• Seriously, what am I going to do? I woke up the next night asking that same question I had been all day.

Look at me, only a couple days in a house full of vampires and I’m already sleeping during the day and up all night.

Before going down stairs for breakfast I ran into the bathroom to fix my hair and add a little make-up. Pheobe and Mary-Anne were sitting around the island with what looked like IV bags full of.. blood stuck to their teeth.

I grabbed a bowl and some lucky charms before sitting down next to them. Pheobe tried smiling at me and when the blood was gone she pulled the bag off her teeth and threw it away, “Sleep well?”

I nodded asking, “What’s with the bags?”

Mary-Anne finished hers, also throwing it away and answered, “My husband controls many business’s and one of them is a blood bank for vampires. Of course we don’t tell people that because then they wouldn’t donate blood.” She laughed lightly and I smiled.

I ate a couple bites of cereal, “Why don’t you just drink from people?”

Pheobe leaned forward, “It’s against our laws. You can only drink from people in emergencies.” She added, “Where humans have police and presidents, we have counsel members and enforcers. My aunt is a counsel member and I have a couple cousins who are enforcers.”

“What are enforcers and counsel members?”

Mary-Anne answered this, “Counsel members make the rules and enforcers make sure they are followed. You’re not the only ones who have rogues ya know.” I smiled and finished my breakfast.

I still don’t know what I’m going to do about Leon. Maybe I should just keep my distance till I figure it out.

“You should probably talk to him about that,” Pheobe said smiling wickedly.

I glared at her, “Stop reading my mind.”

She just shrugged, “I can’t help it when you keep broadcasting your thoughts like that.” I sighed. “Don’t worry. It will all work out if you just talk it over with him.” After a moment of silence Pheobe said, “You don’t have to stay with him. There are very rare occasions where a lifemate is either never found or they choose not to stay. I’ve never really heard of it but it happens.”

“So, you’re saying I don’t have to stay with Leon?” I asked surprised. Both Mary-Anne and Pheobe nodded. I thought about this for a moment.

Did I want to stay with Leon? I’ll admit, a piece of me liked the fact of kissing him whenever I wanted and marriage sounded really scary yet kind of nice in a way. I really liked Leon but I wanted to get to know him more before I even tried to decide any of this.

The two girls smiled at me, probably reading my thoughts. I smirked at them, “Ease droppers.” They laughed as I walked to the stairs and found Leon at the top. I started to walk the opposite way when he said, “Wait. I wanted to talk to you.”

I stopped and he led me to the living room where I plopped down on the sofa. He sat in a chair across from me saying, “I wanted to talk about all the things I told you the other night and whatever my mother and sister just told you.”

Maybe his sister was right and we should talk it over... I asked him, “How do you feel about me?”

He looked at me dumbfounded for a moment, “Well, I like you a lot.”

“What about me do you like?” I crossed my arms over my chest. “Ignore the fact that you think-”

    “I know,” he stated.

    “-that I’m your lifemate.”

Leon moved over to sit next me, serious now. “For starters, I love your dimples when you smile and the way your nose scrunches up when your angry.”

“My nose does not scrunch up!” I shouted and little wrinkles formed on my nose, “Ok, maybe a little..”

He continued, “And I love how smart you are, coming up with the idea to fake buying weapons from Lucien to find him. Or the way you handle problems and even though you’ll be ruling Hell soon you put my families well being over your own.” He put an arm around me smiling now, “And I also love how you look in those short skirts of yours, the way they ride up when you’re walking up the stairs.” He started running his fingers along my jaw when he said that and I looked away. “Is that enough for you ‘cause I can keep going?”

I smiled, “It’s enough, thank you.” I didn’t know he felt all those things about me. “How... how would this work out? I’m a deamon in line for the thrown and you’re a vampire who will never age.”

Suddenly Pheobe came through the swinging kitchen door announcing, “Leon would never tell you because he doesn’t want you to go through the pain.” She gave him that knowing look that meant she was reading his mind and continued, “But he could turn you, ya know, into one of us. A vampire.” Pheobe sat down next to me smiling triumphantly while Leon glared at her.

“He could turn me?” I asked looking at her shocked. Maybe this would work out after all.

Pheobe nodded ignoring her brother, “Yeah we’re allowed to turn one person in our whole lives so we usually save it for our lifemates. You wouldn’t be the first deamon turned. Actually, my uncle is a turned deamon and Bradly was a Druid.”

I thought this over then remembered she had said something about pain. Reading my mind once again she said, “It is very painful when you’re turned because the nanos fight the persons blood. I’m not going to lie. It’s probably going to be the most painful thing you’ve ever encountered but we would give you a drug that’s a combination of paralytic and numbing agent to ease the pain and keep you from hurting yourself.” Pheobe looked like she was thinking about something then smiled, “Of course, we would have to wait till after we found and got rid of Lucien. And that’s if you want to become one of us.”

Whoa. This is a big decision. “Wait, would I loose my deamon powers?”

Pheobe shook her head, “Not that I know of. Bradly kept his powers when I turned him. I mean you could still rule Hell from up here, right?”

“I might be able to-” Leon cut me off.

“Don’t even think about it,” he growled and got up walking away.

Pheobe moved closer putting an arm around my shoulders, “Don’t worry about him. He’ll come to his senses eventually. Leon’s just worried that he’ll loose you and he doesn’t want to put you through the pain.”

“Why would he loose me by turning me?” I asked looking up at her.

She looked at me for the first time since I met her with a serious look on her face, “Not everyone makes it out of the change alright. Very few go crazy or end up.. well, like a zombie. But these things are like a one in ten chance of happening.”

That so did not help. Either I could possibly become some insane zombie, leave Leon, or die by Lucien.

“Don’t worry so much,” she told me giving me a light squeeze. Easy for her to say, she didn’t have deamons after her. “Now let’s work on that little Lucien problem of yours first.”
