• Crap. I’m ganna die, was the thought that kept going through my head when I was her. She grinned evilly as if saying, yes you will and it will be very slow and painful. David tried negotiating.
“Let her go and you can do whatever you want with me.” He pleaded.
“You mean nothing to me boy! You were only bait, just as her family was.” Bast said. He got angry.
“What did she ever do to you?!” David shouted at her. Bast looked at me.
“You never told him the story? Oh well, I guess I will.
In her first year of training Marina had also started learning the ways of the Night. In her research on the subject she learned of the deeds I had performed to attain my position and decided to do something about it. She knew that because her control on her power wasn’t good enough, she was going to lay a curse on me. Marina went to my most prized shrine in Lukiamoi and cursed me. The curse was that all of my life I would feel the pain of all the ones I have killed and of the ones I will kill in the future. From then on I have been trying to kill her to get revenge. Somehow she has been evading all of my attacks but there is nowhere to run now and I shall have my revenge.” Bast told him.
“Is that true?” David asked me.
    “Yes.” I replied quietly.
“Good. That means that we can kick her butt.” He said. A giggle escaped my lips. So not the response I had been expecting. And it wasn’t the one Bast had been expecting either.
“You wanna go, boy? Bring it on!” Bast yelled and he did. With a wave of his hand water flooded into her mouth and nose, suffocating her. I took my chance and called air plaster her arms and legs together and seal her mouth so she couldn’t talk. The only thing we couldn’t cover was her mind.
All taken care of. David’s mental voice said.
I didn’t know you were Gifted in the mind, David. I said surprised.
I didn’t tell you for a reason. He replied. I let it go and turned my mind to the situation at hand.
“Should we call Nakasha?” I asked David. She appeared just as I asked.
“If I’m already here why should you call me?” Nakasha asked. I’m always surprised at how different Bast and Nakasha look from each other. Bast had gold eyes, gold hair, and tan skin and Nakasha had midnight black hair, pale skin, and violet eyes. I’ve always thought that sisters should always look relatively alike. Bast and Nakasha proved that theory wrong.
“Uh, could you take her and deal with her as you will?” I asked her.
“I had been planning on it Marina. I thank you two for capturing her. And I do plan to do something about the king. Be in the throne room, tomorrow at noon.”Nakasha said. She grabbed her sister and with a flash disappeared.
“Now we’re off to get your family out of here.” David said and this time he was the one pulling me. He pulled me through endless halls, down a flight of stairs, through dark tunnels and we arrived at the dungeons. The minute we entered I could tell although I could see anything for a minute. I could smell it. The dungeon smelt like permanently wet bricks and slime from the sewer. Not very pleasant in my opinion. I called fire to light our way and immediately the dungeon lit up. My parents were in the cell closest to us and my sister was nowhere in sight. I hurried over to my parents.
“Marina! What are you doing here?” they cried out in unison.
“I’m here to save you. But where’s Florina?”I asked them. Immediately my mom started crying so my dad had to tell me.
“A couple of minutes ago some big guards came in and said that she was going to be a sacrifice.” He explained.
“Did they say where?” I asked.
“Uh I think they said something about lifting the curse on Bast.” My father answered. I rushed out, leaving David to care for my parents. I had read something about curses once. If you wished a curse to be lifted someone had to kill the person who laid the curse or someone in their family. Bast is going to kill my sister to get back at me and lift the curse. Two birds with one stone. The passage also said they had to be killed at the cursed sight which means they’re at Bast’s most sacred shrine, not far from here.
“Threads of my sister hide me from enemy’s sight.” I whispered, invoking the glamour that was threaded into my camo stuff. I didn’t want to be spotted at all. I ran through the hallways, retracing my steps until I reached the kitchen. Then I ran as hard as I could for the doors to the outside and sprinted to the shrine, hoping I would get there in time. When I arrived I saw a sacrificial fire burning but I heard no screams which was a good sign.
I ran as fast as I could over to the shrine. Maybe I can at least stall the burning while I find my sister… I called a breeze to disturb the fire. I peeked into the shrine. There were two big and buff men guarding the entrance. Inside was a mage preparing the fire and another warding off my sister’s magic. Her eyes wandered and locked with mine. I gave a nod so she would be able to break free of the mage when I attacked. I slipped past the guards easily and crept past the mage preparing the fire. As soon as I was right behind the mage warding my sister, I already had one of my daggers out and ready and I slit his throat before he could cry out. I let the body down slowly. This was going to be a lot easier than I thought. Of course I was wrong. Immediately the second mage was alerted to my presence and I cried out,
“Now!” and Florina and I attacked together. I called a ferocious wind to put out the fire and my sister used the mages robes to completely mummify him. Then I conjured a sharp rock and dropped it, piercing the mage’s heart. Unfortunately the fight wasn’t over. The body guards seemed to have a gift in archery and weaponry. One of the guards shot an arrow at Florina’s head and it missed her by centimeters. I got a dagger in my leg, which really pissed me off. I threw sharp rocks at them but they just bounced off. Looks like I’m gonna have to kill them using my bare hands. I limped over there, using my air gift to deflect all of their arrows and daggers. When I was close enough I unsheathed my sword I beheaded them and all I’m gonna say about that was it wasn’t pretty. The shrine started shake. My clothes yanked me back and the shrine collapsed and everything went black.
