• Chapter 1: The beginning

Nya Shinigami was an abnormal being. She could not be categorized into any particular group of people. She had never been normal. As normal as a vampire hunter could ever hope to be. Nya had been a pure blood vampire, meaning she was born to the main branch. She would never fit in because of her abilities and lack of. Nya, to put it simply, was a vampire hunting vampire.
The surprising fact about this silken haired, beauty was her lack of bloodlust. She figured out long ago that she did not live on blood. Oh no, that didn’t mean she didn’t or couldn’t drink blood, she just didn’t need it. It was fairly known to both believers and non-believers that vampires have to live on blood. Well that may be the only truth in the stereotype given to the world about the beings called Vampires. Long ago a very cautious vampire noticing the changes in the way of life gave the world a stereotype. You might know it as Brahms Stocker’s ‘Dracula’. This in fact saved a lot of vampires from certain doom. The sun, believed to be fatal to vampires, is nothing but an irritating ball of energy. Garlic was just repulsive. That was understandable being able to smell ten times better than a blood hound would make anyone steer clear of the pungent stench. Crosses made great jewelry and holy water was just that…water. Vampires did not kill to satisfy their bloodlust but their lust for death itself. The only way to rid yourself of a vampire is to rip its heart out or to run a blade through it.

Nya charged with lightening speed and plunged her blade, with a sickening sound as if someone were sticking their hand into half-frozen honey, into her newest prey. She stopped for a moment. The silence of the woods alerted her to the presence of her vampire stalker. She quickly lit fire to the vampire at her feet and grabbed her blade and put it in its sheath. She softly probed her stalker’s mind. Walls quickly rose up to meet her invasion. Nya let go, she could easily break down the barriers and she could tell that her stalker understood that.

Nya, with a simple thought, brought herself behind her stalker. Normally she would have let her stalker be but tonight wasn’t a normal night. Usually this stalker would not come near her while she was on a mission. The scent of the boy before her was intoxicating. She took in his appearance from the back and found that she could not look away. He was her watcher by the moon’s light or so she named him. He was a boy and he couldn’t have been more than seventeen or eighteen when he was changed. His scent could nor be described or the taste imagined. Before she knew what she was doing she had lowered her lips to his soft and pale neck. He stiffened in her arms as if steeling his nerves for the bite. Nya’s tongue flicked out and she licked at the pulsing of her stalker’s smooth pale skin. She then ran her elongated fangs across the same path, her pink appendage had taken, leaving a thin line of blood. She greedily lapped at the crimson liquid. And to both her and the boy’s surprise she was standing in front of him stealing a short but passionate kiss. Nya was sure to make the boy taste his own blood.

And just as the boy began to respond Nya’s joy was trampled on as a new, more sinister presence made itself known. She could feel a twinge of fear from the boy at the sudden appearance. Somehow that brought anger to Nya. Not only had this person intruded on an intimate moment but they had caused the boy to fear.

‘And Nero sat upon the hill and watched as the metropolis burned.’ Before Nya knew it he was gone and the presence that had been coming closer, dropped right before her. She did not have time to wonder where the words in her mind had come from. It was a vampire hunter. She could tell by the badge on her left shoulder. She belonged to one of the more prominent vampire hunting groups ;Garnet. The vampire hunter’s hand shot out from beneath the cloak she was wearing. She had a silver dagger aiming at Nya’s heart.

Nya had just enough time to block the attack with her own blade. The hunter growled at her and the moon’s light finally illuminated the figure’s face. Nya almost gasped, but it wasn’t much of a surprise seeing as she was on good terms with the Garnet group. The girl’s eyes were glazed over and she didn’t seem that worried about the many injuries she was obtaining. Nor did she flinch when Nya’s blade came dangerously close to her neck.

Instead of killing her attacker, Nya looked directly into the girl’s mind and broke whatever control the other vampire had over her. It could only be a vampire because any other supernatural being would know better than to do something like that. Her fight with the hunter had been too easy. She sighed as she caught the girl before she fell. Nya bit into her middle finger and let one drop of her blood fall into the mouth of the unconscious hunter. That would tell any and all vampires that she was under Nya’s protection and anyone who didn’t want to anger Nya would stay away. Nya searched the girl’s mind for a home to return to and quickly decided against it. The vampire who had been in control of the girl had been sure to orphan her.

Nya sighed, she would have to return the vampire hunter back to her group. But she was tired and irritable so she wouldn’t be at her best. She couldn’t return her today. Another day would be better.

Nya entered her small apartment with her fellow huntress in her arms. She just needed some time to rest and a few bandages and she’d be fine. Nya pulled the girl‘s name out of her mind. ‘Annabel.’ It was an odd name for a vampire hunter. Nya put the girl in her room and then made her way back into the living room. Another odd trait about Nya was that she could live on human food. Human things that she had eaten all her life before and after she found out that she was a vampire. She quickly, but with a vampire’s grace, walked to the kitchen.

She grabbed a miso ramen cup and then filled it with water. She put it in her small black microwave and pushed the three minute button. One thing Nya didn’t like about food was that you had to wait for it to be ready and warm. ‘But blood is always ready and waiting.’ She quickly pushed the thought away. She would try not to think of the unconscious girl in her room as food.
‘You’re not like other vampires, you can push away the bloodlust,’ she thought to herself.
