• It was several months later, Kris and Graanglou had gotten to know each other a little better. Kris was getting the hang of being a Child of the darkness. His powers to take the very light from the air and make it inky black was become more and more astounding each day. He was becoming what he was destined to be Graanglou had thought on many occasions.

"Hey Lou, do you ever get bored just sitting in my head?" Kris asked as he was stretched out on his bed with his hands behind his head. "Why do you shorten up my name like that? I mean really...it is annoying, but no i do not. Your mind is fascinating to me, i am still learning about the extent of what you can do." Graanglou answered back haughtily. "Jeez! Fine i won't call you Lou any more, i was just trying to make your name easier for the twenty-first century ya know. Not everyone has been alive for two-thousand years. In fact no one has that i can recollect." Kris and Graanglou had developed a bond much like brothers. They got into fights over things, they yelled at each other, everything that brothers normally do. But his dad had no clue, he always wondered why he heard yelling coming from Kris' room, and when he stepped in why there was no one there. He thought his son had gone insane. And so did everyone else.

At school Kris had become a regular loner, not emo or goth kind of loner. Just didn't like being around people that much, and not to mention that most everybody didn't want to be around him now. The girls though, they were fauning over him. It was just cause he didn't say much when they did. They thought he was "mysterious". Kris wasn't terrible looking, but by no means the most handsome guy in school. He would rank himself about 15th in the school he thought in his head one day. Besides he didn't like any of the girls at the school, they were pretty much all stuck up little prisses. Not the type of girl Kris was interested in. But Kris was thinking over in his head who he really did like. "What about that pretty girl who lives just down from you?" Graanglou chimed in. "Graanglou! Why are you listning to my thought again!?" Kris thought enraged. "It's kinda hard when they are screaming in my had too. You and your hormones..." Graanglou trailed off. But he was right, the girl who lived down from him was very attractive, she wasn't a priss either. Megan was her name, Kris wasn't sure though. After thinking about it he came back to thinking he was right about her name again. Maybe he would stop by on the way home and say hi...

On his way home he noticed that Megan was walking only a little ways in front of him. He sped up so that he could walk next to her. As he tried to catch up he caught the smell of vanilla fragrating off of her clothing. Kris had never been close enough to smell her before. "Hey!" Kris yelled as he got closer to Megan. She stopped and turned to look who was calling behind her. "Oh, um...Hi." Megan said. "Hey, it's Megan right?" Kris asked. "Uh, yea. I'm sorry i have no clue who you are though..." Megan said embarrassed. "I'm Kris. I live just up the street from you. Maybe you have seen me out side every once in awhile." Kris chuckled. "Yea now that you mention it i have." Megan said. they both laughed uncomfortably. Then it got silent, Kris hated awkward silences it made him feel like he was going to blurt out something stupid, that he would regret later on. "Um...do-do you need any help with your homework?" Kris' voice cracked as he said this. His face flushed with embarrassment. "C-c-cause if you do i would be glad to come over and help y-you with it...ya know only if you want me to." Kris said nervously. "Um...sure, yea i could use some help." Megan said and then smiled at Kris widely. "Cool!..uh i mean that's cool." Kris said trying to be nonchalant, it wasn't working very well because Megan giggled.

After spending a few hours helping Megan with her homework Kris decided it was time to go home, so with a concealed sad goodbye Kris left. Once he was home he bolted straight for his room and locked the door so his dad couldn't barge in. "Wow...i mean really wow. She was amazing, how come i never noticed it before?" Kris thought. "Because you are were a boy who just didn't pay attention, and now you do. That's the big difference you dote." Graanglou said jokingly. "Ha, like you were never at any point as clueless about girls as i am." Kris retorted. "You're right, i wasn't" Graanglou chuckled. "yea all who believe that raise there hand." Kris said rolling his eyes.

The next few weeks went oddly well Kris had thought one day in passing. He had been going to Megan's house more often, even to not help her with her homework. One day she even slipped Kris a kiss on the cheek and a thank you before he was gone. He almost floated home with elation. After that day he had decided that he was going to try and ask Megan out. Graanglou laughed inside his head every time he thought about it. "Okay today is the day, i am going to ask her out. No backing out this time at the last second." Kris said aloud to himself in the mirror before he got ready for school. "Good luck with that one Kris, i have known humans to have fickle stomachs when faced with adversity most of the time." Graanglou taunted. "Shut up! I am scared enough with out you making it worse." Kris shot back at him angrily. Friday, the day of truth. He was going to walk over, ask her out, and go home good or bad. Easy. Right? Kris had thought to himself. "oh how wrong i am.." Kris thought as he walked up the path to her house. Sweat was galloping off his brow and into his eyes with nervousness. He tried feebly to keep it in check but it didn't work so well. He rang the bell once and almost immediately Megan answered it. "dang it, i had hoped i would have some time to think about what to say!" Kris thought. "Hey!" Megan said once she saw it was Kris. "H-h-h-hey M-M-Megan!" Kris sputtered. Kris wiped the sweat off again as he asked. Nervous twitches set in and he started flexing his hands. Megan was beginning to wonder what was up so she asked the question fast "What ya need Kris?", "Um..uh..er..." Kris struggled to find the words. Finally he took a deep breath and said it all before he stammered again. "I was wondering...if you weren't too busy this weekend...if you would kinda maybe..wanna go to a movie or something?" Kris cringed as he finished this sentence braced for any answer she was going to give.

"Yes." was all Kris heard before he poked open one eye and looked at her as if he wasn't sure he heard right. "Yes i would like to go to a movie with you! Is it that hard to believe?" Megan asked. "I mean it wasn't like i hadn't given you a lot of hints that you should ask me!" as Megan finished the sentence she put her hands on her hips for emphasis. Now Kris was confused. His brow creased into a hard line trying to think back through the past few weeks. Then it dawned on him she was right, color flooded his cheeks at realization. "There i knew you were paying attention a little bit" Megan said rolling her eyes. "Come back tomorrow. Seven, we'll go catch a movie and maybe I'll let you walk me home." Megan said smiling at Kris. "Um..uh yea sure that sounds good." Kris finally managed to get out of his mouth . "Good. See ya then!" Said Megan as she started slinking back behind the door. Kris turned and almost sprinted back to his house, doing a jump for joy in the process and shouting "Woo hoo!" as he ran down the street. Saturday was going to be the best!
