• The strong current of the river cooled the air as the water rushed at rocks. It caused a slight mist to fill the air as I walk beside it. I have been traveling for several years looking for adventure with my friend, Isaac.
“What are we lookin’ for again?” Isaac asked while jumping from one rock to the next.
“I am not sure, probably something interesting” I said as I walked.
The valley we were walking though was cool on the account of the mist. Other then that the valley was hot during mid-day, when the sun was it its highest. As I walked I looked for wildlife. A lizard or something. Before I noticed I had zoned out while walking I heard Isaac call for me.
“Hey, Josh! Look what I found” He said as he held a snake up by the tail.
I stood wide eyed at him as I noticed it was a Cottonmouth snake. I slowly started to walk towards him, careful to not make to much noise.
“What’s wrong?” Isaac asked while still holding onto the snake.
“Quiet, and do not move” I said in a calm voice.
I took another step when I saw and heard a rock fall down the side of the valley. It was gonna fall on Isaac. Both of us new that if he ran he would have gotten bitten and if he got hit he could die. Just then I took a chance and dived at him to push him out of the way. We both fell in the river. The snake fell in and disappeared. The strong current swiped us down the valley. Isaac was trying to grip a rock before he hit his head. He fell unconscious. I tried to grab him while trying to avoid rocks. I reached out one more time as I felt the collar of his shirt. I was about the grab him when my arm hit a rock. I felt a sharp pain stab though me. Next thing I knew it I was laying on a cold rocky surface. Everything was dark and I was soaked. I didn’t feel the weight of my camping bag on my back. Then a wave of pain flowed through my arm and I remembered what happened. I grabbed my arm. It was kind of sticky and there was warm fluid around it. Blood. Another thought entered my mind.
“Isaac?!” I called out into the dark, waiting for an answer. No one replied.
Stood up holding the wound while trying to see in the dark. I started to walk but soon my foot felt something. I reached down to grab it. Worried of what it might be. It lifted the object up and started to feel it with my hands. It was a cylinder shape. I soon felt a bump as I pressed it a bright light shined through the cave. I looked around and saw that it was a small room with a little pond in the middle. There was no way out. But Then I looked harder and found that the ceiling had a small crack were the wall and the ceiling met. A small amount of water was rushing though there. I could tell that I came in that way because it was just the right sixe for me. The problem was that the hole was a lot higher then me and even if I could get up there. The flow of water would build up and push me back here. I looked around more and noticed some of my camping stuff had washed up too. I went around gathering it. There was a rope, a can of beans, an extra pack of batteries and a tooth brush. I noticed the flashlight getting dimmer so I shut it off. I sat down and leaned on a wall trying to figure out a way to get out. I realized that if I looked around more I might find something else. So I stood up and turned on the flash light. I looked at the walls there was water rings on them. The highest one was at the top of the wall. I felt worried. I knew that since it hasn’t rained in a while that it will rain soon, and if it rains the room will fill up with water. I panicked as a looked for and exit. I started to pace. The flashlight was getting a dim yellow color and it would go out soon. Just then I stubbed my toe on a rock and kicked the toothbrush. The toothbrush fell into the water. It floated. Just then I had an Idea. I tied the rope to the tooth brush and tied the other end to a rock. I raped the rock around the toothbrush and threw it in the water while holding the middle of the rope. I felt it sink then it started moving to the right. That told me that there was an exit to the water. I pulled the side of the rope and the rock came off. Then I started to feed the rope from the rocks end onto the toothbrushes. The flash light was almost out. I hopped if there was and exit the toothbrush would float to the top of were ever it is. Just then the flash light ran out. I stood there silently holding the rope. There was no more rope to feed to the tooth brush. Then I remembered the extra batteries.
I felt the ground for a big enough rock to hold the rope. I found one and placed it on the end. Then found the flash light and unscrewed it. I emptied the batteries and changed them. The room was filled with light once again. But this was my last batteries so I had to make it worth it. Then my stomach growled and I remembered the can of beans. I smashed the can on a rock till it broke open. I ate them cold. After that I stood up. The only chance I had of surviving was to follow the rope. So I grabbed the flashlight and dived in. Luckily the flashlight was water proof. I continued to follow the rope until it reached a spot with the only place to go was down. I was running out of breath so I quickly swam downward. I soon saw a light coming from above. I swam upward until I surfaced. I inhaled a large breathe and looked around. It was a room but bigger and there was a fire. He got out of the water and walked to the fire. It looked like it was just started.
“Who could have started this?” I asked myself
