• The words could not be forced through my throat. I wanted to say I love you, but sitting here with dawn nowhere in sight nor coming close I just couldn’t, tears never stopped for a second. I didn’t even try to look at his body; I just looked at the sky. Even though the night was cold I felt warm, as though he were holding me for his final goodbye. The wind blew harder every second and the tears continued, as if they never would stop. Without looking at his body I lied down beside him and snuggled into his side. I grabbed hold of the side of his shirt and cried into it. I became more and more tired, I slowly drifted to sleep, but what I wasn’t ready for was what awaited me when I awoke.
I woke with his body unmoved, just one side drenched with my tears. I hated looking at his no longer moving body. I moved closer to him and my leg connected with his. And within that second his phone rang, he always had it set to vibrate. I reached into his pocket and pulled out the silver phone; a note fell out too. The name on the front read “My Life” that’s the name he put for my number. I cried. Did he cheat? I searched my pockets and found no trace of my phone. So I went on instincts and answered.
“Hello?” My voice shaky, cracked and broken. There was a quick silence and then an unfamiliar voice answered.
“You're next!” the voice said quickly and hung up. I broke down and noticed the white piece of paper that fell on the ground as I grabbed his phone.
On the front it read “My Life”
I opened it up understanding that the note was addressed to me.
I love you, I always have. And well if you’re reading this than that voice got to me. You may not know what that means but whatever you do, don’t answer my phone after I’m gone, especially if it has you name on it. I love you, always and forever.
She fell asleep in the same place as the night before, only this time after she drifted off to sleep she never awoke.
