• tab Have you ever wondered how the platypus came to be? Well, it was a result of a big fight between two goddesses, Juno and Venus. Now, these two fought about almost everything, and it was shocking to all the other gods and goddesses that they were still good friends.
tab Ever since the animals were created, Juno and Venus fought over which animal was the best. Juno favored the beaver, while Venus favored the duck, and anything like the duck. “The beaver is better and you know it,” Juno said, “It’s such a hard worker, and it can chop down trees with its teeth.” Venus laughed, “The beaver is an ugly rodent. The duck on the other hand is a beautiful thing. And quite frankly, I don’t see how the beaver chopping down trees helps anyone.” Juno glared at Venus. “Beavers help control water flow,” she retorted. “When was the last time a duck did anything to help anyone?” Their voices were starting to rise.
tab Meanwhile, a few of the gods were playing a game of Tali. “I haven’t heard any fighting today,” Mercury said. He didn’t need to mention names. “I actually like their fighting,” said Mars. “Of course you do, oh god of war,” Neptune said. His comment gained a few chuckles. Then they heard it. The sound of Juno and Venus fighting about who knows what. Everyone sighed. “You really have to do something about their fighting, Jupiter,” Neptune said, while the others murmured in agreement. “Give it a couple minutes, they always stop,” Jupiter said, and the four gods continued with their game.
tab “Well I’m much prettier than you,” Venus said with a smug look on her face. Juno glared. “Only and idiot would bring something like that into an argument,” she retorted. Venus glared back. “Fine then, let’s ask everyone which animal is best.” So the two set off in search of people to ask, bickering all the while.
tab The first person Venus and Juno found was Apollo. He was playing a flute, unaware of the approaching goddesses. “Let me talk to him, I’m more civilized and you might scare him away,” Juno said to Venus with a smug look on her face. Venus opened her mouth to protest but thought better of it.
tab “Apollo,” Juno said. No answer. “Apollo,” she said a bit louder. Still no answer from Apollo. This time Venus stepped in. “Hey, Apollo! Put down the flute!” she yelled. Apollo stopped playing and looked and them. “Is there something important you two need?” He stressed the word ‘important’ because he knew the two goddesses had come to him because of a fight. “Please explain to Juno that a duck is much better than a beaver,” Venus said. That triggered a whole new fight.
tab “Stop! I am trying to write a song and all you two are doing is distracting me. So can you please take your childish fights elsewhere?” Apollo said. Juno and Venus humphed and walked off.
tab The next people they found were the four gods who were still playing Tali. “Oh no, here they come,” said Mercury. “Everyone just try and ignore them, “ said Jupiter. So they kept playing and pretended not to hear the arguing goddesses. It wasn’t long before all four gods had had enough.
tab “Alright you two, that’s enough!” Jupiter said, “I honestly don’t see why you two are fighting over which animal is better. Every other god and goddess has their favorite animal but they don’t fight over it.” “That’s because they know that the duck is better,” Venus mumbled, but Juno was still able to hear it. “No, they know the beaver is better,” she retorted. Then once again, they started fighting. “Stop!” Jupiter said, “This is how we will solve it.” He went outside and found a duck and a beaver, then brought them inside. Then magically, he fused them. The new animal had the bill of a duck and the tail of a beaver, and Jupiter named it the platypus.
tab So now Venus and Juno had one less thing they fought about and for once, something they agreed on. They both agreed that the platypus was the best animal. Of course some of the gods and goddesses disagreed, but they kept that to themselves. They didn’t want to start another fight.
