• I'm not normal. I mean, I know everyone's different, it's just... Well, I'm differenter (if that's even a word) than others. Here, this is what happened...

It was a Friday. 5 minutes till the end of the last day of school. I asked out the girl I had a crush on since 3rd grade (I'm in 9th grade) and I wasn't rejected for the first time. Our son of a... nevermind, teacher was absent today, and we had my favorite (and everyone else's favorite) substitute teacher. We got our report cards, and I got (for the first time in... well, for the first time) straight A's. Today was turning out to be the best day of my life.

    That's when it happened.

Obviously, like some sort of weird tracking device implanted in their tiny brains, the class asses Jake and Kimmy (don't ask why he was named Kimmy) knew it was my best day ever, and set out to stop it. When I was walking down the hallway to get to class from the bathroom, they jumped me. Litterally. "Hey, buddy," Kimmy said while sitting on my stomach to pin me down and make it hard to breathe. "Yeah, hey buddy," Jake repeated stupidly, who I couldn't see at that moment but judging from the feeling of intense pressure, direction of his voice, and feeling like my legs are gonna break I guessed was, you guessed it, on my legs. "Shut up, idiot," Kimmy ordered forcefully. "Hey, what are you doing?" I asked hoarsly, due to the fact that Kimmy was on my stomach. "We noticed you were having a good day, and no good day is complete without hanging out with your best friends," Kimmy said. "Yeah, hanging out with your best friends," Jake repeated. "I said shut up, idiot," Kimmy said again. Jake wimpered and pouted. "Anyway, we heard you were going out with Megan Chiara now," Kimmy continued, looking at me and smiling evily. "What of it?" I responded, feeling a little panicky, seeing as these two always do something to stuff, and people, I really start to like. "Oh, we haven't done anything...yet," Kimmy said, still smirking. "We just wanted to tell you, if you don't break up with her by the end of the day, she's gonna find something... interesting on the ground on her way home." Now, I don't know about anyone else, but usually by now I'd have the two of them off me and running down the hall to class, but when they threaten me before they do it, that "something interesting" might be a small bomb that will at least paralyse her for a few days. "You sons of bitches better not do anything to her," I growled, pushing Jake off my legs and struggling to get Kimmy off me.

Then there was the flash of light. And Kimmy... Wait, where was Kimmy? I couldn't think of that, being there was a frikkin'... I don't know, red demon thing. "Hey, buddy, so your one of them" the demon thing said, in... "Oh, god, Kimmy!" The things voice was deeper and much raspier, like a reptilian's voice might sound like, but it was definitely Kimmy. It smiled. "Bingo." My head was reeling, mostly because he was still on my stomach and now he weighed at least 100 pounds more than earlier, and also that he was a demon, and that just scared the living s**t out of me. "Get your a** off me, you giant son of a b***h," I gasped through clenched teeth. "Fine, since you don't have a sword yet, I'll let you breath for a few minutes, before you die," he said, grinning. He got up, and I inhaled a huge amount of air, and started coughing from air deprivation. I looked around and noticed we were in a prairie with nothing around but grass being blown down the wind. "Now, time for you to die!" Kimmy sneered, and lunged. I put my hands up, like that would do something to protect me. Suddenly, there was an explosion, and I was flung back 100 feet, my right hand suddenly heavy.

I stood up, a little dazed, and looked around. Kimmy was gone, and so was everything within a 50 mile radius. I was standing at the bottom of a huge crater. My right arm felt really heavy, and, fearing I had hurt it horribly, I looked down and saw a huge stone sword. "What the..." I muttered, when suddenly a huge flash of light appeared in front of me. I looked up, and standing there was a tall, beautiful girl that was around my age, maybe a little younger. "You the noob?" She said, looking at me with a raised eyebrow, which really irked me. "What are you talking about?" I asked her, looking at her with a questioning stare. She sighed exasperatedly, then looked around, and paled. I mean, like, ghost pale. "Oh, my go... You did this?" she practically shouted at me. "What!? How could I do that? What's going on, anyway? Why did Kimmy turn into a demon? What caused that explosion? How did I get here, anyway? Why am I holding a huge stone sword? And who the hell are you, anyway?" I said, my voice rising in volume with every word until I was screaming at the top of my lungs at her. "How should I know! You should just come with me and ask the Master Commander!" she shouted back, and before I could ask her what the hell that is, she had me on the ground and had her hand raised, looking like she was gonna knock me out, but before she punched me, she said, "My name is Kaia Tynte." Next thing I knew, I was out and she was taking me to God knows where.

That day was the day my life was changed forever, and my best friend (and later, worst enemy) would be Kaia Tynte...

A while later, I woke up in my bed at home. Thank god that was just a dream, I thought as I sat up. Then I saw the sword propped up against a wall. "Good morning, sleeping beauty," said a voice. I looked out my window and almost fell out of my bed. There, floating outside my window, was that girl from the field. "You- What- Er- Ack-," I stuttered as I pointed wildly at her. "AJ, you awake hun?" Mom called into my room. "Uh, yeah, Mom," I said, still staring at the girl outside my window (Kaia, I think her name was). "Well, hurry your butt up and get downstairs. Breakfast is ready, and someone is here to see you," Mom said, then walked away. "You better get dressed," Kaia said, then disappeared. What the hell? I thought as I pulled my pajamas off and put on some random clothes from my dresser.

When I walked into the kitchen, I nearly jumped out of my clothes (again). My dad was talking to Megan at the kitchen table, no doubt telling one of the millions of embarasing baby stories of me that he never freaking ran out of. Megan was laughing so hard she was crying as my dad continued the story of me in the bathtub when I was 1 and was spinning around in circles, spraying everyone with water and making me look like one of those weird optical illusions (How the hell could I do that?) when I cleared my throat. They both jumped. "Oh, hey AJ," Megan said, breathless from laughing so hard. "Hey, Megan, what's up?" I said, sitting down next to her. "Oh, your dad invited me over," she responded, looking at my dad. "Oh, yeah, right..." My dad muttered, looking at the table like he was thinking of why he had called her to our house. "Now why did call her to our house?..." See, told you. "Oh, right. Alexandro (he's the only person who calls me by my whole name) you recently 'released', have you not?" I stared at him blankly. "Huh? What the he... ck (I don't cuss around my parents) does that mean Dad?" I asked. "Ah, right, I keep forgetting you only recently met Kaia," he muttered, scratching his head. "I guess I must explain..."

    END OF CHAPTER ONE.
