• Prologue:
Massive amounts of bodies swayed like vines in the wind. The master played with the sweet melodies making anyone who heard it want to stand and join the rest. I moved as the music pulsed within me, swaying me with the others. It was hot, very hot, and some of the humans couldn’t keep up with the monstrous tones. One by one they stopped dancing and went off to sit on the sides. And as they did, I noticed the club employees stop working, all except the D.J.
I caught sight of the bar-tender, a man about six feet high and a muscular body, as he walked away from the bar to the young human girl sitting on one of the sofas. He passed his hand through his hair and knelt down so he could speak to her face to face. As he spoke, I notice her expression go blank. I paid close attention at the hungry look on his face as he took her hand and led her away. Poor girl, I thought, she never saw it coming. I stopped dancing and walked away from the dance floor. Two more humans, I noticed, were gone from the bar. I almost pitied them for being so weak. I walked out of the club and down the road. As I walked, I passed a bench where the bar-tender was sitting with the girl on his lap. From far away it looked like he was kissing her neck, however I knew what he was doing and why she wasn’t moving. He was taking a sip of whine to quench his thirst for a while, just that this delectable whine happened to be running through the veins of a human being.
As I passed he looked up at me, from across the street, and smiled. His eyes glowed and his teeth were drenched in red substance. I couldn’t help but smile back. He bowed his head and returned to his meal. I continued walking, thinking that soon I would be hunting too, and the idea made my smile broaden.

    Chapter One:

I walked down the building hall to my apartment. I lived in a fairly new building, whose walls were caramel colored and floors were all white marble. Sometimes I’d think it was a luxury hotel just that you didn't have to pay hundreds everyday you stayed. I opened the oak wood door and walked into my apartment. Just as I stepped in, Louie came trotting along and rubbed himself around my ankles.
“Hey Louie” I said as I picked up the kitten and walked into the living room. My sister was spread on the couch, watching her soap operas. She turned to me when I had walked in. Here it comes, I thought. I watched her frown and her mouth turn into a scowl.
“Where the hell were you, Elvira?” she gritted between her teeth. I rolled my eyes.
“Out. Looking for a present for little Louie” I sighed. She scoffed at my response.
“You think I believe that? Its three in the morning, I haven’t seen you since yesterday morning.” I shrugged and told her, “and? You haven’t seen me because you're always over at your boyfriend’s.” Her eyes slit and she glared at me.
“Ever since the accident, you’ve been acting weird, out of control!” she yelled.
“Of course I have Catherine” I muttered sarcastically.
“You barely eat, you go out early and come back really late, you barely sleep…” she went on. Her rattling was annoying me, therefore I walked away into my room. I placed Louie on my bed, where he curled up in a little black ball. I sat next to him, stroking his back. My sister’s words rang through out my mind.
    **********************************************************************
I was in a car accident, a year ago. An accident that claimed my parent’s lives and should of have claimed mine as well. The car was hit by an oil truck, which threw it to a train track, where the car was hit by a train and thrown off into the river. I knew that no one could ever survive something like that, nevertheless come out perfectly fine. New reporters called it a miracle, my sister called it luck. All I remembered was sitting in the back, my father had the Bee gees playing on the radio, and my mom was doing her make up. I don’t remember seeing the oil truck that allegedly crashed into us. I do, however, remember feeling an incredibly immense pain. Like if I were being ripped apart, burned, impaled, crushed, drowning and suffocated all at once. When I awoke, a week later, I was in a small hospital in a town I’ve never been in, with Louie at my side. I had asked who he belong to and they told me they had found him cuddled at my side when they found me at the shore side.
I stayed at the hospital for a month, for my sister couldn’t be contacted. During my stay, I noticed that I was different. My hair was darker, my eye were lighter, I didn't have much of an appetite, barely slept and I was constantly thirsty. I felt stronger and smarter. I had told myself that it was probably the pills they were giving me. However, it was Louie who had led me to discover the truth one night.
I was sitting on the hospital bed staring at the wall, for I wasn’t sleepy. I remember Louie’s little paws bumping against the door and his soft meowing. I stood from my bed and opened the door, under the impression that he needed to get out to do his business. He walked out and started down the hall, and when he saw that I wasn’t following, he walked back and meowed at me. I followed Louie as he led me down the halls of the hospital to a door. He meowed and someone, a man, opened the door. His red hair was curly and short, and his spectacles were on his head. His pale skin was almost translucent and his green eyes seemed to have a glow. He smiled at me and let me in.
“I'm doctor Shawls, Ms. Blaque. I'm the one who’s been attending you” he told me as he shut the door. I watched as he walked over to his desk. It looked like he was gliding.
“You aren’t normal” I blurted out accidentally. I flushed in embarrassment. Dr. Shawls just smile and gave me a single nod.
“Neither are you” he said. He pointed to the bookcase across me. I looked at it then back at him with a raised eyebrow.
    “Lift it” he ordered.
“Are you crazy? It looks really heavy” I exclaimed. He folded his hands and told me, “It is heavy…for a human.” My confusion was driven even further.
“Lift it” he ordered again. I rolled my eyes and walked over to the bookcase. This is never going to work, I thought and I grabbed each side of it. To my surprise, I lifted it as if I were lifting a feather. I felt my jaw drop as I placed the bookcase down. I stared at it.
“See?” I looked back at Dr. Shawls. I couldn’t speak or think of what to say.
“You’re different just as I am. Our kind is the closes thing there is to gods. We are immortals, predators that look incredibly alluring to our prey.” His voice seemed deadly yet at the same time inviting. I swallowed hard and struggled to say, “What are we?” He smiled and I caught glimpse of his teeth. His canines were sharp and suddenly long.
    “Vampire” he whispered.
After that night, I had an appointment ever week, twice a week, for the past year. Dr. Shawls taught me everything I needed to know during those appointments. I learned how to control my strength and speed. He explained to me that soon I wouldn't be able to sleep at all, that my senses would sharpen, and that I may even have a “dark gift”, he also told me that we must keep our existence a secret and that I would stop aging at the age of twenty. When I asked why, he told me that when teenagers were turned, their bodies would “die” slowly and usually the heart would stop beating completely at the age of twenty. He said that our kind didn't know why, just that it happened.
I wasn’t allowed to hunt, not yet. He wanted to wait until I was older and more self controlled. For the moment, he had me on a special pill that the vampire community had created so that younglings (that’s what newborn vampires were called) wouldn't go out of control and go into blood rage. The pills didn't satiate my thirst but it kept me on check until Dr. Shawls gave me a raccoon or squirrel to feed on. That still didn't satisfy me, however it was better than the pill. I was told that under no circumstances was I to feed on a human, and to make sure I was to not breathe when I went out. It was uncomfortable at first but I got used to it.

Louie licked my face, pulling out of my trance. I giggle as he brushed his tail against my neck. I turned off my lamp and crawled into bed, not bothering to change. Louie crawled next to me, and in no time I drifted to sleep.
