“Kagome, are you sure you’re okay?” Sango watched Kagome helplessly knowing that Kagome was putting up a front to hide her sadness. Sango took a step closer to her, but stopped. Kagome just smiled.

“Of course, Sango. Inuyasha will be back soon, don’t you worry!” Kagome laughed, but it was forced. Even to her she could tell that tears were about to fall.

“But, Lady Kagome, Inuyasha went to go look for Ki-“ Miroku started to say, but stopped short at Kagome’s glare. Sango glared and hit him across the head. Again, he just always wanted to cross that bridge everyone avoided.

“He WILL come back,” Kagome stated in a cheerful voice with a smile through clenched teeth.

“Al-alright,” Miroku laughed awkwardly and turned away.

Kagome turned around, “I’m going on a walk guys.”

Sango watched her leave, her face dropped,” Be careful.”

Kagome didn’t turn around, but just nodded her reply. She began to walk as she watched the twinkling night sky above her.

“Pretty,” she said to herself as the cool, gentle breeze brushed her face. She approached the well and sat down, flinching from the cold wood. She sighed and looked down at her feet, her eyes full of sadness.

When was he going to return?

    Morning, maybe?

“Oh, why bother,” Kagome kicked at the ground, annoyed. Regardless, she would wait for him anyway.

He knew that she would wait for him.

She sighed again, this time, letting a few tears fall. Always, always, always!
Even though she was right here, always beside him, it was Kikyo. Always Kikyo. Why did he chase after someone who wasn’t in his reach? Fool.

Yet she was a fool too because she knew she couldn’t reach him either.

    But she loved Inuyasha.

That was enough to make her stay, even if one day he did leave her behind.

But she would wait for him…just like always.

Kagome rested her head in her lap while her forearms supported her forehead. She stared mindlessly at the grass underneath her. She felt more tears well up and fought them back with a laugh. Even so, the tears fell harder and she couldn’t laugh anymore at the pain. How could a breaking heart be something to laugh at, especially when it’s yours?

“Damn it, Inuyasha!” she cried out in a desperate voice that shook with tears,” I hate you!”

She whispered to herself as she choked on tears,” I hate you..you so mu-much that I-I care for y-you…!Unnn..!!”

Always, she had promised herself, that she would be by his side and love him.

    But, always isn’t forever.

So why was he taking her for granted?

Finally, her crying stopped and she calmed down. She wiped her face dry and sighed, feeling more annoyed with herself. Why did she keep doing this to herself?

    “Kagome, whatcha doing?”

Kagome shrieked in surprised and whipped around.

    Inuyasha.

Anger rose in her at his carefree attitude. She had been waiting for him for hours and this is how he treated her?! She turned away because she felt tears well up again, but this time from relief. Even though he found Kikyo he still came back. How could she be angry at him?

“Inuyasha, where were you?” Kagome asked in a stern yet uncaring tone.

“Uh,” he looked away,” I went to the river.”

“Really, now?” Kagome turned around on the well and faced him, her glare making him feel uneasy.

    “Y-yeah.”

    “Kikyo was there, wasn’t she?”

“Y-no,” He glared right back at her, arms crossed.

“I see,” she turned her back to him again, looking up at the night sky.

Always, she would wait for him.

Always, he came back for her.

How silly of her to think that he didn’t care about her. Maybe, she just felt lonely that even though he did love her in a way, his love for Kikyo was stronger. It was very painful to admit that, but she was grateful still.

At least he would come back, even if it was a long time.

    She sighed, that’s right.

    Always isn’t forever.

She wouldn’t always be by his side and who knows what could happen to him.

How could she have been so selfish?

Why had she taken this time beside him for granted?

Kagome suddenly stood and turned to him, her face serious. How badly she wanted to hold him right now. She could tell she had given off that feeling because she saw his face redden slightly and he uncrossed his arms.

In embarrassment he looked away, “Wh-what’s with the sudden mood change, Kagome?”

She smiled. She really was a fool,” Oh, nothing.”

“What?” he glared at her,” What are you smiling about?”

She giggled,” Koga! He came to see me.”

She saw him twitch and his annoyed tone gave away his jealousy,” I told you to stay away from him, Kagome!”

“Oh, really now,” she smirked,” Well, if you hadn’t been down at the river then maybe he wouldn’t have come to see me. After all, he carried me here because I was tired from walking so much looking for you.”

Sorry, Koga, she mentally stated. Of course it was a lie, and it was a bit immature, but she wanted a little payback for having him making her wait so long.

Inuyasha became serious and his face fell a little in regret,” Sorry, Kagome.”

Immediately, Kagome felt regret. She didn’t want to see that face.

    “Sit boy.”

His face turned into a surprised one as he hit the ground and Kagome laughed.

“Kagome!” Inuyasha yelled up at her with an angry face. He quickly got up and began to dust off the dirt, annoyed.

“Come on, let’s go back. The others are waiting,” her cheerful tone was back as she turned to begin to walk. Inuyasha walked past her briskly and she was about to complain when he suddenly stopped in front of her and bent down to the ground.

“What are you doing, Inuyasha?” she was confused at his behavior.

“Are you getting on or not?” he asked in an irritated tone.

She stood stunned and slightly blushed, but she was happy. She had only joked, but he didn’t take it as one. She suddenly laughed.

He turned around and glared up at her, but his face was red,” Are you getting on or not?!”

“Okay, okay!” she hopped on and wrapped her arms around his neck. She could tell he was embarrassed and that made her happy. Her heart felt very warm.

As they walked on his tone became serious,” Kagome?”

“Y-yeah?” he had never acted this way before and it surprised her.

    “Have you gained weight?”

Her face went blank and then turned to anger as she hit him on the back of the head, jumping off.

“Ow! What was that for, Kago-?!”

    “SIT BOY!”

He hit the ground hard and she walked past him in a huff.

“K-Kagome!” he cried out in pain.

A love isn’t always for forever, but forever there would always be love.
