    Lies, Love, and Pain
    Chapter 2 – Always Wanting What You Can’t Have

    Today was the first day of school. The day I would be starting my high school career, I guess you could say. I walked onto the campus, looking around to see if I could find any one of my friends.

    After twenty minutes of so-called friend searching, I finally found my best friend Ashley. It’s kind of weird though, that she is my best friend. Out of all of my other friends, that I have known a lot longer, she turns out to be my best friend. I only just met her last year.

    The bell rang, and school has now officially started. Summer was now over, unfortunately.

    I strayed from my path to the right classroom, I got lost and confused. Who doesn’t? I was thinking to myself, trying to get to the right room. When I walked into a room full of people I had never even seen before. Now I definitely knew I was lost.

    Luckily, the teacher wasn’t too particularly annoyed about it. The only people that were, were the seniors that were in the classroom; who had apparently found me being lost amusing. The somewhat nice teacher pointed me in the right direction and had written me a pass, apparently. I was late. Gee, I wonder why?

    ~~~~~~~~~~
    I stumbled into the room, nearly falling flat on my face. I could hear the sounds of my fellow classmate’s giggles echoing throughout the classroom.
    “How immature…” I exclaimed to myself.
    “You must be Mr.…” The lankly teacher’s voice trailed off as he searched her clipboard, looking for my name, no doubt.
    “Mr. Tanner”
    Lucky guess
    One look at her face, and you could tell she wasn’t amused. “You’re late!” she explained.
    I fumbled through my pockets for the pass the previous teacher had given me, and opened my mouth to explain.
    “I got lost, but I have a pass.” I handed her the pass.
    She gave me a quizzical look and said, “Okay, just don’t let this become a habit.”
    “I won’t.” I said only half-telling the truth. Truth be told, this room had an odd feeling about it, I don’t think I liked it too much. Just a very weird aura, now I’m no psychic or anything, I just have weird feelings about certain things. And, I’m usually right.
    “Your seat will be in the back with…“ She stopped mid-sentence to take another look at that clipboard of hers. “Damian…Kent.”
    I look towards the back of the room, and see only one empty seat, right next to this great looking guy.
    Excellent! First day of school and I already have a crush on a guy that not only will I never have any kind of chance to be with, but I don’t even know him. Great way to start off the school year Robby, just great! Thanks, Mrs. Witchie!
    Putting my thoughts aside, I slowly waded my through the classroom to the back, where my assigned seat was stationed.
    Oh, how I hated assigned seating; mainly, because I had always gotten to sit near idiots. You know, the girl who is more worried about her make-up, boys, and all the latest gossip. Or, the guy who is trying to pull off some ridiculously stupid stunt, or is just sports obsessed and talks about nothing but sports.
    I swear, if this guy is an idiot, I’m going to scream! And, I really don’t care about the consequences, If I happen to do so.
    I sat down at the table that I assumed I was going to share with this 'Damian' guy throughout the year.
    “Goody! Year-long crush torture. I just couldn’t wait!” I thought to myself.
    A few seconds later, Mrs. Bentley started to blab on about the syllabus and what we would be doing throughout the school year. I listened, really I did, for about a good three seconds.
    I was then suddenly pulled away from my thoughts when Damian had started to say something. I thought it was important, so I tuned in.
    “God, nobody cares!” He silently said, just so that only the teacher wouldn’t hear. I made out with a slight giggle, it was truthfully funny. Mostly, because it was true; nobody in the room had seemed to care what she was saying at all, me included.
    He seemed to notice that I had found his comment seemingly funny and turned towards me with a slight grin. “You know, that was a pretty sweet “fumble” you did walking into class.” He said to me with a light chuckle. “Sure made my day.”
    I gave a meek grin and replied back, “Thanks…I think.” He marveled to himself once again. Was I really that funny? ”I’m glad I could please somebody today.” I was trying to hold back my sarcasm, and failing horribly. He only laughed again.
    He held out his hand, gesturing for a handshake. How cute, but who does handshakes anymore? Oh, well. I grabbed his hand, and shook it.
    “Damian.” He said gingerly shaking my hand.
    Of course, I knew that already, but it was nice for a proper introduction. And so, I too introduced myself, “Robby.”
    I think I just made friends with the ultimate crush. Somehow, that didn’t sit to easy in my stomach. Maybe I was hungry…
    ~~~~~~~~~~

    Two and a half classes later, I’m sitting here waiting for that wretched bell to ring, so that I could get some lunch. I was starving; I didn’t get a chance to grab anything for breakfast this morning. I was beginning to wish that I had.
    I was practically counting down the minutes, and the time just seemed to drag on and on. I think it was just the teacher’s monotone voice though. I swear, even if he had screamed right this millisecond, it would sound the same as it did twenty minutes ago. Like that guy from that stupid Clear Eyes commercial, oh, how I hated that guy.

