• Psalm 135: 16-17
    “They have mouths, but they do not speak;
    Eyes they have, but they do not see;
    They have ears, but they do not hear;
    Nor is there any breath in their mouths...”

    I sat up and yawned. I looked around and found Louis and Francis asleep nearby. Bill was wide awake, messing with a pistol. I nodded at him and he nodded back. That’s when screams ripped our ear drums. Louis jolted up at the screams. “Holy crap, what was that?” he yelped. The screams alerted us again. Bill opened it and ran out, finding a hoard of zombies surrounding the door, along with a really irritated Witch. The Witch was screaming and running at us. He slammed the door and shot through the window, killing everything. I tossed Bill a pipe bomb and he looked back outside. He put it in his utility belt (which we all had).

    I walked over to Francis and crouched down beside him, shaking his shoulder. “Francis? Get up.”

    He opened his eyes and yawned, stretching his arms. He stood up and walked over to the door, peaking outside. “Damn, Bill.”

    Bill shrugged and we began moving again.

    An hour later . . .

    “I don’t like the looks of this, get behind me.” Francis ordered me. I shook my head and stood next to him.

    “We’re in this together.” I replied. He rolled his eyes and we began maneuvering through the subway. I figured he was a little mad at me for not listening to him, but that soon ended. A Hunter pounced nearby and it growled fiercely. It pounced again and almost jumped on me, but Francis grabbed me and pulled me toward him, wrapping one arm around me. He brought up his pistol and unloaded a clip into it, causing it’s death. I looked up at Francis and he smiled.

    “So your interested.” he laughed. I rolled my eyes and moved away from him. “Haha, all right!”

    “Grow up.” Bill ordered, walking ahead of us. We followed behind, and Louis bringing up the rear. It wasn’t that hard maneuvering through the subway station. It felt odd as we then ran through the sewers, like something was watching us. A incoming hoard began to overwhelm us, and I somehow was moved away from the group and was on my own with a Tank.

    I unleashed hell into it, but it didn’t work. It had me cornered and it was smashing me into the ground. I screamed for help and then the Tank died and Louis was helping me up on my feet. I was in excruciating pain. I forgot that we didn’t have any med packs and limped behind them, bleeding out. I fell again and Francis picked me up, carrying me in his arms. I was afraid if I was to fall again, I wouldn’t be able to get back up. “Rest will do you good.” Francis said, giving me a pain pill. “Louis isn’t doing very good either. We’ll find you a place to sleep.”

    “How far . . .are we away . . .from the Safe House?” I asked, having to take deep breaths.

    “About a minute away. We have to get up the ladder.” he said, setting me on my wobbly feet. He took my wrists and wrapped them around his neck, then took my legs and wrapped them around his waist. He instructed me to hold on and he climbed up the ladder. We emerged out of there and I started feeling very dizzy. I put my head on his shoulder and he whispered, “Hold on, Zoey. We’re almost there.”

    A few minutes later and we arrived into the Safe House. Francis lied me on a table and grabbed a med kit from the table as Louis secured the door. Bill healed Louis up and reloaded his gun. I clutched my side, blood still oozing slowly out. Francis helped me out of my jacket and I felt dizzy once again. He started to lift my shirt and examined the wound. He called Bill’s name and he rushed over, looking at my wound. “Is it...bad?” I asked, but I couldn’t even hear my own voice. Their mouths moved, but I couldn’t hear anything. But I could feel the pain as they tried to heal me. I screamed. Hands grabbed my face and he mouthed something, but I couldn’t hear him. I felt the pain disappear and my eyes closed, making everything dark. Then, I heared something, someone. It was Francis. And he yelled for me to come back.

    “Her heart is beating, so that’s good. Let’s see if she’ll wake.”

    “Zoey? Zoey?”

    They called my name, over and over. Didn’t they see that I wanted to sleep? I stirred in his arms, not yet realizing who it was. I opened my eyes and saw Francis, holding me close to him. He smiled down at me. “How are you feeling?” he asked. I nodded, not yet wanting to speak.

    I then asked, “Can I go back to sleep now? I was having a good dream...”

    “Good. You don’t want to hear the jokes that Francis is making.” Louis replied, obviously been laughing to hard because there were tears in his eyes and he choked back a smile. I laughed nervously and put my head against Francis, going asleep again.

    The wind blew my hair to the side. The raindrops pelted at me, threatening. I ignored it. Where was he? I leaned over the bridge’s side. It was a small bridge, sort of like the one from Mulan. The short wooden one. I looked down at the river, seeing my reflection. I felt like crying. Why would he even show up anyway?

    “Zoey?”

    His soft voice made my ears turn an automatic red. I turned, seeing his face, he was soaked by rain. He wrapped his arms around me, kissing me softly. “I told you that you would live.”

    I smiled.

    I felt a tongue wrap between us and he was ripped out of my arms. I screamed, “Francis!” holding my hand out to him. A growl was behind me and a Tank smashed me in the face, making me plummet to the ground.

    Hands grabbed my face, yelling my name. I opened my eyes and saw Francis again, worried. I jolted up and kissed him, wrapping my arms around his neck. “You’re okay!”

    He blinked twice, not knowing what happened, or what he did to get me to kiss him.
