• CHAPTER 1

I look in the mirrior as i try on the beautiful green gown that my Aunt Lisa gave me last Saturday to wear for this special night. I tie my hair up in a bun and I look 10 years older... Im only 13 I cant be looking in my 20's. But like Ma always says, "Older the better!" Oh how i wish earth was like that. Its always the young look thats in. At least im only there during tours. Than i cant live my life here. A knock on the door startles me. "Who is it?" I whisper. "Its mom! Come down, the prince wants to see what you look like. Be sure to wear your hair in a bun!" She heads back down stairs. I sigh... sad "Why, out of all the royal princesess, me." My ma and dad set me up to marry the prince of the south. Great, just another snob i have to entertain. I open my door, take a deep breath and walk slowely down stairs. Their all sitting at a table talking about land and political issues when my dad clears his throat as a gesture to look at me. I hate it when he does that... its so embaressing. "Why Miss Shallow, so glad you could join us." The King of The South stands up. "This is my son, Brandon." He wasnt bad looking but outside looks dont mean anything till you see the inside. I, of course, curtsy and try not to roll my eyes. "Please to meet you Prince Brandon." He, of course, takes my hand and kisses it. "No, the pleasure is all mine." Oh my god. i... im blushing. Uh oh. "Franc!" My mother calls for our chef. "Yes madam?" "Get me your finest wine." He sighs, "Yes, right away!" He rushes toward the kitchen. Brandon, on the other side of the table from me, doesnt stop looking at me. I dont be rude and look over his sholder out through the window so he thinks im looking at him. Its dark and i cant see a thing... wait. I start to see a dark figure get bigger and bigger. Into the form of almost a flying man... A flying man?! Am i crazy! Nope... it just keeps coming and coming. Not much longer my mother sees it and yells. "Brandon move!" She grabs me as Brandon jumps out of the way. The glass window shatters as a dark figure jumps in the dining room. My mother trys to get me to run but i stand there refusinf to go as a stare at the tall man. And alas, he speaks. "Hand over the girl or a kill the queen." He has ahold of the queen of the south with a dagger to her neck. "M... me?" My voice cracks. My ma hits me trying to get me to shut up. But he heard me... "Yes you. Now come with me girl or i kill the queen." I step forward. "Ill come. In order to save the South." He looks at me with a sinistor smile... and at that moment i relized i was screwed.
