• Night Blood
    Chapter 1

Pure white roses, covers the ground in a pure white glow. From a distance there are two figures, one a male and the other a female. They start to embrace each other, until she takes out a silver gun and points it at his head. His eyes blood red, fangs out, they both race for the kill. One pulls the trigger, the other starts to drink her dry. Their blood drips from their bodies, turning the white roses into the color red with their blood.
Ember wakes up in her bed with a start. Breathing hard, she began to recall the dream, playing it slowly in her mind. But there was no denying it, it was the same dream that kept on haunting her mind ever night for two years now. Ember had always wondered why it kept coming up in her dreams. But she had no answer to that, and there was no one with whom she could speak to. For one thing, she had never had a friend her entire life. And there was no use to discuss it with Ember’s older sister. She simply wouldn’t care, so you see there was really no one to talk to. Worried, but still exhausted, Ember yawned and went back to sleep. Waiting for that dreadful dream that she knew would come the moment that she dares to close her eyes.
Ember’s alarm clock went off, a loud beeping noise echoed off the walls in her room. She lazily turned it off, and looked at the time. Ember got up, and swore. She was going to be late again. Her sister was going to kill her, Ember rolled her eyes just thinking about it.

As Ember turned the corner she came face to face with her big sister. Ember’s sister was beautiful and perfect in every way that Ember herself lacked. Her big sister had long silver hair tied behind her back by a single red ribbon. Her eyes was the color of the most purest snow. The only thing her big sister didn’t have was happiness. Her face always looked like she was mad at something or someone. Ember had never seen her smile once. Even now she was giving Ember one of her famous glares just for being late. “You know I hate it when your late.” She said in that dead voice of hers. “Yes, Willow. I’m sorry it won’t happen again.” Ember said. “That’s what you always say, yet Lord behold here you are again, late. I don’t have time for this so let’s get down to business already. We are standing in front of a school where they are going to train you to become a vampire hunter. Just go inside, and get to class. And don’t do anything stupid that will make me look bad.” With that Willow walks off, leaving Ember alone.

Once inside Ember finds herself standing inside a dark hallway the door closed behind her. “Hello? Is anyone here?” Ember asked. But her words just echoed off of the walls. After a minute or two of uncertainty. Ember made up her mind and just started walking down the hallway. Unnoticed by Ember, there was a dark figure slowly walking up behind her. The figure grabbed Ember’s arm and turned her around so she could face the figure. Ember was startled at first, but then sheer determination took over. She grabbed the figure’s arm and twisted it painfully around the figure’s back. “Ah, I’m sorry okay. I didn’t mean to scare you sheesh!” The figure said. “Who are you?” Ember asked. “I’m just an innocent bystander who just happened to see you walking around. I thought that the nice thing to do would be to help you out. Satisfied? Now, can I have my arm back?” Ember let go, and he started to rub his arm, he grimaced when his fingers brushed on a tender spot. Now that Ember had calmed down, she turned around to look at him. He wasn’t much to look at really, he had dark chocolate hair that looked silky in the light. And dark brown eyes against his somewhat pale skin. “Now let’s see what do we have here?” A stranger’s voice spoke. Ember turned around, and saw a woman standing in front of them. She looked to be in her mid thirty’s with long brown hair, and forest green eyes behind black glasses. She was stunning, and as she walked toward them, her movements looked almost elegant. “Mortis, why aren’t you in class?” Mortis swore, and then ran off to go to his classroom. “I’m sorry about him, were still trying to teach him some manners. But don’t worry you won’t be seeing him anytime soon. Mortis is a failure around here.” She shook her head sadly at this. “Um, I’m Ember. Willow’s little sister-” But Ember was cut off in mid sentence by the mysterious yet elegant lady. “Yes, we were expecting you. We are so honored to be able to teach the world’s greatest vampire hunter younger sister. But unlike your sister, your late. Just go into that classroom over there. Oh I’m sorry. I don’t believe I told you my name. it’s Headmaster Desdemona.” and with that Desdemona turned and left with that elegant movement about her.

