• When Darkness Falls…
    Chapter 1

Sophia walked through the dark lonely streets of Asterdale, vamps, demons, and weres. She knew they were out there, they just hadn’t figured out that not all humans were close minded. It was late, she knew her mother was going to have a harry when she saw her, she had multiple bruises all over her; her bottom lip was split and bleeding. Basically she looked like an angry mob had just made a failed attempted to kill her.
Walking down Alsone Avenue she turns and starts to walk up a short driveway to her home, 2380 Alsone Ave.

Allina Coleson waited at the kitchen table reading a mystery/romance novel waiting for her daughter, Sophia, to show up. She was late and way over curfew, again.
“God I try and I try but nooo! I am a good mother, she’ll be home soon, I hope.” Allina muttered. Just as she was getting up to lock the doors, the front door opened quietly and if she hadn’t already been up she wouldn’t have even noticed Sophia walk in.
“Where have you been? Come on what’s your excuse this tim-…” her words trailed off as she caught sight of Sophie’s injuries.
“Ohmigod!! Sophie!! What happened?!” Allina touched her daughters’ battered cheek softly, only to withdraw when Sophie winced.
“Nice to see you too mom…” she said dryly.
“Vamps or demons this time, Hun?” Allina said softly sitting down.
“How about I go about halfway and say, supercallafragalisticexpaladoshis.” Sophie muttered just loud enough for her mom to hear. Saying that extremely long word was a mother daughter code which basically meant, ‘don’t want to talk about it or even go there mom…’ sighing Allina nodded in understanding.
“Okay, but we do need to have a meeting with David one of these day.” Allina said standing and walking around the table to give her a kiss on the cheek.
    “G’night, Soph.”
“Night, mom. See you in the morning.” Sophie sighs sitting down at the table. She missed David so much, he was her brother. Well he was dead but he just hadn’t really left yet.
“Hey princess, another attack from evil. Am I right?” David, translucent as he was only mom and her could hear him and see him.
“Oh shut it…I’m in no mood for you saying in your own ghostly way, ‘I told ya so’.” She rested her head on the cool table top.
“Well it was you who vowed to fight evil until it was gone from your life, and guess what the council took you up on the offer!! Now look where you are! I told you not to worry about me, but oh no you had to go out that night!!” David was pretty much yelling at her.
“Davy please go bug someone ghostly, which wouldn’t happen to me, since I’m still in my body and breathing.” She snapped at him, getting up from the table to run to her room. Opening her door she slips into her room and closes the door softly behind her, slipping out of her cloths and into her pajamas.

Morning…Sun light streamed into Sophia’s room, it was a beautiful day. A new start in a new town. Fun…

Sophie walked into the principal’s office right on time for their meeting; she sat down in one of the chairs in front of his desk. Looking down at the name plate she found out that his name was Mr. G. Newman. It suited him, his office basically said, ‘neat freak!’ Mr. Newman walked in and shut the door, walking over to his desk he sat down and smiled kindly at Sophie. He had brown black hair, you could tell he was desperately trying to appear that he wasn’t going bald, and his smile, reminded Sophie of a mouse or rat.
“Miss. Coleson, it is my understanding that your new to Asterdale, how do you like the town so far?” he said smiling, leaning forward on his desk.
“Umm, it’s pretty good I guess. I’m new here and I just want a fresh start so can we talk about my classes now?” Sophie said pulling out the papers her mom had signed.
In about half an hour later Sophie walked out of the office and went to find her locker.

