• Foreword: I hope everyone has enjoyed the series. This one isn't more about the comedy then it is about the Meerkats escaping at this point. I tried a different approach in writing this one, but I'm not so sure if it turned out better or not. Please leave comments on what you think.
    Enjoy the story.

    Zombie Mark
    Bush and the Meerkats
    Part 4
    Bush on The Hunt

Kenta jumped when he heard the shot. It was the first time he had heard an explosion and it scared him and the third of the clan with him. They took off running down the network of holes in the cabinets that they had made. It was a shortcut they had made to make the journey from the theater’s Janitor room to the theater screens so they could clean faster.

Kenta ran as holes started appearing in the walls right beside them and it made them run a bit faster. One explosion hit the wall right next to Genie, one of the smaller Merekats with Kenta. Genie was thrown across the cabinet and into the other wall. Kenta ran back to check on Genie. She was hurt, but not too bad. She got back up and ran after the rest of the third of the tribe with Kenta.

They made it to the theater number 6 and out the small hole under the screen curtain. Kenta sneaked over to the edge of the screen and looked out into the empty theater, except for one. Christa entered the theater door, guessing that this is where the holes came out at. Kenta ducked back under the curtain and told the other merekats to quickly head to the opening leading to the clothing store next to the theater. Kenta then took off running out from under the screen to the first row of chairs.

He ran from row to row making as much noise as he could. His plan was to distract the human from finding the tribe. His plan had worked. The seat right in front of Kenta exploded into a hundred plastic pieces. Kenta quickly turned and ran to his left, no longer making the noise he had been. He took off across the isle and turned up again. Just as he turned, the seat that he would have been under would have been under exploded as well. Kenta ran as fast as could, his little paws and claws slamming against the floor. The seats around him explodes as the shotgun shells hit them made him start to panic and he made a wrong turn and hit his head on the metal pole that marked the handicap seating. Kenta was dazed for a moment, but that was all it took for Christa to find him. She stood over the Meerkat with the shotgun. Kenta knew that he was in trouble.

Juju climbed into the air duct and made sure the rest of his part of the tribe got in as well. He could hear the explosions somewhere in the theater and prayed to the Meerkat god that the entire tribe would be alright. They ran down the duck trying to make it to one of the neighboring stores in the mall. They skirted around several turns and avoided the plunges straight down into the theaters.

Bo had chosen to go into the projection booth. He looked around with the projectors looking for those little rats. He walked down to the end of the hallway and looked around. He then went back down the hallway and into the office and sat down for a minute. He sat there trying to think where these little rats could have gone. That was when he heard it, a scratching sound coming from somewhere. He listened even more closely and heard it again, this time coming from the air vent. Then Bo smiled. He took his two guns and started shooting up the exposed vent.

A bullet passed right in front of Juju’s nose, as well as other places around the tribe, and this lead to a mass panic amongst the tribe. They started running as fast as they could while the bullets rained into the air vent. One Meerkat by the name of Kima got hit by one bullet. The bullet hit him in the front left leg, cutting it off of Kima. Kima bounced around the duct and came to a bloody stop. Juju didn’t need to go check on him to know that Kima was now dead.

It ticked Juju off that he could not protect his tribe like he should have been able too, but this humans were just too much with their magic fire sticks. He then saw down one of the open vents and saw the big dark human standing there with two of the short magic sticks. Juju then got an idea. Juju forces part of the vent open and squeezed his way through. The dark human had his back to Juju and the rest of the tribe looking at where Kima’s blood dripped out of the vent. Juju then jumped and landed on top of the human and scratched the top of his head as much as he could.

Blood came out from under Juju’s claws and he ran down the dark humans back and into the back of his shirt. The other tribe members looked on through the vent in horror as they saw Juju sacrifice himself for there sakes. Huta, Grile’s sister, then got the tribe moving again. She was the last to leave the vent, fearing that may be the last they would ever see Juju again.

