t have it. Her perfect little princess must have the perfect little room you know, Bagh! My hair was already down to my knees because she won’t let me cut it, I have no life because she won’t let me have one, but there was no freaking way I was going to play Repunsil for her too! And that’s that!
I walked around to the front gate and found my backpack sitting in the middle of the path with a note pinned to it reading; ‘GO TO SCHOOL!!!!!!’ As if I didn’t get the picture already. I thought seriously about just side-stepping the bag and continuing on my way, but I knew that it would only make things worse, so I grabbed it instead. Just then I realized how truly exhausted I was. The bag weighed a ton, or at least that’s what it felt like. I let out a huge yawn until my jaw popped, and took a step towards the lesser of two evils.