After taking a deep breath Ember knocked on her new classroom door. The door swung open to reveal a tall lean man with dark black hair, and night black eyes. Ember thought this odd, because only demons have black eyes. And as far as she knew, demons were not welcomed into Midnight. Midnight was the town that Ember grew up in. Years ago, there were some vampires and some humans who wanted peace between the two species. They founded the town and named it Midnight a name fitting for both the vampires and the humans. But the peace was short lived, not long after a vampire was seen sucking the blood of an innocent little girl by a human bystander. Soon after war broke out between them, the vampires would have won if not for the sun that came up into the sky. Sending many screaming for cover, or bursting in flames. The humans killed most of them, but left a few alive. For the sake of the so called peace that they all worked so hard to built. Thus Midnight was spilt in two sections, one where the vampires lived and the other was where the humans lived. The humans put a barrier that separated the two sections. The barrier was supposed to prevent the vampires from going into the human section. It had worked, till about two years ago where a vampire was seen killing off the humans. The watchers a group of powerful humans who advised the town in matters like these, decided that the best thing there was to do was to establish a school where they will train young humans into becoming vampire hunters. But no one still couldn’t figure out how the vampires were able to get out. As Ember was staring off into space the demon teacher cleared his throat, annoyed. “If you are quite done, doing what humans do best. Which is nothing, then I would like to say that my name is Draven. And welcome to my classroom little human girl.” Draven smiled at Ember, but it wasn’t kind or friendly. It was the kind of smile that said “You better watch your back, if you don’t want me to reach inside and pull out your guts.” Ember got a shiver rolling down her spine just thinking about it. But she swallowed the fear back down, and stepped inside his classroom.

After school, Ember was walking home lost in her thoughts. So she didn’t notice when Mortis came up beside her. “Hey, sleeping beauty are you done day dreaming yet?” Mortis asked. Ember instantly snapped out of it, and turned to glare at the strange boy. “Are you a stalker?! Where the heck did you come out from?! And why on earth did you just called me sleeping beauty?!” Ember stopped walking, waiting for Mortis to answer. “Okay, I’m a stalker I love following people around!” Mortis smiled, and when he saw Ember’s shocked face Mortis burst out laughing. “No, I’m not. I just saw you across the street that’s all I swear.” Mortis said. Ember sighed in relief and resumed walking. “So how was your first day in hell school.” “Hell school?” Ember asked. “Yeah, it’s sort of my nickname for that stupid school.” Mortis answered. “It was okay. Draven just talked about having to carry a knife around with us, or something. Really boring stuff. Hey, do you know why a demon like Draven is in our town to begin with?” Ember couldn’t help but ask. “Yeah, Midnight is thinking of taking in stray demons. Something to see if we can have peace with them. But really, if we couldn’t have peace with vampires, what makes them think we have a shot with demons? I really don’t get The Watchers sometimes, but like I said I really don’t care.” They both went walking in silence until they reached Mortis house. “Hey, I have an idea. Why don’t we go into the vampires section. I have been meaning to go, but I understand if you don’t want to, after all you are a girl.” Mortis couldn’t help but say. When he saw that Ember was getting ready to let him have it. He burst out laughing again. “Before you start yelling at me, I only want to say that I was only kidding. I always love to screw around with people. But no, on my serious side are you up for it?” Ember thought this over, on one hand her sister would kill her if she ever found out. But on the other hand, she had never had a friend before. And she didn’t want to lose the only friend she had, even if he was asking her to do something stupid and dangerous. “Sure, I’m up for it.” Ember smiled. “Alright Sleeping Beauty, we will meet at the barrier exactly at Midnight. Don’t be late.” With that Mortis started walking to his house and he stopped at the door. “By the way, the reason I call you Sleeping Beauty is because your smart, kind, and beautiful just like her.” Mortis smiled, before opening the door and going inside his house, closing the door behind him. Leaving a blushing Ember standing on the sidewalk.
