• Wynter Ann sat on the grass, reading Anne Of Green Gables. Her book report was due next Friday, and she never read it. I would have! She thought to herself. If Gina and Lisa didn't meet me everyday........ Wynnie sighed as she read the las chapter. Her eyes widened. "Wow." She said. "Gilbert Blythe and Anne. I knew they'd end up friends.........." Wynter smiled brightly, then her face fell.

"At least Annie had friends. Unlike you, Wynter." An ice cold voice sneered. Wynter looked up at Gina Brown, Popular Princess and twin of Lisa Brown. "Aren't I right, Lise?" She asked her sister. Lisa hesitantly nodded.

"L-le-" Wynter began, then stopped herself. Who am I kidding? I'm such a dummy. Wynter thought to herself. Gina looked at Wynnie as she thought to herself.

"Ha! Look at that, Lisa, Wynter's a dumb daydreamer!" Gina said. Lisa laughed nervously. Gina Brown and Lisa Brown. The two Populars of my school. Lisa follows her sister around like a shadow, though. She doesn't seem so bad after all...... Wynter thought to herself as she stood up. "Leaving, are you?" Gina asked, her voice loud and clear. Wynter shrunk.

"G-Gina, I think we should just leave Wy-" Lisa stopped herself.

"Leave her alone? Leave 'ittle bittle WynWyn alone?" Gina imitated, her voice honeysweet. Wynter couldn't take it anymore. Her eyes filled with tears as she ran off, leaving her book behind.

"Gina." Lisa said, crossing her arms. "You and your put downs." She said, storming off. Gina looked a bit flustered, then crossed her own arms.

"Dumb Lisa! Dumb Wynter!" Gina grumbled.

Wynter sat at the dinner table, silent and red faced. Her mother looked at her, concerned. "I don't want to talk about it." Wynter said. Her mother opened her mouth, but closed it. She nodded, and left the table. Wynter sat there for a few moments, then burst into tears.

Meanwhile, Joseph McDonald was moving in a few houses away. His father was at work while he and his mother unpacked.

"Joe, why don't you go and play while I help?" Mrs. McDonald asked her son. Joseph nodded reluctantly, and rushed off on his bike. The fair breeze rushed through him, and adrenaline filled him as he cycled around his new neighborhood. Wynter was sitting in her front yard, transfixed in the clouds above her. Joseph passed by her house, and stopped. He watched her as she closed her eyes, daydreaming.

"Hi." Joseph said, smiling. Wynter sat up, bewildered. She winced. "What's wrong?" He asked, suddenly worried at the tear streamed face.

"N-nothing." Wynter said. "Leave me alone." She added icily. Joseph was taken aback.

"F-fine. I only wanted to help." He cycled off. Wynter sighed, as she lay back down on the long grass, again daydreaming. Maybe I should have been nicer........She mentally scolded herself for being so rude. Joseph was only being nice.

The weekend soon arrived, and Wynter was finally finished with her report. She was relaxed now, however, Gina Brown and Lisa were still harassing her. Wynter was walking her dog around the neighborhood. She needed to clear her mind. She passed by Joseph's house several times now, but never once looked at it. Mrs. McDonald was sitting on the front porch, secretly watching the young girl.

"Joey, hon, I think that girl is waiting for you." She finally said as Wynter was heading back to her house. Joseph looked up from his comic book. He shook his head, and went back to reading. Mrs. McDonald looked at her son from Wynter, and sighed.

"Okay, okay." Joseph said, exasperated. He rushed from the porch and caught up to Wynter. "Oy, you." He said quite shyly. Wynter turned around and smiled a small smile.

"I wanted to say sorry." She replied softly and solemnly, looking down at the sidewalk. Joseph shook his head.

"No worries." He answered, with a bright smile. Wynter smiled back. For a moment or so, the two stood there, in the middle of the driveway, smiling. Finally, the two burst into laughs. "I'm Joey McDonald." Joseph said, holding out his hand. Wynter took it and shook it. Joseph had brown, curly hair and green eyes. His figure was well built, and he was at least a head taller than Wynter.

"Wynter Ann Harlington. But it's Wynnie." Wynter laughed, smiling. She was a bit uncomfortable, as Mrs. McDonald was watching them. She hated being watched. It was a bit annoying to her.

"Nice to meet you, Wynnie. Do you want to walk with me to school on Monday?" Joseph asked hopefully. He didn't want to be lonely at his new school. Wynter nodded. "Okay!" He said, a bit too cheerfully. "Err......I meant , okay." Wynter laughed.

"Okay, well, I have to go now." Wynter said, realizing the two had been holding hands for quite some time now. She let go, and rushed off. Joseph watched her, and smiled.

    "Sucessful, Joey?" Mrs. McDonald asked.

    "Yes." Joseph answered, smiling slyly.
