• Sharyll woke up to clicking on her window. She jumped out of bed and looked out, -it was still dark- she slowly opened the window. Paint flakes came up from the old house’s window pane as she looked out. A soft echo was on the wind as the breeze went through her hair. She noticed that there was a shadow standing down below, and as soon as she did, it jumped up at her. A quiet curse left her lips as she dropped to the floor. Without a sound, her intruder landed in the far corner of the room. She rose up to her full height and held up her fists. She was calculating which would be easier, to fight or jump out the open window, when she noticed his eyes. Not only were they larger than normal, but they had the same hazel rim that haunted all her memories. She knew who she was looking at, ‘Jordan.’ “Get out!” All their memories together came rushing back, along with a bitter taste in her mouth. She was shocked to see him, were ‘they’ after her again? “What do you want!? Why did you come and to me?!” He began to explain how ‘the Lab’ had captured him, but he escaped solely to apologize to her once more. “You’re a monster now. I saw something in you before but…” She made her voice more stern and continued, “I can’t help what you’ve become, but you can’t just come back. Leave.” She watched the moonlight reveal his form as he walked to the window, she could see his expression turn to despair as he went and then the wings dragging behind him. He jumped from the ledge and flew away into the night. “At least not yet,” she said quietly, and felt a light chill along her own hidden, black wings.
