• Chapter 1
“Order! Order in the court!” Minerva screamed out from her seat in the judge’s box. Yes that’s right, the great goddess of wisdom Minerva is in the judge’s box banging her spear like a gavel. Why? For you to know that we have to go back to the beginning, not the beginning of the universe, though I could tell you that, but the beginning of the story. It all started about three days ago…
“Clio!” my sister called as she came gliding towards me. I turned to view her before going back to reading about the Trojan Wars. “Clio!” she called again. I turned back to her and shut my book.
“What Erato?” I asked as she finally reached me. She grinned mischievously.
“I found something,” I raised an eyebrow, she had pulled me from my book for this? “That’s great, while history is full of fascinating discoveries, I don’t think yours will really interest me,” Erato frowned before pulling something from her bag.
“But it is so cool!” I gasped at what she held in her hand.
“Where did you get that?” I asked as she started to put it on her head. I felt my eyes go wide as her body disappeared.
“I found it laying around Hades when I went to see Persephone. She wouldn’t see me by the way, still sore over the whole being kidnapped into marriage thing,” my sister’s disembodied voice replied.
“Well we need to go to Olympus or the Hades or somewhere not here and return it now!” I snapped as my sister’s body came back into view. She frowned and hugged the Helm of Darkness closer. That’s right my sister stole Pluto, king of the underworld and all whole dwell there, Helm of Darkness. Only my sister could be so stupid as to take a god’s gift.
“But I want to use it!” I shook my head as I tried to take it from her. I was the muse of history, I knew what happened to those who took from the gods, and it would not end well for my sister if this were discovered.
“For what?” I demanded as she yanked it out of my reach.
“To follow around Venus! She’s been getting annoyed with me lately and this way I can follow her around without her knowing!” my sister whined. I rolled my eyes. My sister was the muse of love poetry and Venus being the goddess of love was her idol. I swear my sister was obsessed! She had painting of Venus everywhere in her room off the main mansion of Olympus. Statues dotted her courtyard, I don’t think anyone idolized Venus like my sister, well maybe Helen of Troy, but that’s a different story.
“First of all Venus does not need an invisible person following her around! That’s weird and creepy; second of all you can’t do it in a god’s personal item! Do you know how many people have been punished for doing such a thing in history?” Erato rolled her eyes. “No, but I bet you do. But I really don’t care, I’m keeping it!” I made a move to grab it when a loud crash made me freeze.
“WHO TOOK MY HELM OF DARKNESS?” screamed a voice belonging to the worst god to get mad. Not good. My sister looked pale as she looked down in her hands and then back towards the large mansion where we could see Pluto standing in the doorway. He was clothed all in black and the spirits swirled all around him. He looked peeved as the other gods began to come towards the door to meet their angered family member.
“Take that with you,” I said as I began to head towards the main mansion. I felt my sister follow me, but when I turned around I couldn’t see her. Stupid muse wearing the helm what is she thinking? “I meant, you know what never mind, just stay quiet.” I said to Erato. “Who are you talking to?” I spun at the sound of Calliope’s voice. She looked back at me expectantly.
“Myself,” I said quickly. Calliope frowned.
“Okay then. I wonder what’s going on,” I looked towards the door again where Mercury was now flying out.
“Everyone is to report to the big house immediately. Apparently Pluto is putting every god and goddess who had been in the Underworld recently on trial!” Calliope gasped while I frowned trying to remember if this had ever happened before. Mercury nodded before flying off to deliver the message elsewhere. This was going to be interesting.
