• Mitsukai Kinshou(1) stared across at the cell's wall. The stone bricks were a perfect tile pattern and she blinked at them slowly. She was tired, but she couldn't sleep and hungry but she couldn't eat. The food was terrible and she wanted nothing more to do with it. She attempted to raise herself from the mattress they let her sleep on. Her friend was right. There was no afterlife. What there was for her, was something worse. To live forever was their goal with her. To have her watch over the land until the end of the world was their goal. To make her miserable was their goal for she was never meant to have human emotions. She was not meant to be human. She had lived a thousand lives. Not exactly ever given the chance to 'die'. She had always been reincarnated and reborn into another body almost identical to the others. She pouted. This was what people thought was the 'afterlife'? She glared at the wall now. It was just some other demention beside theirs. Another world that had it in for her when she was supposed to be a goddess, mindless or not. Another useless world that was out to get her and everyone else one day.

Suddenly, the door of the cell opened and a strange man walked in with a new plate of food for her. She recognised him. Recognised his waist length auburn hair and petit features in his femenine face. Recognised the elegant shape and movement of his body underneath the odd clothing he wore. She gasped. She had worked for him back in her own world. Or a man that looked like him, anyway. She sat up and looked at him. Slowly and delicately, he turned to look at her. Noticing the look on her face, he looked away and nodded.

"Yes, it's me. Madara(2). I'm sorry I didn't tell you before, but I had my reasons..." he said quietly as he went to leave.

She shook her head. "No, I want to talk to you." she said. "I want to know what's going on."

He looked somewhere to his upper left, appearing a little dazed. "I don't see where it could hurt..." he said absent mindedly. Silently, he walked over to her bed and sat down, smoothing some of the wrinkles in his clothes. She stared at her hands as they were folded neatly in her lap.

"So, where does this all start...?" she asked.

He took in a deep breath, as calm and quiet as ever. "I don't remember the year or even the time. All I know now is it was a very long time ago...at least fifty thousand years, if not more." he said. "We have not changed much. Our culture and way of life is still very much the same but down on earth, the place we thrive off of, the place that provides our life supports, our food, our everything, was in grave danger and changes so often, we had to do something about it. So... we came up with a guardian. We needed someone beautiful and helpful. Someone who understands us and the people down there. Someone who would sound the alarms and punish those who were 'bad' as you might say." he told her. There was a silence in which she tried to soak up this newfound information and he sighed heavily. "You," he said, "were my fiance. All those years ago, when we were both young, we walked the earth...and in time they realized you were perfect. The perfect angel. The perfect heart and the perfect strength. You were everything they needed and reluctantly after a fight...I let them take you. Not that I had wanted to. You didn't need that."

She bit her lip. "You loved me and they took me...? You let them take me...?" she said, slowly turning to look at him. He looked as if he were about to cry, trying his best to hold back the tears.

Slowly, he nodded. "Yeah, I struggled and I remember the look on your face when they almost killed you and I knew...I knew I had lost. So...I let them take you. I let them take you or they would have killed one of us and you would have commit suicide had I been murdered. So I did what was best and knew that they would take care of you, but I didn't know they would make it like this later on. I didn't even think they'd make you miserable." he said quietly. He took in a ragged breath and went on. "They'd wipe your memory and everytime you died, they'd create a body just like the one before. Then they'd send you down to earth and secretly murder you when you got too old to protect anyone, usually around the age of twenty-eight...They never let you live very long and I'm sorry for that. I think you had a total of thirty-seven children too, none of which were my own." he smiled. "We would have made a beautiful child..." he told her absent-mindedly.

She appeared deep in thought for a moment then pulled her knees up to her chest. "So...These wings, the ones that are falling apart...I wasn't born with them...?"

He nodded. "Yeah, I'm sorry for this. I really am. I never meant for you to hurt like this, you've never lived beyond the age of twenty-nine and I only pray that maybe someday you will forgive me. I never meant for this to happen."

She stood up and calmly walked across the room. Standing by the window covered by a curtain, she took in a deep breath. Pulling it open, she could see the various places in the world. The places she had been, visited, lived in. Made families in. She tilted her head a little. Pouting, she whipped the curtains closed and spun around to look at her fiance.

"And how come you never stopped them? Honey, I have no idea what's going on, I was just taken from the orphanage one day when making sure the children were coming back inside. You were standing right there, Madara! You could have stopped them!"

He shook his head. "I'm sorry, but...I couldn't. Just like you, I've grown weaker too." he replied. "They have weapons like you don't believe and...we are no longer immortal...not anymore..." he said. "I would have died before I could have done anything and how would that have helped you?!"

She sighed a little, and sat in silence for a few moments. It wasn't an akward silence, just a calm one where they both thought. She opened her mouth to speak.

"Do you still love me?" she asked bluntly as she stared at the wall across from them. He sighed a little also.

"I know it's wrong because you're always so much younger than me now, but...I can't say I don't." he told her.

"Then how come you never told me?"

    "Told you what...? About this...?"

    She nodded. "Yeah."

"Because you would never have believed me. There was proof, though."

    "What kind of proof...?"

To be continued...(depending on how many comments I get and how many people want it continued)

    (1) Mitsukai Kinshou, literally meaning "insignificant angel"

    (2) Madara means "speckles" or "spots" in japanese, he was named after the small vertical pink dashes he has under each eye, almost like three little freckles in a way.