Kenta looked up in horror at the long magic stick and knew that he was done for. Christa also knew that she would kill this pest now. She was a great animal person and hated doing this, but a job was a job, and it was time for her to do hers now. She aimed the gun and put her finger on the trigger when a sharp pain hit her leg. She looked down to see another one biting her on the ankle. It was Genie coming back to help her helper. Kenta was grateful and took off running with Genie as Christa looked down at the blood on her ankle and checked the bite. They made it to the front row before the seats stared exploding again. They took off across the open floor as fast as they could when a shotgun blast hit right behind them. Concrete pieces flew into the air around them as the heard the pump sound again, marking that there would be another explosion soon. They made it under the curtain as the curtain jerked and small metal balls rained around Kanta. He made it to the hole and turned to let Genie in fist, only to see her slidding into the wall leaving a blood trail on the ground behind her. One of the metal balls had hit her in the back, killing her. Kenta was getting mad, but there was nothing he could do for now and ducked into the hole for safety.

John looked around in the basement, but couldn’t find them anywhere. He heard all kinds of shooting above him and hoped that the floor was not made of wood where the shotgun blast were.

Grile lead her part of the tribe across the basement on top of the pipes. They had a small hole where they could escape into the wilds of the sewers under the mall. They were trying to be as quite as they could be, but even then they still made too much noise for her taste. She made a small turn as saw a large white human just under one of the pipes that they were using. Their was not any moving to any other pipes, so they had to be very careful.

They slowed down to make sure that they were careful not to make any mistakes while this close to the bald human. Grile made it to the other side and looked back at her part of the tribe. Most were making it without a problem, but there was one that was having trouble. Fetra, a young Meerkat just over six months old, was scared and stopped right above the bald human. Grile went back out over the pipes to help the young Meerkat across. Once she got out to Fetra and asked it why it couldn’t move, Grile learned why. Fretra had to urinate and could not hold it any longer. The young Meerkat’s bladder let loose and a small stream of urine fell onto John’s head.

When John felt the liquid hit his head, he jumped out of the way and looked up, seeing the two Meerkats clinging to the pipe. He took his M16 rifle and fired it at the pipes. The bullets penetrated the pipes and busted the pipes in half. The pipe fell a bit and the two Meerkats just barely managed to hold on to the pipe. Freta was on the side they needed to escape while Grile was on the wrong side of the pipe.

John, beneath the pipe, was now getting pummeled by the high pressure of water coming out of the buster pipe. He slipped and fell, the rifle falling out of his hand and sliding under a large crate. Grile took a chance and jumped to the other side of the brake on the pipe, and just barely managed to grab a hold of it. The tribe saw her jump and one of the older male’s came out on the pipe and helped pull Grile up onto the pipe. They then ran back across the pipe and to a small rat hole and ran deeper into the sewer under the basement.

Juju ran circle’s around Bo’s stomach, leaving bloody claw marks as he went. He ran out the bottom of Bo’s shirt and down his leg onto the floor. Juju then quickly ran out the office door and into the projection booth. Bo, now in pain and glade that the stupid rat was gone. He walked to the door and saw the rat run between the projectors. He then took aim with one of the pistols.

Juju saw where once of the Projector vents had been removed because the fan was under repair, so he jumped up onto the projector as he heard the shot from Bo’s gun. He had just jumped off the projector when the bullet struck the metal of the projector and penetrated it and struck the projector bulb. The hot bullet with the gasses inside the bulb caused a huge explosion, sending Juju up and into the air vent. Bo covered his face, but luckily, the projector held most of the explosion with it.

Juju ran down the air vent and joined the Huta and the other members of his part of the tribe at the Gap store, next one over. They also met Kinta and his part of the tribe there as well and went into Gap’s basement to find Grile and the rest of the tribe.

Christa limped out of the theater with a bloody Bo and a soaked John. Bush came running up to them with excitement. “Did you get them?” he asked.
“Only two.” Christa replied. “The others got away.”
“Then you only get two beers.” Bush replied. “I give them to you later. Come on, Jeo-Chan! Let’s open up.”

Bush and Jeo-Chan walk into the theater and look around at the destruction. The walls were covered in bullet holes, the basement was completely flooded, and the projection booth was on fire.