Dusk walked down the busy hallway at Aster high, same boring people, same boring hallway. Nothing ever changes in this miserable town, which means nothing ever changes in this boring miserable school…Dusk thought staring off into space as he walked.
Sophie sighed looking at the numbers on the lockers as she walked by; she was looking for locker number 335. Finding it at last she starts to do the combination, “Ok, so 5, 10, 13.” She mutters to herself silently, just as she was putting her stuff in and opening the locker door she steps back causing her to bump right into a guy, again.
“Oh my god! I’m so sorry I’m such a cluts!” she says helping him up.
Dusk looked at this blond beauty, or not. He thought looking her up and down, she was new around here, he could tell by her smell and the way she was acting.
“No no it’s okay, I was…deep in thought and didn’t notice you.” He smiles holding out a hand.
“Name’s Dusk, weird I know it is. But your new here aren’t you?”
“Uh, yeah is it that noticeable? Cause I really try to fit in, failure one, success zero.” She mutters closing her locker and locking it.
“I’m Sophia, most just call me Sophie. It was nice meeting you Dusk, but I have to go find my classes, see you later I guess.” She says running down the hall. Well I guess this town might get a little livelier after all, there’s something very different about this little minx. He thought walking out side into the sun light.
“Better go find the gang and let them know about little Sophia…” he said walking down the street to a starbucks.

Sophia sighed walking out of her last class, is ‘NEW KID’ stamped on my forehead, god if another random person says ‘hi are you new?’ or ‘hi your new here aren’t you? Would you like me to show you around?’ I think I’m gonna have to hurt some body!! Sophie thought dropping off her books in her locker and heading out of the school.
As she walked home she noticed some shadows moving and she had this strange sense that she was being watched, probably just some demons or baby vamps looking for some thing to chew on. She thought wistfully, but then she heard a struggle in the local grave yard moving quickly but silently she hides behind a tree to see what was going on. And sure enough a newly risen vampire was fighting with a guy, probably a grave robber and caught this guy rising.
Then the supposed grave robber pulled out a stake and dusted the vampire, Sophia gaped at the sight of him, he was that guy from school what was his name? Dusk? Yeah that’s who it was. “Oh my-..” she was cut off by a hand going over her mouth. Her eyes widen and she struggles against her capturer mumbling against his hand “Let me go! Your gonna regret this, pal!” she bites his hand and he lets go of her cursing in pain. “Dusk we got us a wild one!” he yelled at the guy named Dusk.
He walks over to see what the commotion was all about and sees that it was that girl from school, Sophia or Sophie. “Easy AJ she’s a fighter, I could tell that from today at school when I bumped into her. Leave her be she’s been trained to search and destroy demons and vampires alike.” Dusk said looking at Sophie. She was blond with green eyes, skinny but not to much she was about 5 feet 6 inches tall and her fire was unmissable.
Sophie looked up at the two, Dusk she could tell had broad shoulders, brown hair that was almost black with blond tips at the ends, dark seeing eyes that seemed to take all the light away and make everything darker. At what she could tell he was about 6 feet 3 inches tall and he looked intimidating, very intimidating. She wasn’t really paying any attention to the other guy all of her attention was on this mysterious Dusk.
“What are you? You certainly not human, I can tell by the way you talk and walk and the way you dusted that vamp.” She smiled looking up into his eyes.
    “I’m a half breed.”
    “Of what?”
“My mother was a human, and my father was a Vampire. Does that answer any other questions?” he said coldly, with out waiting for an answer he brushed past her and led his companion into the shadows where they seemed to be swallowed up by the darkness and disappear.
“Wow that was really strange…David is going to have a hay day on this, and so is mom…” she muttered shaking her head as she headed for home.
Watching from the shadows, Dusk watched as she left the grave yard no doubt a little shaken by the quick encounter. She was beautiful and he had sent his hybrid friend home because he didn’t want to get to close to her. The prophecy said that a young woman worrier would claim a half breed vampire who was born one as her mate. Dusk was the chosen one, but he didn’t want to be but fate was a b***h that came back to bite you in the a** if you tried to screw her over, Destiny on the other hand could change in the blink of an eye and your world could be destroyed because of one stupid mistake. That’s why Dusk didn’t want to have a mate; he wanted to protect people from his dark and dangerous nature. But he knew that if he got too close to Sophie that he wouldn’t be able to stop himself from claiming her as his.
His job was to protect the innocents from the evils that threatened to destroy the world, humans today didn’t understand the evils that were in the world, they thought them as fairytales to scare children and make them behave for their parents. But they had no idea what evils lurked in the shadows, finally figuring that she was out of harms way Dusk started to head home. His father would still be up, probably drinking some blood or soothing his mother from some quick love making before he got home from his daily patrol.
