• The single, red, rose petal
Charlotte was at her window looking out when Ben (the new guy that had moved in to the end of the street) rode by on his bike, he smiled at her and waved. Charlotte was a shy girl who didn’t talk much. She was very pretty and had lots of friends and loved life in general.

Over a few months charlotte got to know Ben really well. Ben, like her, had lots of friends and they constantly bumped into each other. Charlotte really liked Ben and when he asked her out she was overjoyed! She said yes immediately! She began to talk more and grew more confident. All of her friends noticed the changed and liked it.

On Valentines Day, Ben gave Charlotte a single red rose petal. Charlotte put it in a locket and wore it everyday! They were in love and it was obvious.

Charlotte really liked Ben but they had rows, like every couple. It was then when it happened. Charlotte was on the phone to Ben and they were in the middle of a row. Charlotte went to cross a usually quiet road as a bus was coming. She thought she would miss it but didn’t. The bus hit her. She died on the spot with her locket in her hand.

Ben was heart broken but he tried to get over it. It was only a week away from her birthday and Ben had already brought her a present. It was a locket with ‘Forever’ engraved on it. He had also brought her a bight white fake rose.

On the night of Charlotte’s birthday, Ben took a knife from the kitchen draw and got the rose out. He rested his hand on the rose petals and cut deep into his wrists.

Ben died that night. Because of his love and longing for Charlotte. The once white rose is now red and lays in the middle of their joining graves. On both headstones it says ‘Died for the love and longing for another’.

If you peel away the petals of the carefully, there was a message written by Ben for Charlotte, it says ‘I love you and always will, when I die I will love you and when you die, I will to.’ He didn’t know just how true that was.