    I was beginning to think, this class would never end, when that familiar ringing sound started reverberating through my ears. Finally!

    Mr. Wadowski was still blabbing on about WWII, as the students piled into the halls, and out of his classroom.

    “Hooray for food!” I silently said to myself, as I made my way to the cafeteria.
    I waited by the doors, for Ashley and Jessica. Jessica was my other best friend. She may not be any Ashley, but she certainly had a spot in my heart and I loved her. I basically had one best friend when they were together, one really good one. They were almost opposites.

    It didn’t take them very long to get there, and before long we were heading into the cafeteria.

    ~~~~~~~~~~
    Fifteen minutes later, after satisfying my hungry appetite. We sat in an area where the rest of our friends were, just hanging out, joking, laughing, you know, what friends do best.
    “Anything important happen today?” Ashley had asked Jessica and me.
    I was replaying my day so far in my head while Jessica had beaten me to the punch.
    Not really, just some stupid boring teachers talking about school, rules, and dumb assigned seating; nothing overly spectacular.”
    Ashley had nodded in agreement, and then cocked her head towards me, insinuating the same question.
    I answered, “Well, I got lost…met a nice teacher…was late to first period and I’m going to be sitting next to this amazingly gorgeous guy all year long.”
    Sighs of shock could be heard from either sides of me.
    Jessica was the first one to speak. “Oh, my god…who is he? You’ve got to tell me.” Boy, she was excitedly bossy.
    “I don’t really know, his name is Damian, and did I mention he talked to me and I touched his hand? Well, I shook it.”
    “O-M-G, you touched him!”
    Ashley was getting annoyed by now. “Would you stop?”
    “Sorry, I’m just excited. Our Robby’s found a special someone.” She said calmly sitting back down…sort of. I saw the confused looks of the rest of our friends; I assured them everything was okay.
    “Excited about what? It’s not he kissed the guy or anything…” She said. “Did you?” That last part, directed towards me.
    “No, but I really, really wanted to.” I answered. “Okay, can we please not talk about this anymore?” I pleaded.
    “Not until you show us this guy you’re already starting to fall head over heels for.” Jessica had stated.
    I debated within myself on whether or not I should. I decided I would.
    “Fine, but lets get one thing straight…I do not, nor will I ever wear heels.”
    We left our table of our endless peers. We left them to ponder our sudden disappearance.
    ~~~~~~~~~~

    After about fifteen minutes of searching, I was about ready to give up. Let’s face it, I was ready to give up before we even started.

    “Oooooo, how ‘bout him?” Jessica said pointing to random emo kid. She’s got to be kidding me.

    “For the last time, no!” I told her. That was the fifth time she had suggested it was him. They all kind of look the same though.

    “Sorry, all seven of them look the same.”

    “That may be, but I’m not into emo guys Jess. Why do they look the same?”
    Ashley finally piped in, “That is because they’re in and emo gang.” I almost laughed at that one.

    “An emo gang?” I questioned. “You can’t be serious.” Jessica just snickered at the thought of it.

    “Fine, don’t believe me.” I just laughed.

    My obnoxiously loud laughter was abruptly cut short when I had spotted the very person we were searching for.

    I stopped dead in my tracks, pointed and said, “Him.” simple, and to the point.
    They stopped and turned to see.

    Let’s make one thing certain. Ashley and I, we, a lot of times agree on what kinds of guys are ‘hot’. But, on more than on occasion, we tend to disagree. This was one of those times. We may be very best friends, but we weren’t always thinking the same things, not even close.

    “That’s it?” She questioned so harshly.

    Luckily, Jess and I always agree on guys.

    “What are you talking about? He’s freaking gorgeous.” She replied. “And, I think he is looking over here. Maybe he’s checking you out Robby?” She was joking…I think.

    “What? No way…” Sure enough, he was looking in our direction.
    And then, I knew why, when he gestured for us to come over. My legs wouldn’t move.

    Luckily, I had my two best friends with me, and they guided me over; feeling sympathetic of course.

    He opened his mouth to speak, and I was glued to his heavenly lips. “You busy Friday night?” Was he asking me out? No way! I couldn’t believe it.
    “Not that I know of…why?” I questioned.

    “Well, I’m having this party on Friday, and was wondering if you wanted to come. You can bring these two if you want.” He was talking about Ashie, and Jess. Don’t you just love their nicknames I gave them?

    I was speechless. Once again, they were there to save the day. “We’ll be there.” They said in almost perfectly rehearsed unison.

    “Great! I will give you all the directions and such, tomorrow, in class.” Said the beautiful angel.

    “Okay.” Was all that I had manages. And we were off like firecrackers.
    The three of us made our way to a more secluded place to discuss what had just happened.

    Ashley sure was annoyed. “Always wanting what you cant have, Robby. That is, and will always be your problem.”
