• Daniel moved away two days later. Yeah, I was sad and stuff, but I knew even if he stayed, it wouldn’t have lasted. The next two days for me were miserable and annoying. People at school were constantly asking me questions about Daniel, and it turns out that I didn’t know him as well as I thought I did. They kept asking me what his favorite foods were, if I missed the scent of his cologne-the sad part was that I didn’t even know that he wore cologne. It turns out that he was a lot of things that I didn’t see. But one of the things that he was famous for was something that I didn’t really like. “You know that Daniel once dated three girls at the same time?” I was stunned by what Jackie had to say. “What?” I asked. She completely ignored me and said, “He also dates an average of seventeen girls a year.” I flipped open my phone and texted Daniel.

Me: WE’RE OVR! WE’LL STAY IN TOUCH IS SUCH A LIE!
Daniel: what r u talking about?!
Me: u ttly know what im talkin about! U dated 3 girls at the same time
Daniel: well that was a long time ago

I stopped texting Daniel and asked Jackie, “How long ago did Daniel date 3 girls at the same time?” She thought for a moment and said, “Two months ago.”

Me: Jackie said it was 2 months ago!
Daniel: so now ur investigating me?
    Me: I have a right 2 know!
    Daniel: whatevs.
Me: alrite then. Bye!! ^ - ^ hopefully we can still b friends

I closed my phone and shoved it in my pocket. A minute later, my phone rang its text message tone. “Aren’t you going to take that?” Elissa asked. I saw who it was from and said, “No,” as I shook my head. “Oh,” she looked down. My phone rang once again except my normal ringtone. “I guess you’re not answering that either,” Jackie said. “You’re right. See you after school.” I walked to my next class, biology, which of course I was failing. There was some aspect of it that I didn’t really get.

“Alexa, your test,” Mr. Barriet said as he handed me a set of stapled papers. I saw it and in red felt tip pen was two numbers written hugely on it. Sadly, it was a 54%. “Alexa, you might want to consider a tutor. I’ll talk to you after class.” Not only was I embarrassed practically to death, but my dad was going to be SO angry. My parents got divorced four years ago and I was left with my father because my mom moved to Europe with her new husband, or my stepfather, William Hayes.

The hour period of biology seemed to last forever, even in my blanked out state of consciousness. “Alexa,” Mr. Barriet called me over, “You will definitely need a tutor for biology tutor, but not by an adult, but by a student. I have heard from your parent or guardian that you have had previous tutors in biology and math, so obviously that didn’t work.” I looked down at my Converse shoes in disappointment, “My top student and Mrs. Carson’s best student is Jeremy Finskil. He will be your tutor. Come to this room eighth period with him and we’ll start up the studying.”

I met Jeremy at the end of seventh period in front of his locker-which I didn’t notice before-was two lockers down from mine. “Hi,” I said. “Do I know you?” He asked. “You’re supposed to be my tutor,” I answered feeling awkward. “Oh, let’s go then.” We started to walk to the biology room. “Just on time,” Mr. Barriet said, “I see you met each other already. Today, you will be working on the review questions on page seventy-four. If Alexa doesn’t understand something, then Jeremy, you will explain it to her. I’ll be out for five minutes, stay here and work.” He left peering back into the room before walking away. “Sometimes I wonder where he thinks we’re going to go. Anyways, let’s get started.” He sighed and we both reached for the textbook and our hands touched, our eyes met, and sparks flew.
